The Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) Hydrological Monitoring and Forecast- ing System said water capacity at Vaal Dam has shown substantial decrease on Saturday Februa- ry 25, and closed two more sluice gates. The first two gates were closed on Friday afternoon Feb- ruary 24.
According to a statement by DWS, water lev- els at Bloemhof Dam are also demonstrating de- cline and the water discharge was reduced over the weekend.
In the Orange River, the Gariep Dam is also sitting at around 111,25%, and the releases into
the Orange river, upstream of Vanderkloof dam is 1471m3/s. At the Vanderkloof dam, water le- vels are at 110% and outflow releases are 1570m3/s.
Communities at the Lower Orange and Lower Vaal Rivers are urged to remain vigilant and continue to exercise caution as the river levels remain high.
The Department continues to closely monitor the water flow in the affected rivers and dams, and urge communities to remain alert, avoid crossing low lying bridges, overflowing rivers and streams, and to evacuate where necessary if residing near these water courses that are over- flowing.

die onkruid se verskyning, word daar waarskynlik met die verskyning van elke boek in die formaat, minstens ‘n paar sugte geslaak. Alweer. Nog een.
Wat is nuut?
Die antwoord ten opsigte van hierdie spesifieke publikasie is in die subtitel te vinde: ‘Wees die verskil.’ In plaas van om bladsye riglyne, beproefde resepte, voorskrifte en reëls neer te lê, takel die skrywer die dilemma van oorlewing in Suid-Afrika kaalvuis deur middel van ‘show-
ing’ eerder as ‘telling’. Die inherente boodskap is: kom ons doen meer as oorleef; kom ons floreer; vind inspirasie in wat andere reeds gedoen en bereik het om daardeur jou eie pad te vind.
Van Heerden deel egter nie net suksesstories nie; hy spaar homself glad nie wat foute, verleen- theid en sosiale blapse betref nie en skryf deurgaans oor sy ervarings met deernis, humor en selfspot.
Verskeie aspekte van versoening word aangeraak, maar wat uitstaan, is die beklemtoning van menswaar- digheid en respek. In die woorde van ‘n ontvanger daarvan: ‘It’s something we sense in a second by how someone looks at us.’ (85)
Kla en skinder word ontbloot as onhulpvaardige ego-uitinge en die oproep om die tradisionele bereid- heid tot diversiteit te vervang met ‘n opregte geniet van verskeidenheid, weerklink telkens in die subteks.
Vooroordeel word aan die lig gebring; assosiasies met humor verkeerd bewys, en stereotipes word omge- keer. Ook telkens die waarskuwing om nooit toe te laat dat politici (na verwys as ‘die narre op die nuus’
- 116) of belangegroepe hartseer gebruik om hulle eie agendas te dryf nie.
Die bespreking van kos en eet as brugboutegniek, was besonder insiggewend. Nie almal kan sokker of netbal speel nie, sommige van ons ‘…voel soos ‘n volstruis en lyk soos ‘n kameelperd’ (125) indien ons dit sou probeer. Daarvan gepraat: moet vir geen oomblik dink dat die druknaam van Lux Verbi op ‘n gepreek dui nie;
die skrywer bely dat hy hom dikwels vir die kerk en groot dele van die Christelike gemeenskap skaam, maar toegewy bly aan Jesus, beide wat persoon en idees betref, en nooi lesers: ‘As jy dus anders as ek glo, lees maar asof dit ‘n antropologiese interessantheid is.’ (29)
Sy ontberinge noord van Suid-Afrika word met ‘n goeie skeut humor aangebied: hy moes al op brood sit, eerder as dit eet, omdat die grond so hard was; muskiete doodslaan wat soveel in getal was dat hy hulle lyke in rye van 10 gepak het, en is al beboet omdat sy donkerbril te donker en sy bakkie te vuil was.
Dis plek-plek ‘n ongemaklike lees en die leser moet waak teen die opwelling van weerstand of die instink tot selfregverdiging om ook op die ou end te kan besef dat jou gemaksones soms in vlamme moet opgaan sodat jy kan ervaar hoe interaksie wel soms jou ore kan seermaak, maar terselfdertyd jou hart genees.

On paper the company looked almost too good to be true - promising to turn
the mines into a new business that would offer stellar benefits to workers, while also expanding into Africa. Soon after the acquisi- tion, the first cracks appeared. More than 5 000 workers and sup- pliers, who depended on their employment to keep themselves and their families alive, went unpaid.
Over the next few years, Aurora-managed mines were stripped of assets, as illicit payments went to the families of the “con- nected”, while workers starved. Despite a litany of evidence of Aurora’s dishonesty, to this day little has been done to bring the perpetrators to book.

Die tronk bied hulle genoeg tyd om aan ’n duisend maniere te dink hoe om hul wraakgedagtes suksesvol uit te voer, sonder om weer gevang te word.
Van die mans voltrek die doodsvonnis sodra hulle vrygelaat word.
Jeffrey Deaver delf in dié tema in die vierde boek in die Colter Shaw-reeks, Hunting Time.
In ’n neutedop: Allison Parker is verantwoordelik dat haar eks-man,
Jon Merritt, tronk toe is. Wat sy nie weet nie,
is dat geen gevangene sy hele vonnis uitdien nie. Parool is altyd vir die slagoffers onverwags. In haar geval waarsku haar regsverteenwoordi- ger haar dat Merritt haar wil vermoor. Sy moet pak en vlug.
Shaw word gehuur om haar te beskerm. Gaan hy haar opspoor voor Merrit? Merrit is immers ’n oud-speurder wat weet hoe om mense te jag.
Die skrywer stel gewoonlik sy plot soos ’n ervare bombouer saam - die een lokval na die ander. Dit is nie net Merritt en Shaw wat op haar spoor is nie, maar ook twee professionele huurmoordenaars. In sy bundel kortverhale, More Twisted, verduidelik Deaver hoe hy vrees in sy skryfwerk aanwend. Een van sy vyf metodes is die vrees vir die onbekende. Nie Parker of die leser weet wat volgende gaan gebeur nie.
Om die lesers se hart nog vinniger te laat klop, weef Deaver van sy ander bangmaak metodes ook in. Hunting Time is ’n adrenalien gedrewe kat en muis spel en kenmerkend aan die skrywer, vol kitsdui- wels.
Hy breek egter nie die twee goue reëls met die skryf van vrees in boeke nie. Sy karakters (daarom die leser) moet iets belangrik hê om te verloor. Nie net Parker se lewe is op die spel nie, maar ook haar tienerdogter s’n. Tweedens ryg hy nie derms uit nie.
Lesers wat van kat en muis spanningsromans soos Gerald Semour se Harry’s Game & The Journeyman Tailor, John Grisham se The Client en Loup Durand se Daddy hou, sal Hunting Time geniet. Maar die spanning - myns insiens - is ligter as in sy naelbyters soos The Bone Collector en The Devil’s Teardrop. Tog verminder dit nie sy ystergreep op lesers se hart nie. Deaver weet hoe om lesers op die punt van hul stoele te laat sit.

Klerksdorp Midweek, Orkney - The Orkney Magistrates’ Court postponed the case against Sibusiso Kula (34) to March 14, for further in- vestigations.
Kula was charged with murdering his wife and the court denied him bail in his last court appear- ance. The appeal on the bail judgement was also struck off the roll at the High Court of South Afri- ca, North West Division.
The senior state advocate, Benny Kalakgosi, urged the court to strike the matter off the roll, as the papers submitted by Kula’s attorney were not in order.
Judge Andre Peterson ruled in favour of the state and the matter was struck off the court roll. Kula is the ANCYL regional secretary in die Dr KK district and an MP.
“The NPA welcomes the judge’s ruling and will now focus on building a solid case against the ac- cused, pending the finalisation of the investiga- tions in preparation for trial. An application will
also be made at a later stage with the Director of Public Prosecutions in North West, for the mat- ter to be transferred to a higher court, owing to its serious nature,” said Henry Mamothame, NPA Regional Spokesperson.
Police reports reveal that Kula’s wife was found murdered on November 27 last year, in what seemed like a robbery.
“She was found with a stab wound on her back but the object that was used for her alleged murder has not been recovered. The matter was reported by the medical facility where she was transported by the accused to receive medical attention. He told the police that he was not present at his home when the incident occurred.
“Following thorough investigations by the po- lice, he was linked to the alleged murder, and he was arrested on January 20, and charged with murder.’’
Kula will remain in police custody until the next court appearance.

The primary duty of an employee is to place their personal services at the disposal of the employer, whilst that of the employer is to remunerate the employee regardless of the fact whether the employee performs on a particular day or not as a result of load- shedding or any other reason that is beyond the control of any employee.
The parties to an employment contract are generally free to regulate their respective rights and duties in the contract, subject to the requirements of the law.
For example, the parties could agree that the payment of an employee’s salary may either be daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly, in cash, by cheque or by direct de- posit into a bank account designated by the employee.
Deductions from an employee’s salary, for whatever reason, are prohibited unless the employee has agreed in writing to the deduc- tion in respect of a specified debt, or unless deductions are required or permitted in terms of a law, collective agreement, court order or arbitration award.
However, deductions may be effected to reimburse employers for loss or damage caused by employees in the course of their employment, but only with the employee’s consent, if the loss or damage was due to the employee’s fault, if the employer has given the employee a reasonable opportu- nity to show why the deductions should not

Accordingly, should an employer contem- plate docking an employee’s salary without the employee’s consent, regardless of the amount, this will violate section 34 of the BCEA and the employee can declare a dis- pute.
An employee earning below the earn- ings threshold, R224 080.48 per year (R18 673.00 per month) as of March 1 2022, may refer a dispute to the CCMA and employees that earn above this threshold may institute a claim concerning the failure to pay their salary, or part thereof, in either the Labour Court, the High Court or, subject to their jurisdiction, the Magistrates’ Court or the Small Claims Court.
Should an employer wish to dock em- ployee salaries due to load-shedding, the employer will therefore first have to ob- tain their employees’ written consent be- fore they can dock their salary and cannot unilaterally implement such a decision.
Should the employee refuse to consent to this type of arrangement, employers may consider placing employees on short time or aligning their operating times or employees’
working hours to load-shedding schedules.
As a last resort, employers may also con- sider the retrenchment of employees due to operational requirements and the impact of load-shedding and the need to keep the busi- ness running.
Should your business be affected by load- shedding to the extent that you are looking into options like docking pay or retrench- ment, it would be advisable to consult your labour specialist first to ensure that any ac- tion taken is legal and appropriate.

The venue will be at the Banquet Hall in Klerksdorp on Saturday March 4 for juniors and Sunday March 5 for senior fighters above 18 years.
All South African Kyokushin organisations support it and top fighters from neighbouring coun- tries like Swaziland and Zimbabwe will also participate .
The tournament will start at 09:30 on both days and entrance is free for spectators.
