Hackney said, "It is essential that there be a broad perspective in seeking suitable candidates for this important post and that every effort be made to identify the most qualified individual possible to lead our medical school programs in the years to come."

Dr. Hackney invites all interested individuals to submit, by memo, names of prospective candidates either directly to him or to any member of the search and screen committee. The appointed members of the committee are:

CANCER SYMPOSIUM CONVENES

A national conference on the cancers of childhood will be held in Indianapolis this week under the sponsorship of the Indiana University School of Medicine and the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital fo~ Children.

DR. McBURNEY APPOINTED

'\.,1be Office of Sponsored Programs announced the appointment of Dr. Wendell F.

\/'"M'CBurney as assistant dean, Dr. McBurney's responsibilities will include working

with the non-health area faculties to develop funding for individual and multi- disciplinary research, education and service programs. He also will serve as academic analyst with ICFAR where he will be involved in an evaluation of industrial needs for education programs in Indianapolis.

Before joining the IUPUI faculty, Dr. McBurney was co-ordinator for school science at IUB. His experience in that position has included the development and

administration of various programs in science education.
