Friday 06 November 2020 MORNING Time of Issue: 0800 hours IST ALL INDIA WEATHER SUMMARY AND FORECAST BULLETIN

Significant Weather Features

♦ A cyclonic circulation lies over Gulf of Mannar & adjoining Sri Lanka in lower tropospheric levels and a trough of Low at mean sea level runs from Comorin-Maldives area to Karnataka coast. Under their influence:

i) Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall very likely over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe during next 3 days; isolated to scattered rainfall over Coastal & South Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the same period.

ii) Isolated heavy rainfall with moderate thunderstorm & lightning also very likely over Tamilnadu during 06th-8th November, 2020.

♦ Rainfall activity very likely to increase over Adman & Nicobar Islands from 8th November, 2020 with possibility of isolated Heavy falls over Andaman Islands on 8th & 9th November, 2020.

Main Weather Observations

Rain/Thundershowers observed (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday): at many places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal; at a few places over Kerala & Mahe and at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST to 1730 hours IST of yesterday) (1 cm or more): Kottayam, Madurai and Nagappattinam-1 each.

Thunderstorm observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0530 hours IST of today): at a few places over Kerala &

Mahe and at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.

Maximum Temperature Departures as on 05-11-2020: Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at a few places over South Interior Karnataka and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal; at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Jharkhand, Rayalaseema and Lakshadweep; at many places over Punjab, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Kerala & Mahe; at a few places over Himachal Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana and Konkan & Goa; at isolated places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Saurashtra & Kutch, North Interior Karnataka and Andaman

& Nicobar Islands. They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya; at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest maximum temperature of 37.0°C was reported at Bulsar (Gujarat Region).

Minimum Temperature Departures as on 05-11-2020: Minimum temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and South Interior Karnataka; at a few places over Assam &

Meghalaya, West Rajasthan, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, West Rajasthan, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep and Tamilnadu and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. They were markedly below normal (-5.1C or less) at isolated places over East Rajasthan;

appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to - 5.0°C) at many places over East Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Bihar; at a few places over Marathawada; at isolated places over Uttarakhand and Jharkhand; below normal (-1.5°C to - 3.0°C) at most places over Vidarbha and North Interior Karnataka; at many places over Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim; at a few places over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Gangetic West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh and at isolated places over Punjab, Odisha, Madhya Maharashtra and near normal at rest part of the country. Yesterday, the lowest minimum temperature of 7.9°C was reported at Ajmer (East Rajasthan) over the plains of the country.

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 0530 hours IST)

♦ The cyclonic circulation over Gulf of Mannar & adjoining Sri Lanka extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough of Low at mean sea level from Comorin-Maldives area to Karnataka coast across Lakshadweep area extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

♦ The trough in lower & mid tropospheric westerlies with its axis between 3.1 km to 3.6 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 88°E to the north of Lat. 25°N persists.

Weather Forecast for next 5 days * upto 0830 hours IST of 11th November, 2020

♦ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 5 days precipitation forecast is given in Table-1.

♦ Gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh &

Delhi and Uttar Pradesh during next 3-4 days. Fall in minimum temperatures by 3-4°C also very likely over Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal during same period. No significant change in minimum temperatures in rest parts of the country.

Weather Outlook for subsequent 2 days from 11th November, 2020 to 13th November, 2020.

♦ Isolated to Scattered rainfall activity likely over Tamilnadu & Kerala and islands. Dry weather likely over the remaining parts of the country.

SIGNIFICANT WEATHER FEATURES

A low pressure area formed over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal adjoining Myanmar coast on 31st October.

Moved northwestwards and lay centered over Northeast & adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal on 1st November and became less marked on 2nd November. However, its associated circulation moved inland and persisted over Bangladesh till 4th November. It caused isolated h

eavy rain over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and over Assam & Meghalaya during the week.

In association with easterly waves three lower level cyclonic circulations formed over

southwest Bay of Bengal consecutively and moved across extreme south peninsula and caused isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu during the week.

Temperature Scenario:

METEOROLOGICALANALYSIS

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal off north Tamilnadu coast in the lower levels slowly moved westwards and lay over over Tamil Nadu coast & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal and extended upto 4.5 km above mean sea level 30 Oct and then lay over north interior Tamilnadu between 3.1 &

3.6 km above mean sea level on 1 Nov and became less marked thereafter.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal off North Tamilnadu coast and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 1 Nov and become less marked on 2 Nov. Another cyclonic circulation lay over central parts of South Bay of Bengal and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level over Southeast & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal and extends upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 2 Nov and 3 Nov. It moved westwards and lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast and extended upto 3.1 km above mean sea level on 4 Nov. A cyclonic circulation lay over Southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast at 0.9 km above mean sea level on 3 Nov and merged with above system on 4 Nov.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal & adjoining North Andaman Sea between 1.5 & 4.5 km above mean sea level. Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area has formed over Eastcentral Bay of Bengal

& adjoining North Andaman Sea on 31 Oct, 2020. Associated cyclonic circulation extended upto 4.5 km above mean sea level. It lay over Northeast & adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal on 1 Nov and became less marked on 2 Nov. However, the associated cyclonic circulation lay over North Bay of Bengal & adjoining Bangladesh and extended upto 2.1 km above mean sea level on the same day and then over Bangladesh & adjoining North Bay of Bengal and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 3 Nov persited there till the last day of the week.

♦ A trough was seen from the cyclonic circulation associated with the above low pressure area to Bangladesh across northeast Bay of Bengal and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 31 Oct and 1 Nov and less marked thereafter.

♦ Las week’s cyclonic circulation over Southwest Arabian Sea extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persisted on 29 Oct and became less marked on 30 Oct.

♦ Last week’s cyclonic circulation over Eastcentral Arabian Sea lay over South & adjoining Central Arabian Sea and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 29 Oct and then moved westwards and lay over Southwest Arabian Sea and extended upto 1.5 km above mean sea level on 1 Nov and became less marked on 2 Nov.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over Southeast Arabian Sea off Kerala coast between 3.1 & 5.8 km above mean sea level on 31 Oct. It moved over to Maldives-Comorin area at 1.5 km above mean sea level on 2 Nov and became less marked thereafter.

♦ A cyclonic circulation lay over North Konkan & adjoining parts of Madhya Maharashtra between 1.5 km & 2.1 km above mean sea level on 31 Oct and 1 Nov and then over Eastcentral Arabian Sea off north Maharashtra- south Gujarat coasts between 1.5 km & 2.1 km above mean sea level on 2 Nov and became less marked thereafter.

♦ A trough ran from southeast Arabian Sea to Karnataka coast across Lakshadweep area and Extended upto 0.9 km above mean sea level on 04th November 2020.

♦ Last week’s Western Disturbance lay over north Afghanistan neighbourhood between 3.1 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level as a cyclonic circulation on 29 Oct with the trough aloft in mid tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level was seen roughly along Long. 72°E to the north of Lat. 28°N and it was seen as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 72°E to the north of Lat. 28°N on 29 Oct, along Long. 74°E to the north of Lat. 28°N on 30 Oct. It slowly moved eastwards and again seen as a cyclonic circulation over North Pakistan & neighbourhood between 1.5 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level on 1 Nov with the trough aloft in upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis between 5.8 km & 7.6 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 75°E to the north of Lat. 28°N and persisted and also almost persisted there on 2 Nov. It continued to move slowly westwards and was seen over north Haryana & neighbourhood between 1.5 km & 4.5 km above mean sea level with the trough aloft in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 78°E to the north of Lat. 25°N on 3 Nov. The circulation became less marked on 4 Nov. However the trough in westerlies now runs in lower & mid tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level was seen roughly along Long. 82°E to the north of Lat. 25°N on 4 Nov.
