Significant Weather Features
♦ Fog, Cold Wave/Cold Day Warning:
i) Dense to very dense fog in isolated pockets over Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi during next 3-4 days.
ii) Dense fog very likely in isolated pockets over Uttar Pradesh during 30th December-03rd January and over north Rajasthan during 31st December- 03rd January.
iii) Dense Fog very likely in isolated pockets over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during next 2 days.
♦ Minimum Temperature Forecast & Cold Wave/Cold Day Warning:
i) Gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 3-5°C very likely over plains of Northwest India during next 2 days. Due to this; Cold Wave & Cold Day Conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan on 02nd & 03rd January, 2023.
ii) No significant change in minimum temperatures likely over many parts of East India during next 24 hours and rise by 2-3°C thereafter. No significant change in minimum temperatures likely over Madhya Pradesh during next 24 hours and fall by 2-3°C thereafter.
iii) Cold Day Conditions very likely in isolated pockets over Uttarakhand on 30th December.
♦ A Western Disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies runs roughly along Longitude 68°E to the north of Latitude 30°N. An induced cyclonic circulation lies over north Pakistan & neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. Under their influence;
i) Isolated to scattered light rainfall/snowfall likely over Western Himalayan Region on 30th December.

♦ Rainfall/thundershower observed (from 0830-1730 hrs IST yesterday): at many places over Punjab and at isolated places over Jammu, kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand and Chandigarh.
♦ Chief rainfall amount recorded (from 0830-1730 hrs IST yesterday)(in cm): Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad: Gulmarg- 1.
♦ Fog observed (at 0530 hrs IST Today): Very Dense fog observed in isolated pockets over Uttar Pradesh; Dense fog in isolated pockets over Punjab, Bihar and Assam and Moderate fog in isolated pockets over West Rajasthan.

♦ Minimum Temperature Departures (as on 29-12-2022): Minimum temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at a few places over Telangana; at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.1°C ) at many places over Coastal Karnataka; at a few places over West Rajasthan, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada; at isolated places over Rayalaseema; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Punjab; at many places over Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh &
Delhi, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Lakshadweep; at isolated places over East Rajasthan and Saurashtra
& Kutch. They were below normal (-1.6°C to -3.1°C ) at many places over East Uttar Pradesh; at a few places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at isolated places over West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Gangetic West Bengal and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 4.5°C was reported at Nowgong (East Madhya Pradesh) over plains of the country.
♦ Maximum Temperature Departures (as on 29-12-2022): Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.1°C) at most places over East Rajasthan and Marathwada; at many places over West Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, North Interior Karnataka and Telangana; at a few places over West Madhya Pradesh; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema and Saurashtra & Kutch; at many places over East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal; at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh
& Delhi, Gujarat Region, Odisha, Kerala & Mahe and Konkan & Goa. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.1°C) at most places over Jammu, kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad; at many places over Punjab and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; at a few places over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.1°C) at many places over Himachal Pradesh and Assam &
Meghalaya; at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 36.2°C was reported at Cannur (Kerala) over the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)
♦ The cyclonic circulation over Southeast Arabian Sea & adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.
♦ The Western Disturbance as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level now runs roughly along Longitude 68°E to the north of Latitude 30°N.
♦ The induced cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

ALL INDIA WEEKLY WEATHER REPORT 22 DECEMBER – 28 DECEMBER, 2022
SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES
♦ Last week’s Well Marked Low Pressure area over Southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean concentrated into a Depression over Southwest & adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal on the morning of 22nd Dec and lay centered at a distance of about 420 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 520 km east-southeast of Nagappattinam and 690 km southeast of Chennai. It continued to move northwestwards till the evening of 22nd Dec and lay centered over Southwest Bay of Bengal at a distance of about 380 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 520 km east-southeast of Nagappattinam and 590 km east-southeast of Chennai. It then recurved northeastwards, followed a looping track and again recurved northwestwards till morning of 24th Dec and lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal, at a distance of about 400 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 470 km east of Nagappattinam and 500 km east- southeast of Chennai. It moved further south-westwards and lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast at a distance of about 80 km east-northeast of Trincomalee, 140 km southeast of Jaffna, 320 km southeast of Nagappattinam and 510 km south-southeast of Chennai on morning of 25th Dec. It continued to move west-southwestwards and weakened into a well marked low pressure area over Sri Lanka at afternoon on the same day. It further weakened as a Low Pressure area over Comorin area &
neighbourhood on 26th Morning. The Low Pressure area became less marked on morning of 27th Dec.
However, the associated cyclonic circulation as a remnant of the system, moved further westwards and lay over Maldives & adjoining Comorin area and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level, on the morning of the same date 27th Dec. It then moved over to Southeast Arabian Sea & adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 28th Dec. It became less marked thereafter.
♦Two new feeble Western Disturbances was seen moved during the week across extreme northern parts of India.
Fog
♦ Dense to very dense fog observed during most of the nights and mornings during the week over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu, North Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh: It had been reported as Dense to very dense fog at isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan, Bihar and Tripura during 22nd-24th Dec and then it increased and observed over most parts of Punjab; in many parts of Haryana, Chandigarh; during 25-27 Dec, over Delhi on 27th Dec. It also continued to remain over isolated pockets over northwest Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh during 25th-27th Dec. It was reduced over most parts of northwest India on 28th Dec morning with isolated pockets over Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and not observed over Delhi on 27th-28th Morning. But, it continued to be observed over most places over Punjab on 28th Dec. Isolated dense fog was also observed over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and Tripura and Odisha on 28th Dec.
Temperature Scenario:
Cold Day to severe cold days: Cold Day to severe cold days was observed at most places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and north Rajasthan during 22nd-27th Dec; at isolated to few places over Uttar Pradesh during 25th-27th Dec and over Delhi during 25th-27th Dec.
Cold Wave: Cold wave conditions at isolated to few places to many places over Punjab during 22nd-28th Dec, at a few places over Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and northwest Rajasthan during 24th-28th Dec and over Delhi during 25th-27th Dec.
♦The highest maximum temperature of 37.1oC was recorded at Mangalore (Coastal Karnataka) on 27th December 2022 and the lowest minimum temperature of 0.0oC at Churu (West Rajasthan) on 26th December 2022 over the plains of the country during the week.
Heavy rain: Heavy to Very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry &
Karaikal on one day during the week.

♦ Last week’s trough in westerlies at 3.1 km above mean sea level roughly along longitude 90°E to the north of latitude 25°N on 21st Dec also moved away northeastwards on 22nd December 2022.
♦ Two new feeble Western Disturbances was seen moved during the week: The 1st Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in lower & middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level roughly along longitude 63°E to the north of latitude 26°N on 22nd December 2022. It was seen as a cyclonic circulation in lower & middle troposphericwesterlies over Afghanistan &
neighbourhood on 23rd; as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Longitude 72°E to the north of Latitude 32°N on 24th and it has moved away east-northeastwards on 25th Dec. The 2nd Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in middle &
upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Longitude 50°E to the north of Latitude 32°N on 25th December 2022. It ran roughly along Longitude 56°E to the north of Latitude 32°N on 26th; ran roughly along Longitude 58°E to the north of Latitude 32°N 27th Dec and it has moved away east-northeastwards on 28th Dec.
♦ Another fresh Western Disturbance was seen as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Longitude 53°E to the north of Latitude 26°N on 28th December.
