MORNING Time of Issue: 0750 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

♦ A cyclonic circulation lies over East Uttar Pradesh & adjoining Bihar in lower levels and a trough runs from this cyclonic circulation to east Vidarbha across East Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh at 0.9 km above mean sea level. This trough is likely to shift southwestwards during next 3-4 days. This system supported by moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal in lower tropospheric levels is very likely to cause:

i) Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over Odisha, West Bengal &

Sikkim and Jharkhand during next 3-4 days. Isolated thundersquall (50-60 kmph) with hail very likely over Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during 09th-11th April.

ii) Isolated rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during next 5 days with maximum activity over Maharashtra on 11th & 12th April. Isolated hailstorm very likely over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on 10th & 11th April.

♦ Under the influence of lower level wind convergence over Arunachal Pradesh & neighbourhood:

i) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds (30-40 kmph) very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 09th-12th April.Thundersquall activity very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 09th April.

ii) Isolated heavy rainfall also very likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 09th & 10th April.

♦ Two fresh Western Disturbances are likely to affect Western Himalayan Region one from the night of 10th April and another from the night of 12th April. Under their influence, isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall with thunderstorm & lightning likely over Western Himalayan Region during 11th- 14th April, 2021.

Main Weather Observations

Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Odisha.

Rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday) (1 cm or more): Keongjhargarh-1.

Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Tripura and North Interior Karnataka.

♦ Maximum Temperature Departures as on 08-04-2021: Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jharkhand; at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh; at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Vidarbha and Saurashtra & Kutch; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Uttarakhand; at many places over East Uttar Pradesh and West Madhya Pradesh; at a few places over West Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat Region and Coastal Karnataka; at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Konkan & Goa and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over North Interior Karnataka; at a few places over Marathwada and Lakshadweep;

at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 43.4°C was reported at Chandrapur (Vidarbha) over the country.

♦ Minimum Temperature Departures as on 08-04-2021: Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jharkhand and Marathwada; at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Karnataka; at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal &

Sikkim; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Chhattisgarh; at many places over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and North Interior Karnataka; at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya and Saurashtra & Kutch; at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa and Kerala & Mahe. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Lakshadweep; at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and near normal over rest parts of the country.

Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 12.8°C was reported at Amritsar (Punjab) over the plains of the country.

♦ The Western Disturbance as a trough in upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level roughly along longitude 74°E to the north of latitude 32°N persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh & adjoining Bihar extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough from the above cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh & adjoining Bihar to east Vidarbha across East Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ Two fresh Western Disturbances are very likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from the night of 10th & 12th April, 2021.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 14th April, 2021

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ Fall in maximum temperatures by by 2-4°C over most parts of Central India and Maharashtra during next 4-5 days.

♦ No significant change in maximum temperatures over rest parts of the country during next 4-5 days.

♦ Under the influence of Western Disturbance rainfall/snowfall at isolated to scattered places with thunderstorm & lightning likely to continue over Western Himalayan Region the period.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

♦ A Low pressure area lay over central parts of Andaman Sea in the beginning of the week; it has become a Well Marked Low pressure area over the same region in the afternoon of 1st April; it has intensified into a Depression over north Andaman Sea in the early morning hours of 2nd; remaining practically stationary it lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of 2nd April, 2021 near latitude 11.0°N and longitude 96.3°E, about 400 km east-northeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands);moving north- northeastwards, it lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of 3rd April, 2021 over north Andaman Sea off south Myanmar coast, about 550 km east-northeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands); moving north- northeastwards further, it weakened into a Well Marked Low pressure area in the forenoon and further into a Low pressure area in the evening of 3rd April, 2021 over north Andaman Sea off south Myanmar coast; it persisted over the same region before getting less marked in the evening of 4th; its remnant cyclonic circulation lay over the same region till 6th and has become less marked on 7th April 2021; this system has caused fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity along with isolated heavy rainfall on a single day over Andaman & Nicobar islands in the first half of the week and its remnants has caused isolated rainfall/thunderstorm activity over the same area during the remaining parts of the week.

♦ Remnants of Western Disturbances, troughs in low level westerlies /cyclonic circulations in the lower tropospheric levels supported by strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal have caused scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Northeast and adjoining areas of East India in the beginning of the week along with isolated very intense rainfall activity over the area during the same period.

♦ Troughs/wind discontinuities and cyclonic circulations in the lower tropospheric levels have caused isolated rainfall/thunderstorm activity over parts of South Peninsula India and adjoining areas of Konkan & Goa and Chattisgarh during the week; it has caused isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstom activity over Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep in the beginning of the week along with isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala & Mahe on one day during the same period.

♦ Movement of Western Disturbances have caused isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall/thunderstorm activity over Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh in the beginning of the week;

Passage of an intense western disturbance along with its induced cyclonic circulation has caused fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/snowfall/thunderstorm activity over Western Himalayan Region and isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm activity over adjoining plains of northwest India towards the end of the week; isolated heavy rainfall had been reported from Himachal Pradesh and Isolated hailstorm activity had been reported from Jammu Kashmir & Ladakh on one day each during the same period.

♦ Along with severe thunderstorm activity, isolated hailstorms had been reported from Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on two days each and from Assam & Meghalaya on one day during the week.

♦ Dust raising winds had been reported from parts of Rajasthan on a few days during the week.

Heavy Rain:

♦ Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred over Assam

& Meghalaya on one day during the week.

♦ Heavy to very heavy rainfall had occurred at isolated places over Sub Himalayan West Bengal &

Sikkim on one day during the week.

♦ Heavy rainfall had occurred at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Assam

& Meghalaya, Kerala & Mahe, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Himachal Pradesh on one day each during the week.

Temperature Scenario:

Heat wave to severe heatwave conditions had occurred at many places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and at isolated places over northern parts of Tamil Nadu on one day each during the week.

Heatwave conditions had occurred at a few places over East Rajasthan on two days and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal and West Rajasthan on one day each during the week; at isolated places over West Rajasthan, northern parts of West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha on two days each and over Gangetic West Bengal, Telengana, Rayalaseema, southern parts of Uttar Pradesh and northern part of East Madhya Pradesh on one day each during the week.

♦ The highest maximum temperature of 44.0oC had been recorded at Banda (East Uttar Pradesh) on 6th April 2021 and the lowest minimum temperature of 4.8oC had been recorded at Pantnagar (Uttarakhand) on 3rd April 2021 over the plains of the country during the week.

METEOROLOGICALANALYSIS

Last week’s Low pressure area over south Andaman Sea and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards and lay centered over Central parts of Andaman Sea in the forenoon of 1st April, 2021;it lay as a Well Marked Low pressure area over the same region in the afternoon of the same day; it has intensified into a Depression over north Andaman Sea in the early morning hours of 2nd and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of that day near latitude 11.0°N and longitude 96.3°E, about 400 km east-northeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 420 km north-northwest of Phuket (Thailand) and 640 km south of Yangon (Myanmar); it remained practically stationary and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of 2nd April, 2021 near latitude 11.0°N and longitude 96.3°E, about 400 km east-northeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 420 km north-northwest of Phuket (Thailand) and 640 km south of Yangon (Myanmar); it moved north-northeastwards and lay centred at 1730 hrs IST of 2nd April, 2021 near latitude 11.8°N and longitude 96.8°E, about 450 km east-northeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands), 470 km north-northwest of Phuket (Thailand) and 550 km south- southeast of Yangon (Myanmar);it moved north-northeastwards further and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of 3rd April, 2021 over north Andaman Sea off south Myanmar coast near latitude 13.2°N and longitude 97.6°E, about 550 km east-northeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands) and 420 km south- southeast of Yangon (Myanmar); moving north-northeastwards further, it weakened into a Well Marked Low pressure area over north Andaman Sea and adjoining south Myanmar coast in the forenoon and further into a Low pressure area over the same region in the evening of 3rd April, 2021 with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto midtropospheric levels; the Low Pressure Area over north Andaman Sea and adjoining south Myanmar coast persisted however, the associated cyclonic circulation extended upto 4.5 km above mean sea level in the morning of 4th;the low pressure area has become less marked in the evening of the same day however the associated cyclonic circulation lay over the same region and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level ;it persisted over the same region extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 5th;it continued to persist over the same region and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 6th; it has become less marked on 7th April 2021.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea & adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked in the early morning hours of 1st April 2021.

♦ Last week’s Western Disturbance as a trough ran roughly along Long. 84°E to the north of Lat.

25°N between 3.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 1st April 2021; it ran roughly along Long. 87°E to the north of Lat. 25°N between 3.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 2nd; it has become less marked on 3rd April 2021.

♦ Last week’s north-south trough from North Interior Karnataka to south Kerala ran from North Interior Karnataka to south Tamilnadu and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 1st April 2021; it has become less marked on 2nd April 2021.

♦ Last week’s east-west trough at mean sea level from East Uttar Pradesh to west Assam ran from East Uttar Pradesh to Mizoram on 1st April 2021; it has become less marked on 2nd April 2021.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 1st April 2021.

♦ Last week’s north-south trough from Jharkhand to north Coastal Andhra Pradesh extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 1st April 2021.

♦ Last week’s trough roughly along Long. 88°E to the north of Lat. 23°N at 2.1 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 1st April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Sri Lanka and adjoining Comorin area between 1.5 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 1st April 2021; it has become less marked on 2nd April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over south Assam & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 1st April 2021; it has become less marked on 2nd April 2021.

♦ A trough ran from Odisha to North Interior Karnataka with an embedded cyclonic circulation over south Odisha & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 2nd April 2021;

the trough has become less marked;however, the cyclonic circulation over south Odisha &

neighbourhood embedded in that trough lay over south Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 3rd;it persisted over the same region and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 4th; it has become less marked on 5th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over West Rajasthan & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 2nd April 2021; it lay over southeast Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 3rd; it has become less marked on 4th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over south Maharashtra coast & neighbourhood and extended between 2.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 3rd April 2021; it has become less marked on 4th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Andhra Pradesh coast & neighbourhood at 2.1 km above mean sea level on 3rd April 2021; it has become less marked on 4th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Sri Lanka & neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 3rd April 2021; it has become less marked on 4th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Jharkhand & adjoining Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 3rd April 2021 and its persisted over the same region at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 4th; it has become less marked on 5th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over southwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 4th April 2021; it lay over northwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 5th; it lay as an induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab & neighbourhood and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 6th; it lay over West Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 7th April 2021.

♦ A trough between 5.8 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level ran roughly along longitude 86°E to the north of latitude 22°N on 4th April 2021;it ran roughly along longitude 89°E to the north of latitude 22°N on 5th; it has moved away eastwards on 6th April 2021.

♦ A Western Disturbance as a trough between 3.1 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level ran roughly along longitude 55°E to the north of latitude 32°N on 4th April 2021;it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & adjoining Jammu & Kashmir between 3.1 & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 5th; it has moved away northeastwards on 6th March 2021.

♦ A north-south trough at 0.9 km above mean sea level ran from North Interior Karnataka to interior Tamil Nadu on 4th April 2021;it ran from Telangana to the cyclonic circulation over north Tamilnadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 5th;it has become less marked on 6th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over north Tamilnadu & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 5th April 2021;it has become less marked on 6th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Bangladesh and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 5th April 2021; it has become less marked on 6th April 2021.

♦ A Western Disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level ran roughly along longitude 65°E to the north of latitude 22°N on 6th April 2021; it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric levels with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along longitude 72°E to the north of latitude 32°N on 7th April 2021.

♦ A trough in westerlies ran roughly along longitude 85°E to the north of latitude 25°N at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 6th April 2021; it has become less marked on 7th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Comorin Area & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above

mean sea level on 6th April 2021; it persisted over the same region extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 7th April 2021.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over Comorin area & neighbourhood to Marathwada across Interior Tamilnadu & Interior Karnataka and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 6th April 2021; it ran from the cyclonic circulation over Comorin area & neighbourhood to North Interior Karnataka and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 7th April 2021.

♦ A trough in westerlies ran roughly along longitude 85°E to the north of latitude 22°N at 2.1 km above mean sea level on 7th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over south Andaman Sea and adjoining north Sumatra coast and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 7th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Jharkhand & adjoining North Chhattisgarh between 0.9 &1.5 km above mean sea level on 7th April 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over southwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 7th April 2021.
