Amen.

San Juan Bautista De La Salle … Ipanalangin mo kami!

Hesus, manatili ka sa aming mga puso … Magpakailanman!

Amen.

Katipunan

Adhikain at Paniniwala

Reasons Why Eating Junk foods Is Bad 2) Diabetes

Your insulin levels become elevated when you eat processed sugars, such as those in soft drinks, white flour and other foods devoid of fiber and nutrients necessary to properly metabolize carbohydrates. Eating junk foods throughout the day causes chronically high insulin levels, which eventually prompts your cells to begin to ignore this important hormone, resulting in a condition known as insulin resistance. Ultimately, obesity and Type 2 diabetes may set in. Since the 1980s, Type 2 diabetes, which was minimal in teenagers, has risen to 15 percent.

FROM THE OVCAD – INSTITUTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES:

SIGHT SAVING-MONTH Sight-Saving Tips

Some of the most frequent lines we used to hear from our parents were “Finish your carrots—they will help make your eyes healthy!” and even “Don’t read in the dark. Your vision will start to blur.” Though at the time we didn’t understand the logic that went behind these reminders, as we grew older, we realized that most of what our parents said were true.

Over the years those small reminders became less frequent and we’ve forgotten to tend to our eyes as often as we should.

The truth is, it’s not only little children who need a reminder to take care of their eyes. Even grown-ups need to be told to take care of their eyesight too.

In an effort to promote good eye health practice, the Department of Health (DOH) institutionalized Sight Saving Month in August of 2013.

How then, can you start rebuilding the habit of caring for your eyes? Celebrate Sight Saving Month by following these tips:

1. Have your eyes checked

Your friendly-Ophthalmologist could be just a few miles away, so what are you waiting for? Getting an eye exam will help you plot your starting point so you will know how to take care of your eyes better. Remember to tell your doctor your consumption of media on mobile devices or computers so that he could gauge how strained your eyes can get in a day. If the doctor prescribes you to wear glasses, wear them religiously to avoid further damage.

2. Engage in eye exercises

How can you possibly exercise your eyes, you ask? It’s simple. You won’t even have to touch your eyes while doing so.

When your eyes are getting tired from staring at a computer screen all day—or well, just plain tired, what you can do is take eye breaks. Every half hour or so, look away from the screen and find a spot some 15 to 20 feet away. Stare at the solid spot (make sure it isn’t moving) for 20 seconds, then close your eyes to rest. Repeat this several times until your eyes feel rested. These are considered eye exercises because you do them in repetition for several minutes.
