This is the first of many wheels of the industry. it's a bike that brings meaning and purpose to the everyday lives of people everywhere - on farms, in factories, in the hustle and bustle. cities and in remote places. It is a wheel that steadily moves forward, opening up new horizons of opportunity and safeguarding the results of past efforts. It is a symbol of railway transport, a fundamental factor in the achievements of the past, an essential necessity in the vibrant entrepreneurship of the future.

Columbian Presbyterian Medical Center, New York City, which occupies the area between Broadway and Riv1erside Drive and 165th and 168th Streets. It has four main units: the Columbia University Medical and Dental Group, the Presbyterian Hospital Group, Baby's Hospital in the City of New York, and the Neurological Institute of New York; N,ew York State'e Psychiatric Institute and Hospital is not affiliated with, but adjacent to, the group. It houses: a research institute that studies the human conditions of living in the strato.

The close relationship between the clinic and the laboratory in medical schools led to the discovery of the causes of many infectious diseases. The hospital and the clinic provide valuable services to each other - the hospital does not provide laboratory equipment, specially trained staff and special apparatus, while the clinic cares for patients who are discharged from the hospital, refers patients who need bed care to the hospital, and maintains valuable.

ATTERIDGEVILLE

NATIVE TOWNSHIP, PRETORIA

BY THE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE, CITY COUNCIL

Drawn by To wnp anmng Section 1 . from the Cit Pretoria.) E. Digitized by the Open Scholarship & Digitalization Programme, University of Pretoria, 2016. These facilities provided by the City Council are highly appreciated by the residents who make full use of them. It has appointed physical education instructors and sports organizers who are full-time salaried municipal officials and members of the Indigenous Administration Department.

The site plan is based on a simple geometric pattern adapted to the contours of the site. The average cost of houses built at post-war costs is over £500 per house and this figure has only been kept so low as a result of the extremely good work done in this regard by the City Engineering Department. On the other hand, if the Council were to consider raising rents, the rents would exceed the earning capacity of the average native.

The manager of the Indigenous and Asian Administration department said in a recent report that annual expenditure in terms of the formula would be £59,000 or 10 percent. With regard to the first three items the formula was fair, but with regard to administration (including usual services) it was unfair as the actual expenditure.J. The actual annual expenditure on administration, defined in terms of the National Housing Fund formula, would therefore be 5.573 percent.

In addition to paying its share of the losses in terms of the formula, the Council would lose £15,184, which was in effect expenditure over and above the £17,700 allowed. It was clear, therefore, that to comply with the general sociological formula that rents should not exceed one-sixth of the head of the household's income, rents could not go much above £1.6. As one step towards halting these mounting losses, the council has decided that upon the completion of the current phase of Atteridgeville's development, i.e. when approximately 1,530 houses have been completed, no more houses will be built on this site built. basic, but that every effort should be made to find a solution to this problem.

Until b:::en worked out the final details of this scheme and communicated them to the city audience. An analysis of the Minister's statement by the Assistant Director of the Department of Indigenous and Asian Administration shows that the new formula outlined by the Minister is actually very little different from the National Housing Fund formula. The essence of the native housing problem may be briefly summarized as follows: The hygienic housing of non-Europeans in urban areas on a sub-economic basis places too heavy a burden on European taxpayers and employers to subsidize such schemes.

MAIN LINES FROM THE COAST

REGRADING OF CAPE MIDLAND AND CAPE EASTERN LINES

Bushman River, over a mountain range in the Little Fish River valley and then across the divide into the Big Fish River valley. The work will be under the supervision of a Resident Engineer, whose headquarters will be located at Cradock, with a branch office at Cookhouse. At this stage it is impossible to estimate the likely rate of progress of the work, as this will depend heavily on the availability of technical personnel and equipment, both of which are currently in short supply.

Work on the Cape Eastern main line from East London, another major construction operation undertaken by the railways to provide better rail communication between the Union's seaports and the hinterland, has reached a stage where the most difficult section between East London and Queenstown, a distance of 153 miles, is fast approaching its end. The deviations carried out in this section have been responsible for the elimination of no less than sixty-three complete circles of curvature. Although work on the realignment and realignment of this line was begun before the war, little progress was made.

The Amabele-Dohne section was opened in August 1942, but the next section - between Waku and Tylden - was not opened to traffic until five years later. The work includes extensive diversions, new bridges, embankments and culverts, and includes no fewer than thirteen tunnels, the longest of which — that at Hobbs Hill — is about 3,200 feet long. The total cost of reconstructing the entire section from East London to Queenstown is approximately £3,400,000.

Work has so far been concentrated on the southern section, and on the 52-mile stretch between Dohne and Goschen, where the country is particularly hilly, all culverts, bridges, diversions and embankments have been completed, and the houses for the staff are almost ready for occupation. The Dohne-Gaika section will be opened this month, while the one between Gaika and Goschen is just waiting for the material for fences, pipes and other accessories, upon receipt of which the whole section will be opened. Work on the four miles between Goschen and Waku and the 10-mile section between Tylden and Imvani is being pushed forward and the earthworks on these sections are nearly complete.
