GOD’S WORDS FOR TODAY (Lk. 12:39-48) The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke

But know this, that if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have left his house to be broken into. You also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an unexpected hour." Peter said, "Lord, are you telling this parable for us or for all?" And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that servant says to himself, `My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the unfaithful. And that servant who knew his master's will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.

REFLECTION:

The Lord Jesus calls us to be vigilant in watching for his return and to be ready to meet him when he calls us to himself. The Lord gives us his Holy Spirit so that we may have the wisdom, strength, and help we need to turn away from own sin and to embrace God's way of love, justice, and holiness. Are you ready to meet the Lord?

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, make me strong in faith, steadfast in hope, and generous in. May I always be watchful and ready to answer when you draw near. Amen.

Prayer of St. Gertrude

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

FROM THE OVCA –JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL COMMUNITY:

1. Today, we are all once again privileged and blessed because the relic of St. Anne (Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Grandmother of our savior Jesus Christ) is here today at the Capilla de San Juan Bautista De La Salle from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM for public veneration. Please find time to visit her as this is a very rare spiritual opportunity given to us.

2. This is to reiterate our request to support the project of the Social Studies Department which is also in support of the institution’s Project Carbon Neutral that the whole community refrain from using our ACUs every Wednesday for the months of October and November from 8:00am-9:00am. This simple act of sacrifice will have a huge impact to our environment and will help save and preserve Mother Earth for us and the next generation to have a sustainable future.

3. Students are reminded of the following information (that we are implementing) about free-structured Wednesdays:

• This once a week schedule geared towards the Synergized, Mobile, Integrated Learning Experience: Self- Directed (SMILES) Program initiated by the Office of the President.

• The 1 Day SMILES is a platform for learning engagement that promotes innovation, collaboration, flexibility, creativity and well-being among the learners in a networked learning environment.

• During Wednesdays, students will have a free- structured day. They may use their time for silent reading, advance study, individual tasks, group dynamics, practices, or any other academic-related tasks.

• Moreover, as a support to the Social Innovation Fundamentals (SIF), Wednesday schedules may be used by the students to accomplish CAPSTONE-related tasks or to prepare for the expected output for the

CAPSTONE Initiatives in a particular quarter. If needed, data gathering in the community may also be done during Wednesdays.

• Students are not allowed to use their cellular phones during free-structured Wednesdays. Likewise, playing video games or on-line games, watching unnecessary videos or movies are also prohibited.

From the JHS CLCE Department

The Eucharist, the Divine Sacrament of the altar, is the source and summit of our being a disciple of Jesus where we draw our life, our energy, our mission. Let us continue our devotion to the Holy Eucharist as Jesus invites us to partake in his offering and deepen our relationship with Him. FROM THE INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

Cont…Bone Health

What can I do to keep my bones healthy?

You can take a few simple steps to prevent or slow bone loss. For example:

Include plenty of calcium in your diet. For adults ages 19 to 50 and men ages 51 to 70, the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) is 1,000 milligrams (mg) of calcium a day. The recommendation increases to 1,200 mg a day for women after age 50 and for men after age 70.

Good sources of calcium include dairy products, almonds, broccoli, kale, canned salmon with bones, sardines and soy products, such as tofu. If you find it difficult to get enough calcium from your diet, ask your doctor about supplements.

Pay attention to vitamin D. Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. For adults ages 19 to 70, the RDA of vitamin D is 600 international units (IUs) a day. The recommendation increases to 800 IUs a day for adults age 71 and older. Good sources of vitamin D include oily fish, such as tuna and sardines, egg yolks, and fortified milk. Sunlight also contributes to the body’s production of vitamin D. If you’re worried about getting enough vitamin D, ask your doctor about supplements.

Include physical activity in your daily routine. Weight-bearing exercises, such as walking, jogging, tennis and climbing stairs, can help you build strong bones and slow bone loss.

Avoid substance abuse. Don’t smoke. Avoid drinking more than two alcoholic drinks a day.

14 Enlist your doctor’s help

If you’re concerned about your bone health or your risk factors for osteoporosis, including a recent bone fracture, consult your doctor. He or she might recommend a bone density test. The results will help your doctor gauge your bone density and determine your rate of bone loss. By evaluating this information and your risk factors, your doctor can assess whether you might be a candidate for medication to help slow bone loss.
