Everyone mourns the passing of beloved Lt Col Mohajane
BRITS – MOOINOOI - It is with great sadness that the Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lt Gen Sello Kwena, learnt of the alleged murder of a 55-year-old Lt Col Lekone Morris Mohajane who was the Detective Branch Commander at Mooinooi police station.
He was allegedly shot and killed during a hijacking incident on Sunday, 4 June at his house in Hammanskraal, Gauteng.
The Provincial Commissioner visited the Mohajane family on Monday, 5 June 2023, and on behalf of the provincial management, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family,
friends and colleagues of the Colonel, who was a seasoned police officer with 33 years of loyal service. He said that the passing on of the selfless and dedicated Lt Col Mohajane came at the crucial time of intensifying the fight against criminality, in which he played a crucial role.
Lt Gen Kwena condemned the killing of police officers, which he said is tantamount to undermining the authority of the state and taking away one of the much-needed resources from the community, thus affecting service delivery. He indicated that resources have been mobilised to ensure that those who are behind this evil deed, are brought to book to face the full might of the law.

BRITS POS – ELANDSRAND - The community of Elandsrand was called up by DA Cllr Eugene van der Schyff to lend a hand in keeping Elandsrand safe during a planned interruption of electricity supply by Madibeng Local Municipality from midnight, Friday 2 June to Sunday, 4 June at 16:00, in collaboration with Elandsrand Men’s Forum, which played a pivotal role.
Hands were joined and zero crime was reported during the whole period.

together in order for us to help ourselves,”
says Van der Schyff, “and the response was simply overwhelming. YOU proved that we
can stand together as one. BRITS POS – MIDRAND - The N1 highway between the Samrand interchange and the Rooihuiskraal interchange, in Midrand, will experience partial road closures this weekend, June 10 and 11 to allow Eskom to perform essential work necessary to install new overhead transmission power lines and a conductor that supplies electricity to the area, according to the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL).
The partial road closures will start on Saturday, June 10, from 06:00 to 18:00, and Sunday, June 11, from 06:00 to 12:00. The lanes will be closed in stages of approximately 30minutes, however, complete closure will be required when cables cross the N1.
Motorists will be diverted via the R101 and it will be signposted. Both Johannesburg and Tshwane Metropolitan Police Departments will be in attendance to manage traffic and ensure minimal disruptions. The closures may need to be adjusted depending on weather conditions on the day. Sanral warns that these partial closures may introduce disruptions to the normal travel times for

BRITS POS – BRITS - As a constable was waiting for his girlfriend to return from work at an intersection in Maboloka on Thursday, 1 June around 19:45 in his Toyota Hilux bakkie, someone knocked on the window, held him at gunpoint and instructed him to unlock the doors of the bakkie.
The victim responded to the command and unlocked the doors. The armed suspect moved in behind the steering wheel and the other two suspects also got into the vehicle.
When the driver drove off, the victim grabbed the steering wheel and turned it in the direction of oncoming traffic and one of the suspects fired a shot between the victim’s legs and another shot was discharged to the outside of the bakkie.
At bushes near Klipgat, the victim was body searched and the suspects took his service pistol, live rounds of ammunition, cellphone, cash and bank cards for which they demanded pin numbers.
The victim was tied up with his shoelaces and two suspects kept guard while one drove off in his bakkie. After cellphone communication between the suspects, the victim was released and told to run. At a nearby house, he was assisted to report it to Klipgat SAPS.
Cases of carjacking and kidnapping were opened at Letlhabile police station. “The victim’s vehicle was found abandoned at Klipgat,” says Maria Nkabinde, spokesperson SAPS Brits, “and no arrest has yet been made.” Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Investigating Officer Lt Col Jacob Sechele of Rustenburg Vehicle Crimes Investigation unit (VCIU) on 082 665 3015.

BRITS POS – DE WILDT - A motorist was driving from Brits to Kgabalatsane on the R566 on Tuesday, 30 May around 17:00 when he checked the tyres on his Corsa bakkie and found one with what appeared to be a slow puncture. At the Alfa crossing south of Brits, he was unable to find a business who could assist with repairs.
When he arrived at De Wildt, he pulled off the road to check the tyre again, when all a sudden two men approached him, of which one was armed. He was held at gunpoint and instructed to get back behind the steering wheel and to turn back on the road and he then had to turn off at a gravel road and drive to a bushy area where another three males were awaiting their arrival. The victim was beaten up and body searched. They took cash, a laptop, cellphones, a toolbox and his bank card and tied him up. He also had to give his bank pin number to
the thugs and they all left in his bakkie. He managed to untie himself and made it to the tar road where police found him. Whilst opening a case docket of carjacking, information was received that the vehicle was found in Pretoria. “At this stage the suspects are still at large,”

Learner robbed on his way to school
BRITS POS – HARTBEESPOORT - When the mother of a 17-year-old boy returned home from work, she asked her son why he hadn’t call her as per their mutual agreement.
He then told his mom that he was waiting for a taxi to go to school around 07:00, on Thursday, 1 June, when a green Fiat stopped and he asked the driver who had been accompanied by three passengers for a lift. When the learner wanted to pay, the passenger next to him held him at gunpoint, took his cellphone and iPhone and the victim was dropped off on the side of the road. The victim wasn’t injured and no shot was fired. An armed robbery case was opened at Hartbeespoortdam police station. “The suspects are still at large,” says SAPS spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde. BRITS POS – LETLAHBILE – On Wednesday, 31 May, just before midnight, SAPS Visible Police (VISPOL) based at the Letlhabile police station and tasked with crime prevention duties, received information that a man (28) has been assaulted by community members with sticks and stones, allegedly when breaking into a local doctor’s surgery in Letlhabile.
When police arrived at the scene, the suspect was found with multiple injuries and taken to the Letlhabile Clinic, but died as he was receiving medical treatment. A case of murder was opened at the Letlhabile police station. “Suspects are not yet apprehended at this stage,” says SAPS spokesperson, Maria Nkabinde.

Drug manufacturer found with 4000 Ecstasy tablets
The suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from robbery aggravating, murder, rape, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, possession and dealing in drugs to illegal dealing in liquor.
In one of the operations in Mmakau on Thursday afternoon, 1 June, Riaan Spies (32) was apprehended at Skietfontein smallholding in De Wildt near Brits, for possession and dealing in drugs.
The accused was arrested during a multidisciplinary and crime intelligence
driven operation after the team executed a search warrant. During the search at the accused’s place, the team discovered drug manufacturing equipment as well as chemicals used to manufacture drugs and approximately 4000 ecstasy tablets, computer equipment and a tablet gadget.
The accused was remanded in custody
upon appearance before the Brits
Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 2 June
2023. He is expected to reappear before
the same court on Friday, 9 June 2023,
for formal bail application.

Die gebruik van palmskedes het goeie lyne verskaf en saam met gekrulde takke en balle is verskillende vorms en spasies ingesluit.
Die jongste deelnemer tydens die opedag was Michaela Piater, ‘n gr.3-leerling van Laerskool Brits, wat ‘n versameling van goggas van plantmateriaal gemaak het.

Fifteen years imprisonment for GBV violence related murder
BRITS POS – MABOLOKA - The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lt Gen Sello Kwena welcomed the fifteen years direct imprisonment handed down to a 44-year-old murderer, Ishmael Mofolo by the North Gauteng High Court sitting in Pretoria on Thursday, 1 June 2023.
Mofolo was sentenced in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Florence Bongo (43), at Checkers Section, Maboloka Village near Brits. Evidence was led in court that on Thursday, 04 April 2022, the convict was called by his brother who wanted to find out the reason why he (the convict) and his girlfriend failed to arrive at Letlhabile Mall as agreed.
In his response, he told his brother that he did something
terrible and hung up the phone.
The brother together with his sister went to their parental residence where the accused was residing.
Upon arrival, they knocked at the door, but there was no response. They then forced the door open and found Bongo’s lifeless body inside the house, covered with blood. It was established that Mofolo drank poison in an attempt to commit suicide. The police were called
to the crime scene and Mofolo was apprehended and transported to the local hospital where he was placed under police guard. After appearing in court, he was granted bail which was withdrawn after being found guilty.
Lt Gen Kwena applauded the Investigating Officer, Detective Sgt Julius Nkgoeng from Letlhabile Detectives and all other role players including prosecution for their excellent collaboration which he said will send a stern warning that those who perpetrate Gender-Based Violence and Femicide will be dealt with effectively by law.

BRITS POS – BUFFELSPOORT - Charles Soza (Woodlands, Pretoria East) and Roné Reynecke (Rustenburg) showed their competitors a clean pair of heels at the iconic Fedhealth Platinum Trail Run that took place at the ATKV Buffelspoort on Sunday, 04 June 2023. Soza claimed victory in the Long Route (+-24km) in a deserving time of 01 hour 27 minutes 48 seconds, while Reynecke impressed with her time of 1 hour 43 minutes 54 seconds.

Swimmers excel at SA Lifesaving Championships
Fun is the

Maria Vicente dos Santos, Tamica Visser, Xanthé Nagel and Lerato Molobye are the swimmers of Mountain Cambridge School who represented the North West team at the Inter-Provincial Lifesaving SA Championships in Durban recently.
The much anticipated gr.R an Pre-Primary Family Sports day of Mountain Cambridge School (MCS), took place last Saturday, and it was a huge success. The learners showed off their Learn2Move-skills by taking part in shot put, long jump, sprints and javelin throw events. The younger learners did an obstacle course and a rice run with moms and dads in tow. These gr.R-learners, Carolina Bailey, Rocci Borrageiro, Gerik Theron and River Evans took a break after an exciting race. Memories were made and fun was had by all, because MCS parents and teachers know that Walt Whitman had a point when he said: “Do anything, but let it produce joy.”
