The faculty members of the Department have been engaged in various activities for the development of the University. There are 25 cells in the department which have been started with a focus for the overall development of the students of the department. Some of them viz., NET Coaching Cell, Mock Interview Cell, Entrepreneurship Information Cell, Departmental Quality
Assurance Cell, Students’ Co-curricular Activities Cell, Commerce Education Popularizations Cell among others. The department has also started PhD programme from the session 2009- 2010.

The Department has M.Phil & Ph.D programmes with course work facilities, and thirteen candidates have been admitted in January 2014 who would seat for the IPP course work examination in the month of May , 2014 . Meanwhile, faculty members of the Department have attended several International and National Seminars & Conferences with Papers and as Resource persons , Chair persons and Plenary speakers as well. They have also published research papers in journals of National and International repute and some of their books have been accepted for publication by National and International Publishers. Whereas two of them have got Research Projects, one has been awarded Ph.D degree on 11th of March , 2014 . At present, the Department has four Ph.D degree holders and three Ph.D Supervisors , who are actively engaged in guiding research scholars. Significantly, some of the students of the Department have been placed in government jobs, whereas some of them have been invited to present papers in International Seminars to be held in foreign countries. Some Research Scholars of the Department have also published Papers in National & International Journals . The Professor of the Department has been invited as Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence at Central Arizona College, USA from August 3rd2013 to May 25,2014.The Department is fully geared up to organize a National Conference on The Voice of the Subaltern : A Northeast Perspective during 15th & 16thof May, 2014 and has proposal for an International Conference to be held in the latter half of 2014 . Further , the Department has started coaching program for NET/SLET candidates . It is a matter of glory and pride for the Department that Miss Gargee Sharma has bagged 1stclass (2ndin the University) in the final P.G. results , 2013.

Department have M.Phil. & Ph.D programmes. Now the department is taking care of University and School level papers for IPP examinations. There are quite good number of scholars who are working on different theme of research. Keeping in consideration the tribal and north east region, the department encourages the scholars to work on various relevant areas of research related to tribes and their social, culture, economic, ethnographical and environmental studies. Department organize seminars/conferences and workshops on various theme of studies time to time. The department has been quite vibrating since its establishment in 2007. The department also is trying to guide the students for their future career. Although the career and counseling cell has not developed well at the university level but at the department level we give information related to different academic competitions and scope and importance of various options likes archaeology, teaching, media, journalism, fashion technology, food and crafts etc. Now a days it is a great challenge for us to keep pace with fast moving world to give all relevant information to the students and develop and train them is such a way that they could keep up to date themselves and compete the competitive world.
