“New leadership needed”

MADIBENG DA FILES MOTION OF NO CONFIDENCE AGAINST MADIBENG MAYOR JUSTINA MOTHIBE

BRITS POS – BRITS - “The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Madibeng has ﬁ led a Motion of No Conﬁ dence (MONC) against the Executive Mayor, Justina Mothibe, which will be tabled at the next General Council meeting,” says DA Caucus Leader – Madibeng Local Municipality, Cllr Jan van Rhyn.

‘This motion follows the Mayor’s failure to provide leadership and oversight within the municipality leading to a collapse in service delivery, corruption and mismanagement going unabated, the municipality has been getting adverse qualifi ed audit opinions for four consecutive fi nancial years. The date for the meeting will be confi rmed as the newly appointed Administrator and his team fi rst need to start with their duties and no council meetings can be held until such a time.

“Madibeng needs new leadership that will fi ght corruption, hire fi t for purpose individuals across departments and restore service delivery,” says Van Rhyn. Madibeng is in shambles due to a lack of maintenance to the infrastructure; roads are fi lled with potholes, broken streetlights are never fi xed, refuse is not collected as the contractor hired refuses to work due to non-payment.

There are continuous water interruptions which leave residents without water for days and sometimes weeks. The industrial areas also spend days without electricity which aﬀ ects operations and productivity leading to a loss of money for companies. “The municipality has been plagued by corruption and mismanagement,

from their ill-advised investment in VBS to municipal oﬃ cials using the municipality’s bank account to pay for their personal DSTV and clothing accounts. To date, no one has been charged or held accountable.

The Mayor has shown a total lack of will to root out corruption, improve service delivery or serve the interest of the community of Madibeng.

“In 2019, Mayor Mothibe was recalled by the ANC but she refused to vacate her position, showing a total disregard to be held accountable for her failures as Mayor,” says Van Rhyn.

The DA will start lobbying all councillors to put aside political diﬀ erences and put the community of Madibeng ﬁ rst by voting out the Mayor from her position.

BRITS POS – BRITS - The 46-year-old Mutemba Aniceto Patricio appeared in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 17 August 2020, on ﬁ ve charges of burglary residential and six charges of theft of motor vehicle.

The accused’s court appearance stems from his arrest on Friday, 14 August 2020, at Schoemansville, Hartbeespoort after the investigation team made a follow-up on a tip-oﬀ from members of the community. The accused has since been positively linked through ﬁ ngerprints with cases of burglary residential and theft of motor vehicles which were committed between 2005 and 2009 in and around

Hartbeespoort.

The accused was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Monday, 31 August 2020 for a formal bail application. Investigation into the matter continues. The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the investigation team for the success which he said will send a message that crime does not pay.

Level 2 lockdown in full swing

BRITS POS - BRITS - While government continues to ease lockdown restrictions, the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) has urged the public to be vigilant and stick to the health protocols.

Mark Munroe, CEO of Impala’s Rustenburg mining operations, appeared in the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court held in Tlhabane, Rustenburg, on 17 August 2020, in a representative capacity on behalf of Impala, in respect of the abovementioned

charges. All criminal charges in the matter against Impala as represented by Mark Munroe have been withdrawn. Implats and its subsidiaries

continue to prioritise and advance global best practise measures to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. These include amongst other measures, operating in full compliance with all relevant statutory requirements applicable to the jurisdictions where we operate. “We continue to collaborate and engage with all key stakeholders in this regard,” said a spokesperson in a statement. Implats reiterates its

support for Mark Munroe and its management teams, who will continue to undertake all operations in a legally compliant

and responsible manner.

“Die projek was geoormerk om Maart/April 2020 voltooi te wees,” sê Hennie Kotze, SANRAL Projekingenieur:

“Voorsiening is gemaak vir die gebruik van plaaslike arbeid asook geteikende sub- kontrakteurs in terme van die regering en SANRAL se beleid oor voorkeurverkryging (preferential procurement), wat jeugdiges en vroue in die mark bevoordeel.”

BRITS POS – BRITS – Die muurbalbane by Brits Sportgronde het weer Dinsdag, 18 Augustus 2020 hulle deure na vier maande wyd oopgemaak en kon spel weer hervat word.

“COVID-19 het verhinder dat nuwe lede kon aansluit en die klub se finansies is daardeur geraak,”

sê pastoor André van Staden, voorsitter van die Brits Amateur Muurbalklub.

“Saam met die bestuur is die bane gedurende hierdie tyd weer opgegradeer en speelbaar gemaak.

Die beskikbare ledegeld, individuele skenkings en die bydrae van besighede soos Buco en Glasfit en het alles tot die sukses bygedra,” vertel Van Staden.

Bestuurslede het self die ligte vervang wat gedeeltelik uit die fondse van die klub aangekoop is. ‘n Groot dankie aan die Madibeng Plaaslike Munisipaliteit wat die dak herstel het sodat die verfproses kon plaasvind.

“Ons is nog nie klaar nie en is daar nog ‘n paar projekte in die pyplyn. Ons nooi alle oud-lede

sowel as alle belangstellendes om by ons te kom aansluit.
