Friday 13 November 2020 MORNING Time of Issue: 0730 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

♦ Under the influence of a trough in easterly at lower levels from cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka coast to southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu Coast:

i) Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Lakshadweep area during next 4-5 days.

ii) Isolated heavy rain also very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during next 5 days and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh on 15th & 16th November, 2020.

♦ Under the influence of a Western Disturbance and its interaction with lower level easterlies;

i) Scattered to fairly widespread precipitation very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh; Isolated rainfall over Uttarakhand on 15th-16th Nov., over plains of northwest India and adjoining central India on 15th November, 2020.

ii) Isolated heavy falls also very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad on 14th-15th November, 2020.

♦ Gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2-3°C over Northwest India and by 2-4°C over Central India during next 2-3 days. No large change in minimum temperature over rest parts of the country during next 4-5 days.

Main Weather Observations

Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at most places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh &

Yanam and at isolated places over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Rayalaseema.

Rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday) (1 cm or more): Numgambakkam -3; Narsapur and Ongole- 2 each; Nellore, Kanyakumari, Bapatla and Kavali -1 each.

Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh

& Yanam, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe.

Maximum Temperature Departures as on 12-11-2020: Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at most places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; at many places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya and Kerala & Mahe; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Bihar, Jharkhand and Coastal Karnataka; at many places over Uttarakhand, Gangetic West Bengal, East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh; at a few places over Jammu

& Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Vidarbha, Lakshadweep, Konkan & Goa, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Andaman & Nicobar Islands and at isolated places over Odisha. They were below normal (-1.6°C to - 3.0°C) at many places over West Rajasthan and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam; at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, East Rajasthan, Vidarbha and Gujarat Region and at isolated places over Punjab, West Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra and Saurashtra

& Kutch and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 36.3°C was reported at Karwar (Coastal Karnataka).

Minimum Temperature Departures as on 12-11-2020: Minimum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Chhattisgarh; at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha and at isolated places over Rayalaseema and Assam

& Meghalaya; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Saurashtra & Kutch and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal; at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Bihar and at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan &

Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan and Telangana. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at a few places over Saurashtra & Kutch, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha and at isolated places over East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh and below normal (-1.5°C to - 3.0°C) at a few places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka and at isolated places over Gujarat Region and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 9.4°C was reported at Mandla (East Madhya Pradesh) over the plains of the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka & neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough from above cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka & neighbourhood to southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu coast extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The cyclonic circulation over southeast Bihar & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The Western Disturbance as a trough in mid-tropospheric levels with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 56°E and to the north of Lat.30°N persists.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 18th November, 2020

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ Gradual rise in minimum temperature by 2-3°C over Northwest India and by 2-4 °C over Central India during next 2-3 days. No large change in minimum temperature over rest parts of the country during next 4-5 days.

♦ Moderate fog in isolated pockets very likely over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on 13th & 14th November, 2020.

Weather Outlook for subsequent 2 days from 18th November, 2020 to 20th November, 2020.

♦ Isolated to scattered rain/snow is likely over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan &

Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh and isolated rainfall over North west Indian plains.

♦ Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity likely over Tamilnadu, adjoining parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Isolated to scattered rainfall activity also likely over Rayalaseema and Islands.

♦ Dry weather likely over the remaining parts of the country.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

Northeasterly wind convergence over southeast Pensinsualr India prevailed at lower levels during 5-6 Nov and caused isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall Tamilnadu, Puducherry &

Karaikal and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the period.

An Easterly wave at lower levels moved from south Bay of Bengal (BoB) and adjoining central BoB to southwest BoB off Andhra Pradesh –Tamil Nadu coast during 9-11 Nov 2020 and casued isolated to scattered rainfall over extreme southern parts of Penisular India during the period.

➢ Heavy to very heavy Rainfall: Heavy to very heavy Rainfall observed at isolated places Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on two day during the week.Heavy Rainfall: Heavy Rain observed at isolated places over Kerala on two days; over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and Andaman & Nicobar Islands on one day during the week.

➢ Temperature: The lowest minimum temperature of 7.9 0C had been recorded at Ajmer (East Rajasthan) on 05th November 2020 and Highest Maximum temperature of 37.1 0C had been recorded at Vengurla 06th November 2020 over the plains of the country during the week.

LEGEND: A few days- 3 days, Many days- 4 to 5 days and Most days- 6 to 7 days during the week.

METEOROLOGICALANALYSIS

♦ Last week’s the cyclonic circulation lay over Gulf of Mannar & adjoining Sri Lanka and extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 05th November 2020. It lay over Comorin area & neighbourhood on 06th and less marked on 07th.

♦ Last week’s trough of low at mean sea level from Comorin Maldives area to Karnataka coast seen as a trough in easterlies from Lakshadweep-Maldives area to Karnataka coast and extends upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 06thand less marked on 07th.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Equatorial Indian Ocean & adjoining South Andaman sea and

extended upto 5.8 km above mean sea level on 07th November 2020, persisted on 8th and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. It moved over to Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining South Andaman Sea extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 09th. It has become less marked on 10th Nov.

♦ A cyclonic circulation extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean off south Sri Lanka coast on 09th November 2020 and moved over to south Sri Lanka coast on 10th. It persisted there on 11th and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level.

♦ A trough of low at mean sea level lay over south Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on 09th November 2020. It lay over Southwest & adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal on 10th; ran from Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast to Westcentral Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 11th.

♦ Last week’s trough in lower & mid tropospheric westerlies with its axis between 3.1 Km to 3.6 km above mean sea level ran roughly along Long. 88°E to the north of Lat. 25°N on 05th Nov 2020. It ran roughly along Long. 90°E to the north of Lat. 25°N with its axis at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 06th

& 07th and moved away northeastwards on 08th.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh & adjoining North Bay of Bengal extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level has become less marked on 05th November 2020.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over East Bihar & neighbourhood at 3.1 km above mean sea level on 08th November 2020. It persisted between 3.1 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level on 09th and then moved over to southeast Uttar Pradesh & neighbourhood on 10th & 11th Nov.
