The Course Description in Brief:
This course provides an overview of translation theories, problematic issues, and translation literature by imminent theorists and researchers. It also highlights the mental and linguistic skills and competencies involved in the process of translating. The course also offers practical training in written translation of a wide spectrum of texts from Arabic to English and vice-versa.
The Course Objectives:
This course aims at introducing students to the principles, process, issues and methods of translation from Arabic into English and vice-versa. In this course, students will be exposed to different types of translation problems, its complex nature and the research skills that are needed in this field. To bridge translation theory and practice, this course also offers students with the opportunity to conduct hands-on translation of varied texts.
Contents:
1. A general overview of translation theory.
2. Types of translation.
3. Common issues in the process of translating from Arabic into English, and vice-versa.
4. Translation process and product.
5. Practical training in written translation.
The Course Outcomes:

- Students will be able to recognize and assess translation theories as they engage in the process of translation.
- Students will develop a critical awareness as to the varied translation styles and literature.

Assessment Methods:
Assessment mechanism is based on a continuous assessment of in-class performance, assignments, periodic tests, and a final exam.
