Press: Dated: 16 June, 2022 Subject: Current Weather Status and Extended range Forecast for next two weeks
Salient Observed Features for week ending on 15 June 2022
Last week's heat wave which started since June 3 continued to prevail over isolated parts of Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, northern parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, South East Uttar Pradesh, North Madhya Pradesh , eastern parts of Vidarbha till 12 June, which then reduced the latter in areas and prevailed over isolated pockets over Delhi, south Haryana, South East Uttar Pradesh and parts of the western Himalayan region during 13-15 June. Eastern India covering isolated parts of Jharkhand, western Bihar, northern interior Odisha and Chhattisgarh is also experiencing a heat wave during June 10-15 in this week. Advancement of southwest monsoon towards central India and eastern India and the impact of the WD over northwest India by the end of the week has caused such a decrease in heat wave with a drop in maximum temperature by 5-10 degrees.
Under favorable synoptic systems and winds, fairly widespread to widespread rain/thunderstorm activity observed over Northeast India and adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal for most of the date of the week and during June 14-16, has extreme rainfall records over these areas caused flooding. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorms were also reported from many divided subdivisions of peninsular and parts of central India during the 2nd half of the week. Weekly total rainfall distribution during the current week ending 15 June 2022 Monsoon Season Rainfall Scenario (01 to 15 June 2022): During the week ending 15 June 2022, for the country as a whole, the weekly cumulative departure for all India rainfall from its long period average (LPA) was -24% with weekly cumulative over northwest India as -64% while all India cumulative rainfall under this year's monsoon season rainfall scenario (01-15 June 2022) is -32% and over northwest India , it is below the LPA by -77%.
Details of the rainfall distribution over the four broad geographical regions of India are given in Table 1 and the weekly and seasonal meteorological rainfall are given in Annexures I and II respectively.
