Cape Zionist Youth Executive

The fifth Annual Country and Tom1 Parliament arranged by the . Country Sub- Committee of the abo\e Executive took place at Paarl on Saturday and Sundav. the Hth and 15th September. .

On Saturday night delegates and visitors.

who had assembled from all parts of the Western Province, were welcomed in the Talmud Torah Hall by leading members of the Paarl Jewish community. After the addresses a concert \\as staged bv members of the Cape Town and Paarl Hahonim and Habonot. The concert was a departure from the usual routine of holdjng a propa- ganda meeting on the first night of Parlia- ment, and pro\ed to he most successful. The r.oncert was thorou~hly enjoyed by the very large audience present.

The Prime Minister was Mr. S. M. Levin, while leaders of the Opposition and Inde- pendents were Mr. M. Rabinowitz and l\Ir.

<ipeech from the Throne then took place until the House adjourned at 12.30 p.m. for luncheon.

An official luncheon to delegates took place in the Tolmud Torah Hall. The convenor of the Country Sub-Committee of the Cape Zionist Youth Executive, Mr. S. L. Gross, acted as chairman at this luncheon. After lunch, Mr. Gross proposed the toast of the King, Eretz Israel and the Jewish Nation.

The toast was responded to by the audience.

Councillor D. Nelson then delivered a short speech, at the conclusion of which he pro- posed a toast to the Zionist Youth Move- ment~ which toast was replied to by Mr. C.

K. Friedlander. Toast were also proposed by Mr. S. M. Levin to the Paarl Hebrew Congregation and replied to by the Rev. H.

Strelitz: Mr. A. J. Volks to the Governor- General. and replied to by Mr. E. J. Hor- 'Vitz; Miss F. Gros<; to the Paarl Ladies' Benevolent Society, and replied to by Mrs.

Futeran; and Mr. S. Meyers to the Paarl Junior Zionist Society, and replied to by

The luncheon concluded with the saying of grace, conducted by Rev. H. Strelitz.

A photo~raph was then taken of delegates and officials of Parliament.

After this, the House sat again, and the Clelil'lte on the King's speech continued until 6.30 p.m. when proceedings concluded with a summing up hv the Prime Minister and a reply by the leader of the Opposition. A vote on the motion of "no confidence" in

the Government was then taken and was carried by a small majority.

Children's Concert.

A very fine childrrn's concert will take place at the Sea Point Town Hall on Friday afternoon, ] 1th October, in aid of the Jewish National Fund. The entertain·

ment is being provided by the pupils of

The ne.·t of the winter series of lecture will be given to-morrow (Saturday) night when 'VIr. E. Atkinson of the S.A.C. . Junior School will lecture on "Mud House Wasps and Social Wasps."

Continental Ball.

The Continental Ball in aid of the United Appeal for Polish Jewry to be held to- morrow night at the Hotel Avalon (for- merly City Mansions Hotel), Hope Street, promises to be a great success. The arrange- ments are in the hands of a very capable and energetic Committee who are doing their nlmost to provide numerous attractions which include novelty dances, exhibition dances, etc. Valuable prizes will be awarded. Felix de Cola's orchestra will provide the music and the scheme of decorations will be dis- tinct! y original.

The Beth-Din hereby notifies the Jewish public that only butcheries who comply with the following regulations, namely:-

{a) Keep Kosher meat only,

( b) Are closed on Saturdays according to our religious laws, and

(c) Are visited by a Masgiach or the Board of Shechita,

are under the control and supervision of the Beth-Din.

All other butcheries, even those advertising Kosher or who have the word "Kosher'' on their premises are not under the super- vision of the Board of Shechita, and the Beth-Din is not responsible for the Kashruth of the meat sold in them.
