The Course Description in Brief:
This course familiarizes students with expressions and terminology used in various branches in the field of engineering, namely civil engineering, architecture, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering. It Introduces students to techniques of translating texts in this field through identifying special problems, linguistic and cultural, that face the translator. The course also highlights the sentence structure in both Arabic and English in the register of engineering. Within this course, students will learn how to use specialized dictionaries while practicing on selected texts from various branches of engineering.
The Course Objectives:
This course aims at familiarizing students with terminology in various branches of engineering, namely, civil engineering, architecture, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and chemical engineering. Hands-on translation of Arabic and English texts related to this field. The course also aims at enabling students to develop and strengthen their repertoire of engineering terminology in Arabic and their equivalent in English.
Contents:
1. Terminology in the field of engineering in Arabic and their equivalent in English
2. A study of cultural and linguistic differences that mark source and
target languages in the field of engineering
3. Practical training on selected texts in the field of engineering 4. Specialized dictionary usage.
The Course Outcomes:
Scientific Skills:
- Students will develop competence and skills in engineering terminology both in Arabic and English.
- Students will recognize the linguistic, stylistic, and cultural differences between Arabic and English in the field of engineering.
- Students will be able to use specialized dictionaries.
- Students will keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of engineering.

Assessment Methods:
Assessment mechanism is based on a continuous assessment of in-class performance, assignments, periodic tests, and a final exam.
