Abstract

This

sfudy assessed

the patients'

experience

of hospital

care and nurses' perceptions

of

patient safety culture (PSC) using

fwo

instruments:

Modified-

Hospital Survey

on

Patient Safety Culture (MHSOPSC) and Hospital Care Experience Assessment

Survey (HCEAS). The

descriptive cross-sectional design was

utilized in which the

data were collected

from ll7

patients and 127 nurses

in five

hospitals through convenient sampling using

IBM

SPSS v20. The PSC dimension

of

teamwork

within

units was identified

to

be the strongest

point while

the non-punitive response

to

errors dimension was the weakest point. Among the patients, the hospital care dimension on discharge information was the strongest point while the hospital environment was rated least. Based on the findings,

it

was concluded that there were

a

number

of

areas that need to be improved in the areas of patient safety culture and quality ofpatient care.

& Neva, ZA}q.

The Institute of Medicine (2000), in its report, "To
