The Portrayal of The Protagonist in Thomas Harris 'The Silence of The Lambs'.

The Portrayal of The Protagonist in Thomas Harris 'The Silence of The Lambs'.

I see that such character as Clarice Starling also can be seen in our real life because some people in the real life have experienced trauma. A trauma is not something new to every human. I am sure we all have experienced a traumatic experience. And yet, it is up to us to decide whether the trauma will last forever. It can be a part of our lives which can makes us stronger or destroy us. In Starling’s case, is all about losing someone that we love. Starling has experienced how her father died, and how her mother left her, but she still managed to fight back and released herself. For some people these experiences can be such devastating for their lives. The fear of losing your loved ones is something that can be seen as a trauma just like what Starling has had. It only has one solution, for we should face what we are afraid of bravely, intelligently, and persistently until we win.

While the structure of grammar and syntax adapted from the structure of the source language into target language structure. That is as same as what Wills (1977: 98) explains about this technique that emphasizes the change of syntactic structure. He calls it as traduction litterale. It means the replacement of SL syntactic structures, normally on the clause or sentence scale, by TL syntactic structures which are isomorphic (or near isomorphic) concerning number and type of speech and are synonymous in terms of content.

According to http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/simile, simile is “ a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, use d to make a description more emphatic or vivid”. It is line with the definition stated in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simile that it is “a figure of speech that directly compares two different things, usually by employing the words like or as”. This defin ition is also in line with Kennedy (1991:587) who states that simile is “a comparison of two things, indicated by some connectives, usually like, as, than, or a verb such as resembles”. Moreover, Pardede (2008:22) also has the same idea and defines that “a simile is generally the comparison of two things essentially unlike, on the basis of a resemblance in one aspect. It is a figure in which a similarity between two objects directly expressed”.

THE NATURE OF THE STATE | Muchamad Ali Safa'at

THE NATURE OF THE STATE | Muchamad Ali Safa'at

and certainly Plato, Aquinas, Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke and Marx are only a few of the writers who have tackled the subject of the state. In Criminology different traditions have grown up which attribute varying attributes and motivations to the state. In order to make progress, let us outline four basic and interrelated fea- tures of a state. First, the state must have a working political organisational struc- ture. In other words, it must have a set of institutions which allow it to operate, such as the courts, a civil service and a police force. Secondly, for a state to be a working entity it has to persist in time and space, i.e. it must control a set terri- tory and survive changes in its basic organisation, as would be the case if an elec- tion altered the government. Thirdly, it must be able to support a single political form of public order and therefore it must have agency. It must be sovereign and be able to claim a monopoly of political authority, law-making and power, and it must be autonomous. Fourthly, but closely linked to the idea of the state as a single political form of public order, it must have the allegiance of its members (citizens, subjects), who are subject to its laws and who have an obligation to obey it. The political theorist John Charvet has noted that: ‘For Locke, as well as for Hobbes and Rousseau, entry into political society from the state of nature is possible only if individuals surrender their natural right of private judgement to the public judgement of the community or its agent.’ 3
