In connection with the recent report that Rabbi I. Herzog, Chief Rabbi of Palestine, ha<l in effect given a permit for war-work to be clone ou Sabbath, Rabbi Meir Berlin while in South Africa. cabled to the Chief Rabbi asking him v;hether there was any truth in this report. He has received the following reply:-

Rabbi Meir Berlin states that as far as he recollects a Government official had asked if c rtain \Var-work could be clone on the Sabbath, nnd the Chief Rabbi bad ad- vised him that it was possible to work more homs during the week but not to desecrate the Sabbath.
