Jewish National Fund.

BENO NI.

An " At Home " was held under the auspice of the Women's Zionist League, at the residence of Mrs. J. F1edman, which realised the sum of £7 7s. Od. Special mention must be made of a donation of £2 made by Mrs. J. M. Levy, of West- dene.

HEIDELBERG (CAPE).

A very succe sful dance was held on the 23rd July in ~he local Town Hall, in aid of the Jewish National Fund, which yielded a nett profit of £24 9s. 6d., of which £20 is being devoted towards the inscription of the Society in the special Balfour Volume of the Golden Book.

During the evening a beautiful bottle of scent, kindly donated by Mrs. Sandler, was sold by American auction and reali ed the amount of £1 14s. 3d., which was bought in by Mr.

Aby Hyman, of Riversdale. Mrs. Friedman sold novelty caps which brought in the amount of £1 l 7s. 8d.

Special mention must be made of the Organisers of the function, Mesdames Marcus Friedman and Sandler, to whose untiring efforts the success of the function was largely due.

Thanks are also due to Mr. Boet Gordon, of Riversdale, who loaned his car for the purpose of bringing over the musicians, and to Messrn. Meyer Maltz and S. Levin the two talented violinists, who delighted the audience with' their playing. The community also desfre to tender their grateful thanks to the municipality who kindly loaned the hall free of charge.

LADYBRAND.

The Jewish National Fund headquarters in Johannesburg gratefully acknowledges the receipt of £8 16s. 9d. from Lady- brand. £6 is in respect of trees sold on the occasion of the Herzl Jahrzeit, whil t £2 16s. 9d. was cleared from nine National Fund boxes.

THEUNI' E .

One of the mo t successful functions in the annals of the Theunissen Zionist Society was held on Sunday, August 10th, at the Theunis en Hotel, in the form of a Hat Debate and Social. The Hat Debate caused much amusement as fines were mtlicted on people who refused to speak and on those who spoke too much or too little.

_During the evenin8· a chine e corne1· vase, presented by the Cha~rman, Dr. Bernstem, was put up for American auction and i·ealised the fine sui;n of £10. The vase was bought in by Mr. R.

Strau . , who gave it to the Society, who in turn presented it to Mr. J. Ro enberg as a mark of esteem on the occasion of his impending marria~e to Miss Bloch, of Johannesburg. A raffle was also drawn m the course of the evening which realised the amount of £5.

A number of musical items of Zionist character were ren- dered by Mr. Chazan.

. The even~g co?cluded with the Chairman thanking the ladie for havmg kmdly provided the refreshments and the com1:nittee and all those pre ent for their unstinted' support in helpmg to place the name of the Theunissen Zionists for all time in the pages of the Balfour Golden Book.
