Introduction of the module:

This module introduces students to modern aspects of treatment, research, innovation and non-conventional methodology in medicine. This module is a unique and flexible space:

allowing students to pursue in-depth an area of medicine that is of interest to them. These selective modules have been developed by a wide range of academic staff members with different knowledge backgrounds and sub-specialties. This module can be undertaken for a whole 2 weeks as one block or could be stretched over the semester/year, based on the nature of the selective course chosen. The assessment format, the knowledge area, the activities and the medical relevance are all customized for each course by the course designer. The selective course will be chosen by the students based on their need and desire to explore a little bit more in one of the provided subjects. The selective courses may deliver by more than one staff member whenever appropriate.

Aims of the Module

The module aims to provide:

• An opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of a medically- related topic of interest

• Knowledge and understanding of how to utilize the concepts of the pathological sciences, advanced laboratory techniques or research methodology in an innovative way to tackle medical and health care problems

• Knowledge and understanding of the fundamental elements and complexity of some of the common health problems in Saudi Arabian community and the world.

• An understanding of, and practice in, application of knowledge to clinical practice

• A way in which to enhance creativity in finding solutions for health-care problems including tackling problems through multi-disciplinary team work

• An understanding of the latest non-conventional or alternative medicine in medical field.

Students Registration Process

Before you register:

1. Meet with course instructor “meeting with courses instructors will be announced through week 10 of the first semester in “Elective Courses Recruiting Day” each course author will present course objectives/ methodology/assessment.

2. Registration opens in week 11 of the first semester for five working days.

3. Review your registration request form “be sure to select your course preferences as no changes can be done after registration is submitted.

4. Review if any perquisites are needed to apply for the course.

5. Be sure of the course registration deadlines. Please remember your elective course calendar

a.1st semester (week 10): “Elective Course Recruiting Day”

b.1st semester (week 10): On-line registration opens c.1st semester (week 11): Registration closes

How to register:

1.Go to UQU.D2L/electives/registration 2.Submit your registration request.

After you’ve registered:

1.Enrollment results will be declared immediately.
