SRC COUNCIL MEETING

DATE: 15 AUGUST 2023 TIME: 18H30 VENUE: RA ROOM

2023.35.01 Welcome & Attendance

-Present

2023.35.02 Leave of Absences

2023.35.03 Confirmation of Minutes

-The previous minutes were confirmed with amendments. Ms Media confirmed them, and Mr Sports and Societies seconded the confirmation.

2023.35.04 Declaration of Conflict

-There was no conflict declared.

2023.35.05 Matters Arising

2023.35.5.1 Leadership Week

-The Council would send out letters of gratitude to the various speakers, sponsors, families, and stakeholders that made Leadership Week a success.

-All the Councillors that headed the different teams have to revert to their teams so that they could consolidate the proceedings of their day and send the report to Ms Vice President.

-A statement for Leadership Week and Intervarsity would be sent out tomorrow at 1 pm.

2023.35.5.2 Intervarsity

-Mr Sports and Societies apprised the Council of the Intervarsity Campus Parade that will be taking place on Thursday during lunchtime.

-The SRC has to advertise the parade.

-The Council assented that they would only give away a maximum of 50 Steers vouchers.

2023.35.06 Africa Ball

-Ms International Affairs went through the Africa Ball proposal with the Council.

-Marketing for the Ball would be sent out before the 25th of August.

-Ms International Affairs was asked to draw up the delegation list as soon as possible.

-The Council noted that the event clashes with the Oppidan Committee event, and so they would negotiate with the Committee to consider changing their date.

-This agenda item would be put as a standing one.

-Ms Media asked the Council to send her deadlines for posters.

2023.35.07 Sol Plaatjie University

-The Council was informed of the email that came from Sol Plaatjie University that asked for support as their students got arrested.

-The Council agreed that they would send an email of solidarity after they have verified what took place.

2023.35.08 Housekeeping

-Mr Secretary-General informed the Council that the term reports are due on Sunday, 20th of

August at 17h00.

-Mr Residence asked that the Thuma Mina Report got sent to him on the 20th of August.

2023.35.09 Other Matters for the Agenda

-Student Parliament

-The Council would send out a firm response to the Student Parliament informing them that the SRC only submits one report.

-Open letter to Mr Dawie

-The Council agreed to have a meeting with Mr Dawie and include the University’s Senior Management.

-An email calling for the meeting would be sent out tomorrow and be scheduled for Friday before the Senate’s meeting.

-Way forward for Coinvest

-The Council agreed on an interim solution of trying to get toiletries from Checkers to be distributed to students on Purple Thursday of the 31st of August.

-The Council would send out a letter to all other Eastern Cape SRCs and MEC on the 18th of August regarding the NSFAS issue.

-The Council agreed on going to the State House in Bisho and proposed the 1st of September to go there.

-The Councillors that were suggested to work on the letters were Ms International Affairs, Mr Secretary-General, Mr Student Benefits and Sponsorships, Ms Vice President, Ms Academics, and Ms Postgraduate Affairs.

2023.35.10 Date for Next Meeting -The Chair adjourned the meeting.

-The date for the next meeting will be confirmed and the venue will be the RA Room.
