I would like to say thank you to ‘’Journalist Training Program’’ for bridge me to get chance for learning more about journalistic program also knowing about The President Post closely until my Internship letter get acceptance by Head of The President Post, Mr. Rachmat Wirasena thankyou for your opportunity to me to learning a lot of knowledge in mass media division by The President Post brand-mark. Mr.Reza, Mr.

Anton, Mumut, and Mr.Irawan Thank you for the kindness, Togetherness, Best Teamwork ever and all of nice memories with precious experience.

Thankyou fot ICC President University for facilitate me also sending me a lot off Information Internship vacancies , take-cares and handling me during my Internship program.

CHAPTER I – Introduction

I.1. Introduction

Internships are planned and closely supervised “hands-on” work-related learning experiences providing the students with a chance to gain important knowledge and skills in a career-related that may or may not be directly related to their academic coursework. An internship provides exposure to career fields of businesses and interests.

By putting the internship as the compulsory subject of the university, President University recognizes the importance of experiential learning opportunities for both the educational advancement of students and the growth of host employers‟ businesses and organizations.

I.2. Objectives

The overall goal of internship is to provide the means for each student to mature both personally and professionally, as well as to further their appreciation and understanding of the professional experience in their chosen field of study. Because of the commitment to this vision, the internship program was established with the following specific operating goals, which each student, can have the opportunity to:

I.2.1. Understand, observe, and apply the application of certain knowledge or working theory philosophies learned through previous academic and other experiences, in an appropriate work and professional settings;

I.2.2. Develop their abilities to achieve performance goals based on the responsibilities and duties.

I.2.3. Develop their ability to asses and direct achievement of specified performance goals.

I.2.4. Obtain a bird‟s eye view of how an institution is running and as a medium for the students to have direct interaction with and to learn from industry professionals.

I.2.5. Enrich their understanding about how an institution is forming the teamwork, making it effective, and united albeit the diversity, variety of social background, and culture.

I.2.6. Develop decision-making and problem-solving skills through the formulation, implementation and evaluation of alternative solutions to problems and approaches to issues.

I.2.7. Gain an understanding of the overall institution/organizational structure and their management philosophy (or corporate culture) and clientele base, as well as their relative position to other local, national and /or global competition in the market place.

I.2.8. Identify and address personal strengths and weaknesses in light of demands and expectations of employment in the various roles and responsibilities assigned in a work setting.

I.2.9. Develop a network of industry professionals that can be used when seeking full-time employment.

I.2.10. Share their internship experience and special project with other PU interns, faculty and staff.

In addition, the university recognizes the benefits of an academically sound internship program, which includes the provision and utilization of feedback from the employer and the student in the continuing evaluation of the university curriculum (i.e. the need for new courses and adjustment of existing courses), and the potential of promoting all programs/majors to prospective employers.

I.3. Benefits

Companies gain advantages and benefits from having a successful internship program. For the participating company, an internship program can:

I.3.1. Allow the company to better serve its customers through the contributions of an intern. Interns can serve as short-term solution to handle increased workloads and complete needed projects, while at the same time providing the intern with a valuable work experience;

I.3.2. Stimulate and promote a learning experience among professional staff. Company employees can learn much from interns who bring a different set of skills, knowledge base, and perspective to the job;

I.3.3. Provide company personnel with the opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of their in house training programs or other services based on feedback from interns;

I.3.4. Afford an opportunity to screen for prospective employees, and expand the manpower pipeline/new potential rec ruit database . Interns become familiar with an organization‟s culture and work, and establish close working relationships with current employees. This makes them ideal candidates for job vacancies.

Even if an intern does not end up being employed at their internship placement site, internship program may serve as a good recruitment tool for a company to observe potential workers under actual working conditions without a long term commitment;

I.3.5. Allow the company to contribute to the professional development of future professionals through partnership with President University.

CHAPTER II - Company Profile

II.1 History Of The Organization

The President Post is a business - focused, english - language international daily newspaper based in Jakarta City. The President Post will be published five days a week by PT. Media Prima Nusa, an independent company supported by PT. Jababeka Tbk., along with its World Weekly editions that will be published every Saturday.

II.2 Vision, Mission, and Objective

The President Post Vision To become the best & largest Indonesia’s English Newspaper in the world which are trusted and responsible. Also included several mission ;

• To provide information that can encourage and inspire the people to develop the country.

• To become Indonesia’s Economic & Business Investment English Media Reference. • To become the reference for sustainable tourism & society.

The President Post Objective is to be the spirit of Indonesia under media tools.

II.3Organization Chart

II.4Core organization activities

The President Post Present to support Jababeka & CO. In terms of Media, both Print and Online. As a balanced form of media, The President Post also covered all government-related incidents such as covering the press conference of Indonesian cooperation with other countries. The president's focus is on weighting news focused on the rubric of Business, Ministry, Tourism, Education, International, National, Highlight, Lifestyle, Event, Sports, Opinion. Collaborating with Media Partners with Exhibitors who are interested in advertising their Event on The President Post Website.

II.5Product and services

Products offered by The President Post are subscription to newspapers that are published every month or online news that can be accessed for free. As well as Advertising Services, both through Media Partners and independently which can be displayed in web banners or printed newspapers.

Conduct coverage based on a press invitation which is generally in the framework of an event press conference all of this can be adjusted to the needs of clients that are in line with the Journalistic background.

CHAPTER III - Internship Activities

During Internship period I working start from 8 am to 16 pm, I often extend my work hour. in order to finish the job. I don’t want to leave the job on my desk, because I’m not the person who let the job finish next day. That’s why if I can finish it today, then I will get the jobs done.

The following are my details on internship activities at The President Post:

1. I make an video purpose to promote President Senior High School similar with official marketing from SMAP but we stands behind The President Post Flag, this content will spread up by social media like Youtube, Instagram and so on. This jobs its very exciting for me, when tapping video I very nervous sometimes I forgot about text I would like to saying. We make video without prompt text, I need read thousand times also make my tempo so natural. This jobdesk challenging me a lot. Sometimes I made mistake and we retake tapping video, we tapping a lot of scene, to make it easier when we want to editing this video.

2. I also managing Facebook Fan-page named ‘’Beasiswa di Kerawang’’ as admin, upload content inside this fan-page such as Article or wise word correlation with the connection between parents and kid also another psychology article for teenager. Our fan-page focusing parents as target readers. I already publish around 100 hundreds article.

Im happy to do this job, its easy and improving my knowledge alot. I should sort an article that fulfil our standart of information. So many data, so many explanation I get. This job not only helpful for my internship also helpful for my entire life because this article or information its related with our life.

3. I writing an Article to be publish in the President Post . I wrote in health/Lifestyle ,in this case I need so many correction the way to write an article.This so challenging when we elaborated data, idea, fact in a text sometimes make me confusing. Its take longer time to finish this part. After I finish write an article consist of two pages, I need make it tight to be half pages its same as for two part of publication.

4. I doing transcript voice recorder from the interview by journalist source to be text, our interviewer usually foreigner. This job also improving my skills and listening. Its so much fun, when I didn’t know what he saying about, I will open dictionary and looking another probability word he says, or when he saying about some place in India for example, I try to looking information about place he meant.

Sometimes interviewer didn’t speak clearly, or maybe different dialect so I should listening and replays hundreds times.

5. I offering a Media Partner Cooperation with the big exhibitor. Our company focusing on event about industrial and Business and Property. My approach of this task by finding a lot of information about huge event organizers by internet and I pick company contact and I send them a letter for Media Partner Cooperation. Our communication will connected when our vision match. I already make an MOU with PT. Debindo International Trade and Exhibition Indoconstech Event.

CHAPTER IV

I V. Personal Result / Evaluation / Points Learned

IV.1 Was the Internship Worthwhile?

Internship is so workwhile to me, in this place I doing internship with different fields from my working place before. The President Post flag give me precious experience in Journalist fields from several project I have done I learn for confident in public speaking the way I delivery information on video we have made. I improving my dialect and prounounciation listening by doing transkript voice recorder to be text. I learn how to writting article with simple way and attrack readers to read all paragraph till the end. Actually my fields before I doing internship is in Marketing and Advertising division. In Media Partner Cooperation I have new experience, usually Company or Event Organizer will inviting mass media and press to do press release or doing some Media Cooperation from them. But in The President Post I learn something unique and different. We as media offering media partner cooperation to organizer.

IV.2 Did internship help gain better understanding about the theory and how it can be implemented?

Approaching by Liberalism theory its ideal implemented in my workplace. The President Post is global media who prefer to do cooperation and team work to keep a peace also as simbiosis mutualism to achieve our company and personal goal in any perspective. We bealive cooperation will harmony the peace.

Tofetherness help us to be efective to achieve anything. It can be implemented by culture and work ethic based on company standard.

IV.3 Did the Internship Help Gain Better Comprehension About The Industry?

My internship experience at The Pesident Post developed my knowledge of the mass media industry in perspective as a journalist and marketing. The information obtained by journalists needs to be re-sorted and adjusted to the journalistic ethics code. In terms of Marketing, which is part of the Media Partnership Cooperation, I began to understand that journalists or mass media companies need information material to be reported, so mutual symbiosis between press and organizers is established and companies that overshadow a particular brand are published by the mass media itself. Entry for Mass Media companies can come from advertisements that are displayed on online and print media pages. Every day there is a lot of news material that needs to be covered both for the Lifestyle, Business, Economy, Sports, etc.

IV.4 What Technical Knowledge, New Theory/ Approach?Method or Skills was Absorbed during the Internship?

The Altruistic approach I use in conducting internships, in the Indonesian National Encyclopedia altruistic refers to the behavior of individuals who prioritize the interests of others above their own interests, help others without any direct benefit for the helper. Because those who benefit are those who give help, these individuals who do altruistic will exclude their interests above the interests of others, especially in an emergency.

Because at the internship I did not expect a reward from what I did during the internship, new knowledge and experience that was different from my expertise in the new work environment for internship purposes was indeed very much needed.

New technical knowledge or skills that are absorbed during the internship are, to learn to write with the right rules, and train themselves to speak in front of the camera without prompt text and rely on memory or memorization.

IV.5 Was The Internship Helpful For The Students To Learn Better About The Personal Strength and Weakness and How it Can Affect The Personal Development of The Students?

Internships are activities that are useful for students who do not have experience in work, in general, someone who does not have experience will tend to feel insecure because they do not have a picture of what will be faced. So that the lack of preparation prepared by prospective workers will hinder its productivity in a career. With the internship activities held by the university in order to prepare prospective graduates to face the world of work and feel confident because they know what their weaknesses, strengths, talents, talents, real interests are that will support them in carrying out their work. This will help influence the development of students to be more adaptable and face new challenges they will face when working later.

Such as managing tempre, ego, emotions, patience, tolerance for colleagues, or team work later. It is expected that students can develop inline to follow and influence each other in developments in the work environment to get maximum achievement because they have the skills needed by the company in general such as; creative, imaginative, innovative, independent and visionary.

IV.6 How Did Internship Benefits The Students Personal Growth?

The internship process is the same as the type of learning process in general. For several months students will be educated and emphasized on the standard basis of a company for its employees. In a long period of time during the internship period students will adjust to the work environment situation. Discipline, Tolerance, Responsibility, and other important values students will apply directly. Slowly but surely students will learn to adjust to a more serious and tight environment in the world of work. This is where the essence of the internship will later affect student development during the internship process. Students will begin to understand the type of work that is likely to be in accordance with the capabilities needed by the company.

IV.7 How Did Internship Affect The Students Future Career Plan?

After students undergo an internship program and see the world situation working, then new thoughts will emerge, new interest in the work experience that has just been undertaken. This condition will make it easier for students to determine what type of work is suitable for their interests and talents. In my opinion, there are people who are suitable to work in an office with a fashionable outfit setting for 8 hours working behind the desk doing work that might have a target system that must be achieved, hours of entry that are on time or even given a discount if it's late absent even if it's only seconds, or erratic overtime. Or the type of

manual work such as outdoor, with more flexible time attendance but employees are required to be strong, excited, or various types of work but not just stop behind the desk. Mobile work system. All work conditions, work environment, job desk, working time will be very diverse. By being aware of this condition it is expected that students will be more selective and easy in determining future career plans and encourage students to continue to develop their potential so that their skills can facilitate students in carrying out their work.

CHAPTER V

V. Recommendation

Basically everything I have done has been facilitated by the ICC starting from job opening information, to getting other information related to the internship program that I was running at that time. My advice to President University in order to improve the quality of this internship program is to hold a short training to support students while doing an internship in the company which is expected to be a stepping stone to work when they graduate later. The training that I mean such as Public Speaking training, Body Gesture when talking with leaders and friends. However, what is done by students when the internship will be the face of the university, with the improvement in the quality of student internships prepared by the campus will add to the good image of President University in the eyes of companies that employ apprentice students. I think the relationship of communication in the world of work has a different ethic in any formal situation. Good communication will make it easier for students to work, and all internships will be more effective. The current condition is quite good, but I think only two things are my suggestions for developing future President University graduates. Because other essences will follow as the internship period progresses. If the basic foundation of personal abilities and skills is strong then the next step will be easier.
