Die sirkus het op 4 en 5 Julie Vryburg besoek en die gemeenskap het in groot getalle bygewoon. Attie van der Nest is hier saam met sy dogters Leandri en Liné en Mia Laubscher.
Ten spyte van kragonderbrekings in die dorp, het die gemeenskap van Vryburg die sirkus bygewoon.
Beweerde swak toestande by winterskool
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG- Meer as 100 Gr.12 leerders van Colinda Sekondêre skool in Vryburg het Sondag (26 Junie) vertrek na Christiana vir die begin van die winterskool. Skaars twee dae later het van die leerders se ouers hulle kinders weer gaan haal, - glo as gevolg van beweerde swak toestande by die Christiana School for the Blind waar die winterskool aangebied is.
Volgens een van die ouers, het hulle saam met Mr Metsi van die Departement van Onderwys na die skool in Christiana gegaan om hulle van die toestande te vergewis.
Die skoolhoof, Mpho Jasson wou eers nie die ouers in die koshuise van die dogters en seuns toelaat nie, totdat Mr Metsi aangedring het dat ouers toegelaat moet word. Stellalander het Mpho Jasson gekontak oor die voorval en is verwys na die Departement van Onderwys.
Volgens een van die ouers van ‘n Gr.12-leerder op die winterskool, was mense besig om die seunskoshuiskamers en perseel skoon te maak, nadat die skool uitgevind het dat ouers en die Departement van Onderwys ‘n besoek sou bring aan die skool. Tydens die besoek aan die skool, is ouers ingelig dat seuns ou matrasse in ‘n stoor gaan haal het en dat hulle gekies het om in die vuil kamers sonder gordyne en vuil matrasse te slaap, terwyl ander skoon kamers reeds vir hulle beskikbaar was. Mnr Metsi het tydens sy besoek versoek dat die seuns na ander kamers verskuif word. Metsi het genoem dat slegs ses leerders die winterskool verlaat het, waarvan sommige weens mediese toestande was. Volgens van die kinders op die winterskool, is daar ‘n tekort aan water, kos was nie altyd op standaard nie, matrasse is in ‘n haaglike toestand en vensters van kamers was stukkend. Daar is vyf persele: Stella, Lykso, Christiana, Vryburg en Tierkloof in die Naledi Sub-Distrik waar winterskool aangebied word. Winterskool duur voort tot 18 Julie. Mnr Metsi het wel aan Stellalander bevestig dat die daaglikse leerders van Christiana School for the Blind wel in goeie toestande skoolgaan en woon.

STELLALANDER-TAUNG: The Taung Magistrates’ Court, postponed the case against nine accused, consisting of two females and seven males, of murder to 27 July for further investigations.
They have all abandoned their bail applications. Oleogeng Donald Bohelo (29), Tumisang Duncan Lobelo (23), Bakang Makolonkwane (42), Mosepele Gideon Mompati (64), Amos Mbolelo Sanoke (27), Grace Molemoeng Segacwe (41), Frans Seabelo Thae (54), Gobonamang Thae (39) and Tekoetsile Francis Thae (58) were arrested on Wednesday (29 June). It is alleged that a 19-year-old Dikakanyo Sanoke was at his home in Loselong Village, Pudimoe, on Tuesday afternoon (28 June), when the accused fetched and forcefully took him to the nearby bushes. Sanoke, who was accused of housebreaking, was allegedly beaten to death. The accused were traced, arrested and made their first appearance before the Taung Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (29 June). They were remanded in custody. Further arrests are imminent. The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, warned that police will not tolerate lawlessness and that those who undermine the authority of the State will be dealt with accordingly.

DA calls for resurfacing of death-trap R504
STELLALANDER-SCHWEIZER-RENEKE: The Democratic Alliance (DA) in North West calls for the complete resurfacing of the R504 between Wolmaransstad and Schweizer-Reneke.
This follows a DA oversight inspection of the R504 on Friday (1 July). The road is a death- trap for motorists. Large stretches of the road have disintegrated. At several points along the road, vehicles must completely veer off the road to continue their journeys. At other points, vehicles are forced to drive in the oncoming traffic lanes. At night, the road, without any street lighting, is quite frankly impassable. The R504 is a major provincial road that connects the agricultural communities of Leeudoringstad, Wolmaransstad, Schweizer-Reneke, and Greater- Taung in the North West with the agricultural hub of Bothaville in the Free State, as well as the iron-ore mining operations in Kuruman, Kathu, and Postmasburg in the Northern Cape. There is now an attempt to fill potholes, but this is a short- term solution. The R504 carries about 10 000 vehicles a month, mostly heavy traffic vehicles of more than 50 tons. Filled potholes only last a few weeks. The Department of Public Works and Roads only budgeted R380 million towards roads in the North West this financial year. This funding is only sufficient to service about 5 or 6 major roads and pave about 53 km of gravel road. MEC Oageng Molapisi regularly bemoans a lack of funding, but he has no grounds to stand on since his department last year returned R365 million to National Treasury in unspent infrastructure grant funding. The Department is unable to spend money on maintaining and
rehabilitating roads because, as alleged, the four District Chief Directors of Operations for roads lack the necessary skills and qualifications to do their jobs. The DA has called for a full-scale provincial skills audit following this revelation.
They have also engaged the Provincial and National Treasury to see how funding for roads can be increased, especially for major provincial roads that serve as the arteries of economic activity. The DA will also propose that the North West Provincial Government coordinate the rehabilitation of the R504 with SANRAL, which is already engaged with the rehabilitation of the national N12 highway in the province. Poor roads lead to economic decay, unemployment, lack of services, increased prices on goods and services, as well as high maintenance and input costs, which are all barriers preventing economic development. It is a fact that well-maintained roads not only save lives but also lead to greater economic activity, which is a prerequisite for job creation.

STELLALANDER-MOROKWENG: The Ganyesa Magistrates’ Court granted Kitso Ben Jood (55), R6000 bail and he will reappear on 28 July 2022, with eleven other accused persons, who are also out on R6000 bail each.
The court ordered them to surrender their passports and to report three times a week to the police station. Kamogelo Itumeleng(40), Othusitse Seipelo(42), Lethusang Lethusang(39), Malebogo Botsime(27), Modise Chweneemang(43), Koketso Martins(26), Joshua Bees(38), Odirile Maamogwa(25), Gakeinee Thebe(33), Bakang Lekgetho(37), Tshepo Seemela(44) and Kitso Jood(55) are facing charges of kidnapping, arson and murder, of three men in Morokweng. Police reports reveal that eleven of the suspects were arrested in the early hours of Friday morning (27 May) during a crime intelligence-driven operation by a multidisciplinary team, comprising of Tactical Response Team (TRT), Public Order Police (POP) and Detectives. The twelfth suspect was apprehended the following day. The arrests eminate from an incident
on Tuesday (24 May) when some members of the community went to a rented house at Ga-Mokgopha Section in Morokweng near Vryburg, where Bonakele Sabasaba (32), Khayalethu Sabasaba (22), and Zanaflex Sabasaba (26), all South African citizens, from Carletonville in Gauteng Province lived. The community group allegedly pelted the house with stones, to force out the trio. In the process of escaping the attack, the victims allegedly stabbed and injured some of the attackers. The group then chased and caught the men, who were accused of dealing drugs.
The three victims were then taken back to the house, which was eventually set alight.
The victims burnt and died in the house. The police managed to confiscate a vehicle that was allegedly used during the commission of the crimes. Investigations into the matter continue.
12 Arrested for Morokweng murder
STELLALANDER-GANYESA: A charity event was held by Ganyesa Bakkies at Ganyesa District Hospital on 16 June. 2022. Ganyesa Bakkies is a young men social club in Ganyesa consisting of nine members.
It was officially launged in June 2019 in Ganyesa. It’s a young farmers organisation, aimed at helping each other in agriculture, development, knowledge and information sharing in farming and lastly doing charity work to communities.
On Youth day, Thursday (16 June), Ganyesa Bakkies Social Club visited Ganyesa district hospital to provide a donation to the Maternity, Neonatal and Peadreatric wards.
The objective of the charity was to donate new born clothing particularly 0-3 months, a microwave oven and kettle to maternity ward. “We saw a need because we were told that there are times where children are born and do not have any proper clothing, due to the mothers from disadvantaged backgrounds in Khagisano
Molopo area, “ says chairperson Ntoko.
“We use our own funds and receive no support that empower us impact”. As a group we do charity events annually and this year, we saw a need at Ganyesa District Hospital, “says Ntoko. Ganyesa Bakkies were accompanied by the bikers.
The day started with a prayer and then an introduction of Ganyesa Bakkies members was done. They were welcomed by the hospital management led by the CEO D Jookan and the clinical manager Dr G.D Kegakilwe. Ganyesa Bakkies donated new born clothes and baby blankets, microwave oven, electric kettle, 10kg white sugar, 10kg brown sugar, 12 liters of full cream milk, two 800g tins of coffee and two 250g boxes of tea.

Reageer só op ‘n negatiewe skoolrapport
Die doel van die rapport is nie om ouers paniekerig te maak of massahisterie te veroorsaak nie, maar eerder om terugvoer oor jou kind se vordering te gee.
Woedende ouers en ontstelde kinders los nie probleme op nie. Dit veroorsaak net meer spanning. Die Skoleondersteuningsentrum (SOS) deel ’n paar wenke hoe om rapportspanning te benader.
• Luister eers voordat jy optree. Gesels vooraf met jou kind oor sy vakke, eksamen, en rapport. Luister en moet beslis nie raas nie. Vind uit hoe jou kind oor sy vordering van die afgelope termyn voel. Ongeag jou kind se uitslae, is dit belangrik vir ’n ouer en ’n kind om saam te sit om vakke, punte en moontlike struikelblokke te bespreek. Hierdie gesprek is ʼn baie belangrike deel van ʼn ouer se aktiewe deelname in hul kind se opvoeding.
• Begin die gesprek op ʼn positiewe noot. Wens hulle geluk met die vordering wat gemaak is in vakke wat hulle voorheen uitdagend gevind het en gee ’n beloning daarvoor. Indien daar geen vordering in die punte is nie, prys jou kind oor hoe goed hy met maats oor die weg kom, of sy deelname aan buitemuurse-aktiwiteite.
• Waak teen te veel druk. Ons almal wil hê ons kinders moet goed presteer en vir baie ouers is goeie punte ʼn teken van hierdie verwagting. Goeie punte kan ʼn aanduiding wees van sukses vorentoe. Té veel druk kan egter teen ʼn hoë prys kom, en lei tot sosiale, emosionele en fisiese spanning.
• Behou perspektief en wees versigtig vir onrealistiese verwagtinge. Ouers moet in ag neem dat nie alle leerders top akademiese presteerders is nie. Let ook op ander talente waaroor jou kind beskik, soos goeie menseverhoudinge, deursettingsvermoë, kreatiwiteit en ondernemingsgees en gee daarvoor ook erkenning.
• Moenie jou kinders (en hul punte) met mekaar
vergelyk nie. Elke kind is uniek, presteer op verskillende vlakke en het verskillende sterk- en swakpunte.
• Ontleed die vraestelle en kyk wat is die basiese konsepte wat jou kind nie verstaan nie. Bly op hoogte van jou kind se vordering. ’n Goeie onderwyser sal jou help om te verstaan waarom die bepaalde punte verwerf is en raad gee oor hoe om die punte te verbeter.
• Werk saam met jou kind aan ’n plan. Fokus op die stappe wat gevolg moet word om hom/haar weer op koers te kry. ’n Goeie of slegte punt word nie net gegee nie, dit word verwerf. Hoewel ouers die las moet help dra, ekstra onderrig kan reël, help met huiswerk of selfs ʼn skedule opstel om seker te maak die werk word gedoen, moet kinders besef dat net hulself iets aan hul punte kan doen.
• Ondersteun jou kind, sonder om te veroordeel.
Sit saam en besluit op realistiese doelwitte.
En onthou: Jou kind is soveel meer as ʼn rapport.
Akademiese prestasie is nie die geheelbeeld van jou kind nie. Ondersteun hom/haar om met selfvertroue probleme aan te pak en op te los.

R200 more for a tank of petrol
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: South African motorists are now paying around R205 to R366 more per tank of petrol than they were in January this year.
That is despite government’s ongoing 50% discount on the general fuel levy, which has shaved R1.50 off every litre of petrol for the past three months. The government introduced this relief to avoid potentially massive hikes due to surging global Brent Crude oil prices in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war. Even with this intervention in place, inland petrol prices reached records of R24.17 for unleaded 95 and R23.94 for unleaded 93 in June 2022. In January 2022, unleaded 95 was R19.71 per litre, and unleaded 93 was R19.36. Those would be the lowest prices South African motorists would pay for fuel in the first half of 2022. Making matters worse, these increases do not factor in an additional 75 cents per litre that could be added as the fuel levy relief is phased out.
Finance minister Enoch Godongwana previously said the discount would drop from R1.50 to R0.75 from
6 July 2022 and then be withdrawn entirely from 2 August 2022. To get an idea of how significant this year’s hikes have been, we calculated how much it would cost to fill a car’s tank with petrol in June 2022 compared to January 2022.
We used three standard fuel tank sizes — 45 litres, 60 litres, and 80 litres — for our calculations. Forty- five litres is the typical capacity of most hatchbacks, small sedans and SUVs. For these types of vehicles, we determined it would cost R205.20 more to fill up inland than five months ago if you use unleaded 95.
Sixty-litre tanks are often used in larger sedans and medium-sized SUVs. Drivers with these cars pay R273.60 more for unleaded 95 inland in June than they did in January. Owners of big bakkies and SUVs that don’t use diesel are the worst off, paying about R364.80 more per 80-litre tank of unleaded 95 when
bought inland.
The Department of Energy has published the fuel price adjustments for July, showing a massive hike for both petrol and diesel. The price adjustments for July include an additional 75 cents per litre which is being added back to the general fuel levy as the government tapers off its interventions first introduced in May. The August price adjustment is expected to add a further 75 cents per litre, ending the interventions altogether.
The changes will be implemented on Wednesday July 6.

Increase of 257 cents per litre (R26.74). Petrol 93:
Increase of 237 cents per litre (R26.31). Diesel 0.05%:
Increase of 231 cents per litre (R25.40). Diesel 0.05%:
Increase of 230 cents per litre (R25.53). Illuminating Paraffin (wholesale): Increase of 166 cents per litre (R19.86). According to the department, the average international product prices for petrol, diesel and
illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review. The department reiterated that the temporary fuel price relief will be withdrawn from August 3. With effect from July 6, the fuel levy in the price structure of petrol and diesel will therefor amount to 319 c/l and 305 c/l respectively in the price structure of both petrol and diesel.

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG – The Minister of Home Affairs Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has approved the extension of the operating period for two hours to 18:00 from Thursday (30 June) to Friday (15 July) at selected Home Affairs offices across the country.
This according to information received, is only for the application and collection of Smart ID Cards and Passports. However it should be noted that these operation hours excludes weekends. Minister Motsoaledi said that this extension is critical for service delivery and is part of their many strategies to eliminate long queues at their offices while also ensuring that people receive the enabling documents they apply for.
During school holidays, the Department of Home Affairs experiences an increase in demand for its products, especially parents applying for various enabling documents for their children. In the North West Province the following offices will be part of the extension: Atamelang, Brits, Ganyesa, Itsoseng, Klerksdorp, Lichtenburg, Mankwe, Mmabatho, Potchefstroom, Rustenburg, Vryburg, Wolmaranstad and Zeerust.

Transport Minister inspects progress on N12
STELLALANDER-WOLMARANSSTAD: The Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula visited the N12 national road on Thursday (23 June) in the North West province.
His visit was to conduct an inspection on the progress made to date following the commitment made during the Presidential Imbizo held in Mafikeng recently. The N12 transverses three towns, including Potchefstroom, Klerksdorp and Wolmaransstad, under the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality. The road referred to as ‘The treasure Route’ also connects to Gauteng, the Northern Cape and, ultimately, to Cape Town in the Western Cape. Some sections of the road which were previously under the jurisdiction of the province and various municipalities were transferred to the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) for repairs. Minister Mbalula started his
inspection in Potchefstroom where he was welcomed by the MEC Public Works and Roads Oageng Molapisi, the mayors of the various municipalities, SANRAL board Chair Themba Mhambi, SANRAL Acting CEO Lehlohonolo Memeza, SANRAL project managers responsible for the project, and the appointed contractors on the project. “I’m happy with what I have seen. This tells a story of what we want to achieve,” he said. The Minister also used the opportunity to announce that a campaign to fix potholes throughout the country – to be led by the SANRAL – will be launched next month. Minister Mbalula said he is hard at work to make final inputs to submit the plan to National Treasury to use allocated budget to address the issue of potholes. Work on the restoration of selected pavement areas followed by asphalt commenced on 11 April 2022 and the anticipated date for completion is 22 July 2022 for Wolmaransstad and 29 July 2022 for Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp. A budget of R 27.34 mil was allocated for the repairs at Wolmaransstad and the actual budget used up to date is R 12 mil. “The work is not yet done, and this is not my last visit. I will come back again in July to assess further progress and expect the project to be completed as planned,” Minister Mbalula said. (Image: supplied)

‘Bokke se tweede toets
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die Junior Protea Ruiterkunsspan neem aan die Internasional Saddle Seat Test Series deel vanaf 25 tot 30 Julie tydens die Mercer County Fair in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, VSA.
Die kompetisie word aangebied deur die International Saddle Seat Equestrian Association (ISSEA) tussen Suid-Afrika se Junior Protea Span en ‘n Internasionale Span in beide driegang en vyfgang divisies. Die Junior Proteaspan bestaan uit nege ruiters van regoor die land, ‘n afrigter en spanbestuurder wat Suid-Afrika en sy sportliggame, SASCOC en SAEF, in hierdie Internasionale Kompetisie sal verteenwoordig.
Een van die ruiters, Izabeth Smit, is ‘n oudleerder van Laerskool Vryburg en kleindogter van Elize en Gerhard Taljaard van die Vryburgomgewing.
Bestuurder, Denielle Dercksen noem dat dit ‘n talentvolle, jong span is wat uitsien daarna om hulle kant te bring, die reusegeleentheid met albei hande aan te gryp en hulself voor te berei vir die toekoms en sukses van ruiterkuns in Suid-Afrika.
