Excellent Scholarship 2022

The Yamanashi Gakuin University Excellent Scholarship (henceforth the Excellent Scholarship) awards students who achieve outstanding results in areas such as Academic Performance, Acquisition of Qualifications/Certifications, Culture and Arts, and Social Activities, and are role model for other students, as part of Yamanashi Gakuin University’s encouragement of student study and measures to support individual endeavor. The Excellent Scholarship is granted by Yamanashi Gakuin University and repayment is unnecessary.

Applicants will be evaluated based on the university’s vision, school philosophy, and educational philosophy outlined below.

We encourage you to actively take on this challenge!

• University-wide internationalization (learning and growth of students from diverse backgrounds)

• Qualitative change in education (growth as "autonomous learners")

• School Philosophy C2C (“Curiosity to Creativity”・“Challenge to Change”)

• Educational philosophy "Creativity, Curiosity, Change, Challenge"

1. Application Period

Monday, September 26th, 2022 ~ Friday, October 28th, 2022 5:00PM (applications must be submitted or arrive on time)

2. Eligible Applicants

Degree-seeking students (including privately financed international students) enrolled in Yamanashi Gakuin University (excluding graduate students)

The following students are NOT eligible:

① Students receiving the Academic Scholarship i.e. students who are partially or fully exempt from University fees (Tuition, Facility and Equipment fees)

② Students receiving other YGU scholarships or subsidies for the current academic year

3. Excellent Scholarship will be awarded to students who have shown excellence in any of the following areas:

(1) Academic Performance

(2) Acquisition of Qualifications/Certifications

(3) Culture and Arts

(4) Social Activities

4. Number of Recipients

A limited number of recipients will be selected from each department and year of study.

5. Scholarship Amount (one time)

Type: Recipient Amount

A Especially outstanding students 300,000 yen

B Outstanding students 150,000 yen

6. How to Apply:

1. Fill out the designated Application Form (Download from UNIPA)

2. Submit the Application Form and supporting documents to the Student Center (学生センター) by submission in- person or by post.

*Both English and Japanese are accepted. If special terminology in English is used, please provide a Japanese translation.

7. Selection Criteria:

⚫ Preliminary Screening Only your academic performance and activities achieved during your time as an enrolled student at YGU will be evaluated.

➢ Academic Performance Screening will be based on academic record (GPA) and documents.

 1st year students: you must have attained 5 or more courses with either A or B grades in the Spring 2022 semester

 2nd ~ 3rd year students: you must have attained 10 or more courses with either A or B grades in the 2021 academic year

 4th year students: you must have attained 9 or more courses with either A or B grades in the 2021 academic year

For iCLA students who studied abroad in the 2021 academic year, your academic performance during the 2020 academic year will be considered.

➢ Acquisition of Qualifications/Certifications, Culture and Arts, and Social Activities Recognitions received for activities in previous academic years will NOT be considered.

 Acquisition of Qualifications/Certifications

Evaluation based on the criteria of the “YGU Career Up Support System” (available on YGU Career Development Homepage)

 Culture and Arts, and Social Activities

Evaluation based on documents which verify activity details such as host organization, what activities were conducted, the scale of the activities, and what was accomplished etc.

⚫ Secondary Screening

1. Applicants who pass the Preliminary Screening will receive a notification about the Secondary Screening.

2. The Secondary Screening will be an interview conducted by the Selection Committee on Saturday, November

26st, 2022.

3. If applicants who fail to attend the interview, their application will be revoked.

4. Recipients will be determined based on evaluation of both the applicant’s Preliminary and Secondary Screening.
