This workshop is organized by The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Sustainable Construction Materials & Structural Systems Research Group (SCMSS) of the Research Institute for Sciences and Engineering (RISE) at the University of Sharjah in collaboration with the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Ottawa, Canada. The workshop provides a forum where experts present and disseminate principles and practices for designing and protecting critical civilian structures against earthquakes and blasts, emphasizing reinforced concrete and steel structures. The workshop intends to serve the local community in UAE, targeting students, professionals, decision- makers, practitioners, researchers, and designers to explore the benefits of seismic and protective designs for sustainable civil engineering structures in the UAE.

The workshop covers the following areas:

Seismic Load Effects on Reinforced Concrete Structures

Seismic Design of Reinforced Concrete Buildings

Performance-Based Seismic Design of Structures

Research Progress on Seismic Design and Retrofit of Reinforced Concrete and Steel Buildings.

Principles of Blast Resistant Design and Blast Loads on Buildings

Blast Load Effects on Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Structures.

Research Progress on Design and Retrofit of Buildings Against Blast Loads

Design Standards and Design of New Buildings Against Blast Loads

Case Studies and Design Examples for Protective Design
