MORNING Time of Issue: 0800 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

Rainfall/thunderstorm Forecast & Warnings:

♦ Under the influence of strong southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal to northeastern States at lower tropospheric levels:

i) Scattered/fairly widespread rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam-Meghalaya, Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds during next 5 days.

ii) Isolated heavy rainfall likely over Sikkim on 22nd; over Assam-Meghalaya & Arunachal Pradesh during 22nd-24th April, 2022 and isolated hailstorm/squall (speed 50-60 kmph) also likely over Assam-Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim on 22nd April.

iii) Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal &

Odisha during next 2 days and isolated hailstorm also likely over Jharkhand on 22nd April.

♦ Under the influence of the Western Disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long.71°E to the north of Lat.25°N:

i) Light scattered/fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Jammu- Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during next 24 hours. Isolated hailstorm & squall (speed 50-60 kmph) also likely over Uttarakhand on 22nd April.

♦ A fresh feeble Western Disturbance very likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from the night of 24th April, 2022.

♦ Under the influence of a trough from North Interior Karnataka to Comorin Area in lower tropospheric levels; isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds very likely over Kerala-Mahe, Tamilnadu-Puducherry-Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka & Telangana during next 5 days.

Heat wave conditions very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Uttar Pradesh during 23rd-26th and over and west Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh during 24th-26th April, 2022.

Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad; at a few places over at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra &

Kutch, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, Assam-Meghalaya and Kerala & Mahe.

♦ Significant amount of rainfall/thundershower observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday)(1 cm or more): Gulmarg, Pahalgaon & Qazi Gund-2 each and Kokarnag, Batote and Baderwah-1 each.

Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at isolated places over Jammu- Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, northwest Rajasthan, Assam-Meghalaya, Kerala-Mahe, Tamilnadu, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and Saurashtra & Kutch.

Yesterday, no Significant Heat wave conditions prevailed.

♦ Maximum Temperature Departures (as on 21-04-2022): Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Konkan & Goa and at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Jharkhand; at a few places over Gujarat State and Kerala & Mahe and at isolated places over Rayalaseema. They were markedly below normal (-5.1°C or less) at most places over Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad; appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at a few places over West Madhya Pradesh and at isolated places over Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Gangetic West Bengal; at a few places over Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 45.4°C was reported at Chandrapur (Vidarbha).

Minimum Temperature Departures (as on 21-04-2022): Minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at many places over West Rajasthan; at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and East Rajasthan; at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over Uttarakhand, Punjab and Jharkhand; at many places over Marathwada; at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Saurashtra & Kutch and Madhya Maharashtra; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Chhattisgarh and Gujarat Region; at many places over Kerala & Mahe and Vidarbha; at a few places over West Bengal &

Sikkim, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu-Puducherry-Karaikal; at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 20.4°C was reported at Pantnagar(Uttarakhand) over the plains of the country.

♦ The Western Disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level now runs roughly along Long.71°E to the north of Lat.25°N.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & adjoining Punjab extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough from the above cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh to Telangana across Vidarbha extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough from North interior Karnataka to Comorin area at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Meghalaya & neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ A fresh feeble Western Disturbance very likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from the night of 24th April, 2022.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 27th April, 2022

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ Rise by 2-4°C in maximum temperatures very likely over most parts of Northwest India during next 3 days and no significant change thereafter.

♦ Fall by 2-3°C in maximum temperatures very likely over Central India during next 24 hours and gradual rise by 3-4°C thereafter.

♦ No significant change in maximum temperatures very likely over Gujarat and north Maharashtra during next 24 hours and fall by 2-3°C thereafter.

♦ Fall by 2-4°C in maximum temperatures very likely over East India during next 24 hours and gradual rise by 2-4°C during subsequent 3 days.

♦ No significant change in maximum temperatures very likely over rest parts of the country during next 5 days.

Weather Outlook for subsequent 2 days during 27th-29th April, 2022

♦ Scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall likely to continue over Northeast India, Sub- Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim and isolated to scattered light rainfall over southwest peninsular India.

♦ Light isolated rainfall likely over Western Himalayan Region.

♦ Dry weather likely over rest parts of the country.

23 April (Day 2): Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Assam-Meghalaya; with lightning/gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Telangana and with lightning at isolated places over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sub- Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada and Kerala-Mahe.

Heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Assam-Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets very likely over Uttar Pradesh.

24 April (Day 3): Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Assam-Meghalaya and with lightning at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal &

Sikkim, south Konkan & Goa, Telangana and Kerala-Mahe.

Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets very likely over West Madhya Pradesh, West Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

Heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Assam-Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

25 April (Day 4): Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places likely over Assam-Meghalaya and with lightning at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, south Konkan & Goa, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala-Mahe.

Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets likely over West Madhya Pradesh, West Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

26 April (Day 5): Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places likely over Assam-Meghalaya and with lightning at isolated places over south Konkan & Goa, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala- Mahe.

Heat wave conditions in isolated pockets likely over West Madhya Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

♦A cyclonic circulation lay over Westcentral & adjoining areas of Southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh north Tamilnadu coasts between 1.5 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 17th April 2022. It lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu coast between 1.5 km & 2.1 km above mean sea level on 18th and over south Tamilnadu

& neighbourhood between 1.5 km & 3.1 km above mean sea level on 19th and over south Tamilnadu coast &

neighbourhood and extends upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 20th April towards the last date of the week; this system along with a trough/wind discontinuity from Central India to South Peninsula in the lower tropospheric levels which persisted almost throughout the week had caused scattered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Kerala & Mahe, some parts Karanatak and isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm activity over remaining parts of south Peninsula on most of the days of the week; isolated heavy rainfall had occurred over Kerala & Mahe on four to five days and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal on three to 4 days whereas isolated very heavy rainfall had been reported over these areas on one day each along with.

♦Under the influence of troughs in lower tropospheric levels and soutwesterly to southerly winds supported by moisture incursion into the area had caused scatered to fairly widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Assam and Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh during most of the days in the week whereas isolated rainfall/thunderstorm activity had occurred over Odisha and west Bengal and Sikkim on most of the days of the week; isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall activity also had been reported over Northeast for all days till 20th April along with.

♦Movement of two Western Disturbances had caused isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Western Himalayan Region during 13-15 and during 19-20 April.

Heavy rain:

♦Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred for all dates over Assam & Meghalaya during 14-20 April, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal and Kerala & Mahe during 14-18 April and South Interior Karnatak 15-17 April.

Temperature Scenario:

Heatwave

♦A fresh spell heat wave mostly confined to its northern parts was observed at isolated pockets over West Rajasthan on 14 which then persisted for all dates and then abated on 19 April. It was intensified to severe heat wave conditions on 18 and 19 April. Heat wave also prevailed at isolated places over Punjab, Jharkhand, Delhi, Haryana and West Madhya Pradesh during 17-20 April. Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions had occurred at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh during 18-20 April.

♦The highest maximum temperature of 45.2oC had been recorded at Daltonganj (Jharkhand) on 19th April 2022 and the lowest minimum temperature of 17.4 0C had been recorded at Meerut (West Uttar Pradesh) on 17th April 2022 over the plains of the country during the week.

METEOROLOGICALANALYSIS

♦Last week’s Western Disturbance lay as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu Kashmir & neighbourhood and extends upto 5.8 km above mean sea level with the trough aloft in westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long.77°E & to the north of Lat. 28°N on 14th April 2022. The cyclonic circulation became less marked on 15th April. But the trough aloft in westerlies in mid tropospheric levels with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long.79°E & to the north of Lat. 28°N on 15th and ran roughly along Long.80°E & to the north of Lat.

28°N on 16th morning and moved away eastnortheastwards on same day.

♦Last week’s cyclonic circulation lay over northeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 14th April 2022 and become less marked on 15th. The east-west trough from this system to south Assam at 0.9 km above mean sea level also become less marked on 14th April 2022.

♦Last week’s trough/wind discontinuity was seen from west Vidarbha to North Interior Karnataka across Marathwada at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 14th & 15th April 2022. It ran from central parts of Chhattisgarh to South Interior Karnataka across Telangana & North Interior Karnataka at same height on 16th; ran from Vidarbha to North Interior Karnataka across Telangana at same height on 17th and it has become less marked on 18th April.

♦Last week’s cyclonic circulation lay over Southeast Arabian Sea & adjoining Lakshadweep area and extended upto 5.8 km above mean sea level on 14th April 2022. It moved further west-wards and lay over Lakshadweep area &

adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea and extended at same height on 15th and on 16th; lay over central parts of south Arabian Sea and extended at same height on 17th & 18th and become less marked on 19th April

♦Last week’s north-south trough ran roughly along Long.88°E & to the north of Lat.22°N at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 14th April 2022. It ran roughly along Long. 90°E & to the north of Lat. 22°N and seen at 1.5 km above mean sea

level on 15th & 16th and become less marked on 17th.

♦A cyclonic circulation lay over northwest Rajasthan & adjoining Pakistan and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 15th April 2022. It lay over north Rajasthan & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 16th; lay over northwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood and extends upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 17th; lay over south Haryana & neighbourhood and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 18th; lay over north Haryana &

neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 19th and became less marked on 20th April.

♦A fresh Western Disturbance lay as a cyclonic circulation over Iran between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level with the trough aloft in upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level roughly along Long.52°E to the north of Lat.30°N on 17th April 2022. It lay over central parts of Iran between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level and the trough aloft in upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 53°E to the north of Lat.30°N on 18th; lay as a cyclonic circulation over East Iran & adjoining Afghanistan between 3.1 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level on 19th; lay over western parts of Afghanistan between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft with its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level roughly along Lat. 62°E to the north of 20°N on 20th April.

♦A cyclonic circulation lay over Westcentral & adjoining areas of Southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh north Tamilnadu coasts between 1.5 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 17th April 2022. It lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu coast between 1.5 km & 2.1 km above mean sea level on 18th and over south Tamilnadu

& neighbourhood between 1.5 km & 3.1 km above mean sea level on 19th and over south Tamilnadu coast &

neighbourhood and extends upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 20th April.

♦A trough ran from Telangana to south Tamilnadu across Rayalaseema at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 19th April 2022. It ran from Rayalaseema to the cyclonic circulation over south Tamilnadu coast across interior Tamilnadu at same height on 20th April.

♦A cyclonic circulation lay over East Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 19th & 20th April 2022.

♦A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh to central Bangladesh across south Bihar and West Bengal at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 20th April 2022.
