Friday 11 June 2021 MORNING Time of Issue: 0800 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

♦ Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure Area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-tropospheric levels. It is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours and move west-northwestwards across Odisha. Under its influence; fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated to scattered heavy to very heavy falls very likely over most parts of East India & adjoining Central India from today. Isolated extremely heavy falls (≥ 20 cm) also very likely over Odisha on 11th & 12th; over Chhattisgarh during 11th-13th; over East Madhya Pradesh on 13th; over Vidarbha on 12th & 13th, June 2021.

♦ The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through lat. 20.0°N/ Long. 60°E, lat. 20.5°N/ Long. 70°E, Surat, Nandurbar , Betul, Mandla, Bilaspur, Bolangir, Puri, 22.5°N/89.5°E, 24.0°N/89.5°E and Baghdogra.

♦ Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts Chhattisgarh and Odisha, entire West Bengal and Jharkhand and some parts of Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh and remaining parts of north Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours.

♦ Due to the strengthening of westerly winds along the west coast in association with Low Pressure area; widespread rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy falls likely to continue over coastal districts of Maharashtra during 11th to 15th June and likely over coastal Karnataka during 12th to 15th June, 2021. Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Kerala during 12th to 15th June, 2021. Isolated extremely heavy falls also very likely over Konkan during 12th to 15th June, 2021.

♦ Due to west-northwestwards of Low Pressure area & its remnant, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls is very likely over northwest India (excluding Rajasthan) during 12th to 14th June, 2021. Isolated very heavy rainfall also very likely over Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh on 12th June.

♦ Ahead of the monsoon onset, fairly widespread thunderstorm activity accompanied by frequent cloud to ground lightning is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during the next 24 hours.

Heat wave conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Northwest Rajasthan today, the 11th June.

Main Weather Observations

Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at most places over Gangetic West Bengal, Vidarbha, Konkan &

Goa and Coastal Karnataka; at many places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Kerala & Mahe;

at a few place over East Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam & Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Odisha, Gujarat state, Madhya Maharashtra and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday) (3 cm or more): Dharamshala-6; Purulia and Mangalore- 5 each; Amraoti, Dahanu, Adilabad, Mumbai (Santacruz), Umaria, Shirali -3 each.

Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at Many places over Himachal Pradesh, at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, & Muzaffarabad, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Punjab, Uttarkhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, West Bengal & Sikkim, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe.

Maximum Temperature Departures as on 10-06-2021: Maximum temperature were markedly above normal (5.1°C and more) at most places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, & Muzaffarabad; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Tamilnadu and at isolated places over West Rajasthan and Saurashtra & Kutch; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Assam & Meghalaya and Kerala & Mahe; at many places over Arunachal Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; at a few places over Uttarakhand and Andaman &

Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep. They were markedly below normal (-5.1°C and less) at most places over East Madhya Pradesh; at many places over East Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidharbha; at a few places over West Uttar Pradesh and at isolated places over Odisha; appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at many places over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Telangana; at a few places over North Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Gujarat region; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Punjab, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Coastal Karnataka and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 45.3°C was reported at Ganganagar (West Rajasthan).

Minimum Temperature Departures as on 10-06-2021: Minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C and more) at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at isolated places over Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, west Bengal & Sikkim, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Lakshadweep.They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over East Madhya Pradesh; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at most places over Konkan & Goa, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand; Marathwada; at a few places over Coastal Karnataka;, Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh and Telangana and near normal over rest of the country.

Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 18.0°C was reported at Seoni and Mandla (East Madhya Pradesh) over the plains of the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)

♦ Under the influence of cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure Area has formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coasts with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-tropospheric levels. It is likely to become more marked during subsequent 24 hours and move west-northwestwards across Odisha.

♦ The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through lat. 20.0°N/ Long. 60°E, lat. 20.5°N/ Long. 70°E, Surat, Nandurbar , Betul, Mandla, Bilaspur, Bolangir, Puri, 22.5°N/89.5°E, 24.0°N/89.5°E and Baghdogra.

♦ The trough at mean sea level from north Punjab to Northeast Bay of Bengal across south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, central parts of Jharkhand, north Odisha extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over south Uttar Pradesh extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The off shore trough from north Maharashtra coast to north Kerala coast persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Central parts of Arabian Sea between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough from the above cyclonic circulation over Central parts of Arabian Sea to Northeast Arabian Sea between 3.1 km & 5.8 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan & neighbourhood between 1.5 & 2.1 km above mean sea level persists.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 16th June, 2021

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ Fall by 4-6°C in maximum temperature over most parts of Northwest India and by 2-4°C over most parts of East India during next 4-5 days.

♦ No significant change in maximum temperature over rest parts of the country during next 4-5 days.

Advance of Southwest Monsoon

♦ Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some parts of South Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area, south Kerala, south Tamil Nadu, remaining parts of Comorin –Maldives area and some more parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal on 3rd June 2021; thus, Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala on 3rd June, 2021 against the normal date of 1st June, 2021;it has further advanced into remaining parts of South Arabian Sea, some parts of Central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Lakshadweep area & Kerala, most parts of Coastal & South Interior Karnataka, some parts of North Interior Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of Tamilnadu, remaining parts of Southwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of East and West Central Bay of Bengal on 4th June, 2021; it has advanced further into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea, entire Coastal Karnataka, Goa, some parts of Maharashtra, most parts of North Interior Karnataka, some parts of Telengana and some more parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Central Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeast Bay of Bengal on 5th June 2021; it has further advanced into some more parts of Central Arabian Sea and Maharashtra, remaining parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Telengana, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some more parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Central Bay of Bengal and Northeast Bay of Bengal and entire northeastern states of the country and most parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 6th June 2021; it has further advanced into entire Central Arabian Sea and some parts of North Arabian Sea, entire Konkan (including Mumbai) and most parts of interior Maharashtra, some parts of south Gujarat region, most parts of Telangana, some more parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, most parts of Central Bay of Bengal and some more parts of North Bay of Bengal on 9th June 2021.

♦ Under the influence of an off-shore trough at mean sea level and a cyclonic circulation in the lower troposheric levels which lay over East Central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast in the beginning of the week and progressed northwards towards south Gujarat coast during the course of the week , fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity had occurred along the west coast and over parts of South Peninsular India on many days during the week; isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall had been reported from parts of South Peninsular India and isolated heavy rainfall had been reported from parts of the west coast on two to three days along with; it has caused isolated rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Gujarat State also during the second half of the week.

♦ Under the influence of troughs in the lower/middle tropospheric westerlies and cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric levels supported by strong southwesterlies from Bay of Bengal causing moisture incursion into the area, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm activity had occurred over Northeast India and adjoining areas of East India on most of the days during the week; isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall had been reported over parts of Northeast India on many days and isolated heavy rainfall had been reported over adjoining areas of East India on two to three days along with.

♦ Under the influence of Western Disturbances, isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm had occurred over Western Himalayan Region on four to five days during the week; movement of the system along with cyclonic circulation/troughs in the lower /middle tropospheric levels affecting the area, isolated to scattered rainfall/thunderstorm activity had occurred over plains of northwest and central India also on many days during the week.

Heavy Rain:

♦ Heavy to Very heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred over Assam & Meghalaya on four days; over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal and Telengana on three days each; over Kerala & Mahe and Chhattisgarh on two days each; over Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Rayalaseema, North & south Interior Karnataka on one day each during the week.

♦ Heavy rainfall at isolated places had occurred over Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on four days each; over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, East Madhya Pradesh,Konkan & Goa, Rayalaseema, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka on three days each; over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam & Meghalaya, Gujarat Region, Marathwada and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikkal on two days each; over Punjab, West Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telengana, North Interior Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep on one day each during the week.

Hail Storm:

♦ Hail Storm had occurred at isolated places over West Rajasthan and Gangetic West Bengal on one day each during the week.

Temperature Scenario:

♦ The highest maximum temperature of 45.8oC had been recorded at Ganganagar (West Rajasthan) on 9th June 2021 and the lowest minimum temperature of 17.8oC had been recorded at Medak (Telengana) on 4th June 2021 over the plains of the country during the week.

METEOROLOGICALANALYSIS

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level over Central Pakistan &

neighbourhood persisted over the same region on 3rd June 2021;it has become less marked on 4th June 2021.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood lay over north Chhattisgarh &

neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 3rd June 2021;it has become less marked on 4th June 2021.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Eastcentral Arabian Sea & neighbourhood lay over Eastcentral Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 3rd June 2021; it persisted over the same region and extended upto 4.5 km above mean sea level on 4th; it lay over Eastcentral Arabian Sea off Karnataka-Goa coasts and extended upto 4.5 km above mean sea level on 5th; it lay over Northeast Arabian Sea off south Gujarat coast at 4.5 km above mean sea level on 6th;it has become less marked on 7th June 2021.

♦ Last week’s trough of Low at mean sea level off Karnataka-Kerala coasts persisted on 3rd June 2021; it lay as an off-shore trough at mean sea level from south Maharashtra coast to south Kerala coast on 4th and it persisted on 5th; it ran from north Maharashtra coast to north Kerala coast on 6th and it persisted like that on 7th; it has become less marked on 8th June 2021.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal lay over Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining central parts of South Bay of Bengal between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 3rd June 2021; it lay over Sri Lanka & adjoining Comorin area between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 4th and it persisted on 5th; it has become less marked on 6th June 2021.

♦ Last week’s trough from Sub-Himalayan West Bengal to the cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh &

neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 3rd June 2021.

♦ Last week’s Western Disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Longitude 80°E to the north of Latitude 25°N has moved away east- northeastwards on 3rd June 2021.

♦ Last week’s trough from the cyclonic circulation over Eastcentral Arabian Sea & neighbourhood to north Konkan between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 3rd June 2021.

♦ Last week’s trough from the cyclonic circulation over Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal to Comorin area between 3.1 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 3rd June 2021.

♦ Last week’s trough in westerlies with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level roughly along Longitude 90°E to the north of Latitude 22°N has moved away east-northeastwards on 3rd June 2021.

♦ A Western Disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 7.6 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Longitude 72°E to the north of Latitude 30°N on 3rd June 2021;it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over Jammu & neighbourhood between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level on 4th;it was seen as a cyclonic circulation over Punjab & adjoining Haryana at 3.1 km above mean sea level

with a trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 72°E to the north of Lat.

26 °N on 5th; It was seen as a trough between 4.5 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 76°E to the north of Lat. 25°N on 6th;it has moved away east- northeastwards on 7th June 2021.

♦ An east-west shear zone ran from Southwest Arabian Sea to Southeast Bay of Bengal across extreme southern peninsula roughly along Latitude 8°N at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 3rd June 2021; it has become less marked on 4th June 2021.

♦ A north-south trough ran from Telangana to south Tamilnadu and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 3rd June 2021; it has become less marked on 4th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over southwest Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 4th June 2021; it lay over Haryana and adjoining northwest Rajasthan and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on 5th; it lay over northwest Rajasthan and neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 6th; it has become less marked on 7th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over south Bihar & neighbourhood and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 4th June 2021; it has become less marked on 5th June 2021.

♦ A trough in westerlies with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long. 90°E to the north of Lat.20°N on 4th June 2021; it has becomes less marked on 5th June 2021.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over Eastcentral Arabian Sea to south Tamilnadu across Karnataka and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 4th June 2021 and it persisted like that on 5th; it has become less marked on 6th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over south coastal Tamilnadu at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 4th June 2021; it has become less marked on 5th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over southwest Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 6th June 2021; it has become less marked on 7th June 2021.

♦ A trough ran from the cyclonic circulation over southwest Madhya Pradesh & neighbourhood to north Tamilnadu across Marathawada, Telangana, Rayalaseema at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 6th June 2021; it has become less marked on 7th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Konkan & Goa and neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 6th June 2021; it has become less marked on 7th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & neighbourhood and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft between 2.1 km & 3.1 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 90°E to the north of Lat. 23°N on 6th June 2021; the cyclonic circulation over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & neighbourhood has become less marked however, the trough aloft between 2.1 km & 3.1 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long. 92°E to the north of Lat. 23°N on 7th; it has moved away eastwards on 8th June 2021.

♦ A trough at mean sea level ran from East Uttar Pradesh to Northeast Bay of Bengal across south Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal on 7th June 2021 and it persisted on 8th; it ran from southeast Uttar Pradesh to Northeast Bay of Bengal across Jharkhand and southern parts of Gangetic West Bengal on 9th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over southwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level with a trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 78°E to the north of Lat. 26°N on 7th June 2021; The cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level has become less marked, however, the trough aloft with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long. 82°E to the north of Lat. 26°N on 8th; it has become less marked on 9th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Central Pakistan and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 7th June 2021; it has become less marked on 8th June 2021.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over central Assam & neighborhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 8th June 2021; it has become less marked on 9th June 2021.

♦ A trough between 1.5 km & 2.1 km above mean sea level lay roughly along Long. 86°E to the north of Lat.
