Friday 09 October 2020 MORNING Time of Issue: 0800 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

♦ The withdrawal line of the Southwest Monsoon continues to pass through Lat. 28°N/ Long.83°E, Faizabad, Fatehpur, Nowgong, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Porbandar, Lat. 21°N/ Long.65°E and Lat. 21°N/ Long.60°E.

♦ A low pressure area has formed over north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood and associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression over central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh & adjoining south Odisha coast as a depression around 11th October afternoon/evening. Under its influence:

i) Light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 9th October and heavy rainfall from 10th to 12th October.

ii) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy fall on 10th October and very heavy falls on 11th October very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh; with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over Odisha on 11th & 12th October.

iii) Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy fall would occur over Telangana, Rayalaseema and North Interior Karnataka on 10th-11th October.

iv) Squally winds (speed reaching 45-55 kmph) would occur over Central Bay of Bengal & north Andaman Sea from 10th to 11th October.

v) Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 Kmph would occur over westcentral & adjoining north Bay of Bengal and along & off Andhra Pradesh & Odisha coast commencing from 10th October night for subsequent 36 hours.

vi) Sea condition will be rough to very rough over north Andaman Sea, eastcentral & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on 9th & 10th October; westcentral Bay of Bengal on 10th & 11th October; adjoining north Bay of Bengal and along & off Andhra Pradesh & Odisha coast on 11th October. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.

♦ Moderate thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Vdarbha next 12 hours.

♦ Dry weather very likely over most parts of northwest India during next 5 days.

Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at many places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at a few places over Chhattisgarh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep.

Rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday) (1 cm or more): Long Island-11; Port Blair-4; Mandla-3; Machilipatnam-2;

Vijaywada-1.

Yesterday, heavy rainfall at isolated places observed over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

♦ Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Kerala & Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Maximum Temperature Departures as on 08-10-2020: Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad; at a few places over Uttarakhand; at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Punjab, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram &

Tripura and South Interior Karnataka; at many places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal; at isolated places over Gujarat State, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Kerala & Mahe and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at isolated places over Telangana; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Vidarbha; at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and near normal over rest parts of the country. The highest maximum temperature of 39.7°C was reported at Churu (West Rajasthan).

Minimum Temperature Departures as on 08-10-2020: Minimum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Jharkhand at a few places over Bihar; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Assam & Meghalaya, Odisha, Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka; at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Madhya Maharashtra, Lakshadweep, Kerala & Mahe and Andaman, Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over Punjab, East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They are below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and at weisolated places over West Uttar Pradesh and near normal over rest parts of the country. The lowest minimum temperature of 17.7°C was reported at Bhilwara (East Rajasthan) over the plains of the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)

♦ The withdrawal line of the Southwest Monsoon continues to pass through Lat. 28°N/ Long.83°E, Faizabad, Fatehpur, Nowgong, Rajgarh, Ratlam, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Porbandar, Lat. 21°N/ Long.65°E and Lat. 21°N/ Long.60°E.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh & neighbourhood between 1.5 & 3.1 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough from the above cyclonic circulation to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal across Interior Odisha between 1.5 & 2.1 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Telangana & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough from the above cyclonic circulation to south Tamilnadu across Rayalaseema at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Gulf of Thailand & neighbourhood now emerge into north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood.

Under its influence, a low pressure area has formed over north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood and associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression over central Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh & adjoining south Odisha coast as a depression around 11th October afternoon/evening.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 14th October, 2020

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ Gradual fall in night minimum temperatures by 2-3°C very likely over major parts of northwest India during next 5 days.

♦ No significant change in temperatures very likely over remaining parts of the country during next 4-5 days.

09 October (Day 1): Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Kerala & Mahe.

Thundersquall (speed reaching 50-60 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands;

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

♦ A Low Pressure Area has formed over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts on 1 st October 2020; it lay over Northwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts on 2 nd and over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Odisha coast on 3 rd October 2020;it persisted over the same area on 4 th and 5 th before getting less marked on 6 th ;however, its associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid tropospheric levels lay over coastal Odisha & neighbourhood for another twenty four hours before getting less marked on 7 th October 2020.This system along with its associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid tropospheric levels with southwestwards tilt have caused fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorms along with intense to very intense rainfall activity over East India and adjoining areas of Central and Peninsular India.

♦ Presence of cyclonic circulations in the lower levels and moisture incursion from Bay of Bengal have caused fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorms along with isolated intense to very intense rainfall activity over northeast and adjoining areas of east India during the week.

♦ Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric levels over East Central Arabian Sea and adjoining coastal areas Maharashtra, Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorms along with intense to very intense rainfall activity had been occurred over coastal areas of Maharashtra on one or two days during the week.

Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon:

♦ In view of cessation of rainfall and reduction in moisture content, southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from most parts of Rajasthan, some more parts of Uttar Pradesh and some parts of northwest Madhya Pradesh on 3 rd October 2020; it has further withdrawn from remaining parts of Rajasthan, some more parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, most parts of Gujarat state and some parts of North Arabian Sea on 6 th October 2020.

♦ The withdrawal line of the Southwest Monsoon continued to pass through Lat. 29°N/ Long.81°E, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur, Alwar, Nagaur and Lat. 26°N/ Long.70°E on 1 st and 2 nd October 2020;it passed through Lat. 28°N/ Long.82°E, Bahraich, Gwalior, Sawai Madhopur, Jawai dam and Lat. 25°N/ Long.70°E from 3 rd to 5 th ; it passed through Lat. 28°N/ Long.83°E, Faizabad, Fatehpur, Nowgong,Rajgarh, Ratlam, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Porbandar, Lat. 21°N/ Long.65°E and Lat. 21°N/

Long.60°E on 6 th October 2020 and remained the same till the end of the week. (Fig.1) Heavy Rainfall:

♦ Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places had been occurred over Odisha on three days; over Arunachal Pradesh on two days; over Assam & Meghalaya, Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand and Konakan & Goa on one day each during the week.

♦ Heavy rainfall had been occurred over Assam & Meghalaya on five days; over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on four days each; Over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal and Telangana on two days each; over Andaman &

Nicobar islands, East Madhya Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Konakan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, North & South Interior Karnataka on one day each during the week.

Temperature Scenario:

♦ The highest maximum temperature of 40.9 o C had been recorded at Churu (West Rajasthan) on 3 rd October 2020 and the lowest minimum temperature of 16.4 o C had been recorded at Pachmarhi (West Madhya Pradesh) on 3 rd October 2020 and at Narnaul (Haryana) on 5 th October 2020 over the plains of the country during the week.

METEOROLOGICAL ANALYSIS

♦ Under the influence of last week’s cyclonic circulation over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh-south Odisha coasts, a Low Pressure Area has formed over the same region with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height on 1 st October 2020; it lay over Northwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height on 2 nd ; it lay over Northwest Bay of Bengal &

adjoining Odisha coast with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height on 3 rd and it persisted over the same area with the same vertical extension on 4th and 5 th ; the Low pressure area has become less marked however, the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height, lay over coastal Odisha & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal in the early morning hours and over south Coastal Odisha & neighbourhood in the forenoon of 6 th ; it has become less marked on 7 th October 2020.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat region & neighbourhood lay over Northeast &

adjoining Eastcentral Arabian Sea off south Gujarat-north Maharashtra coasts between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height on 1 st October 2020; it lay over Eastcentral Arabian Sea between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 2 nd ;it lay over Eastcentral Arabian Sea &

adjoining south Maharashtra coast between 1.5 km & 3.1 km above mean sea level on 3 rd and it persisted over the same area between the same levels on 4 th ; it has become less marked on 5 th October 2020.

♦ Last week’s Western Disturbance lay as a trough in mid tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long.65°E to the north of Lat.32°N on 1 st October 2020; it lay with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long.66°E to the north of Lat.32°N on 2 nd ; it has moved away northeastwards on 3 rd October 2020.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & adjoining Assam extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 1 st October 2020.

♦ A Cyclonic circulation lay over south Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood on 2 nd October 2020; it lay over south Odisha & neighbourhood at 7.6 km above mean sea level on 3 rd ; it has become less marked on 4 th October 2020.

♦ A Cyclonic circulation extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level lay over central Assam &

neighbourhood on 2 nd October 2020 and it persisted there with the same vertical extension on 3 rd ; it has become less marked on 4 th October 2020.

♦ A Cyclonic circulation lay over Gulf of Thailand & neighbourhood between 1.5 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 3 rd October 2020 and it persisted there between the same levels on 4 th ; it has become less marked on 5 th October 2020.

♦ A trough at 1.5 km above mean sea level ran from the cyclonic circulation associated with the Low Pressure Area over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Odisha coast to north Maharashtra coast across south Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and north Madhya Maharashtra on 5 th October 2020; it ran from the cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Odisha & neighbourhood to south Gujarat region across Vidarbha and north Madhya Maharashtra at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 6 th ;it has become less marked on 7 th October 2020.

♦ A cyclonic circulation at 3.1 km above mean sea level lay over northwest Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood on 5 th October 2020; it lay over south Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood at the same level on 6 th ; it has become less marked on 7 th October 2020.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Odisha & neighbourhood to eastern parts of Bihar across Gangetic West Bengal at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 6 th October 2020; it has become less marked on 7 th October 2020.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh & neighbourhood and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 7 th October 2020.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh & neighbourhood to Gangetic West Bengal across Interior Odisha and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 7 th October 2020.

♦ A trough ran from south Tamilnadu to the cyclonic circulation over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh &

neighbourhood, across Rayalaseema and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 7 th October
