·wmrn.T· · Z10N1 T LEAGUE.
The :Murch literary meeting of the League once again proved the e~treme J?Opularity of these gathe~
ing . ~fore than ixty ladies assembled at the resi- dence of 1\Ir...,. Davidoff, Mitchell Street, Berea, to Ji , ten to Dr. :S. Harte'::< intere ting addres on " The Mi. sion of the Jewish Woman." 'l'he lecturer won the sympath;v of hL audience by the modesty as wep
a:-:. by th intelligence '''ith which he expounded . h1 ·
-·ubje t. He had evidently given some ser10u thought to the problem, and was unaffectedly anxious for the J ewi h \'..ife and mother to realise the great

,_Ir . J. L. Landau presided over the meeting and .ioined in the di c1i._ ion that followed, other speakers including \Ie~damt•s 'i.-c, Glick. Hirsch and .Jacob 011,

president of the outh African Zioni ~t Federation, and a a result donations amounting to some £70 were mcle by those present ah the gathering. This note·
worthy action by Mr. Reeb js one which we hope will be emulated by many other Zionists on similar occasions.
We regret that in. the report in our last i ue

We are glad to note, however, thnt Zioni t work in this large Jewish centre has now been re urned on an active scale, t.he hekel, National Fund boxes, membership canvass, etc., all having heen energeti- c all~' taken in hand.

Miss F. Waldman has been appointed hon. secre- tary of the local Zioni t Society in place of Miss Ada.
Levin, who has resigned owing to having to pursut>
her mu ical studies. l\fiss Levin held office for ten month , dming ,which time the society made splendid progre"'s. At a meeting on the 8th inst., at which the election 0£ a new secretary was made, apprecia- ti Ye reference was made both by the President and by Mr. N. Baker to Miss Levin's invaluable services, and rngret was expressed that the society had to lose her enthusiastic and energetic work. J\1iss Levin, in reRponse, said that her work had been a labour of love, and that although she wa noK for the time being
~eYering her connection with the ociety, she would continue to take a keen interest in all its undertakings.
nnd would always be ready to r nder any as-·i. tance po _ible.

::\fr. Herb tein contrasted the sorry position of Jewry twenty-five years ago with the new spirit of national pride and independence which to-day per- ntded the Jewish people. Nordau and Trumpeldor, each in himself, typified a. special phase of the Zionist
~no ement. To each the J ·wish people was gratefully mdebted. Mr. Herbstein concluded with a aeneral
~unr y of the pre ·ent position and future posiliilitie of the .~ewish people.
l\Ir.
