Proses pengolahan minyak sawit di Pabrik Kelapa Sawit (PKS) menghasilkan sejumlah residu yang tergolong sebagai limbah, yaitu limbah padat dan limbah cair. Akan tetapi, limbah tersebut dapat diolah dan dimanfaatkan, serta menghasilkan nilai lebih bila mampu dikelola dengan benar dan bijaksana. Dalam pengelolaan limbah, Perseroan menggunakan prinsip 3R, yaitu reduce, reuse dan recycle. Dalam pengelolaannya, limbah cangkang dan serat mesokarp dapat digunakan sebagai sumber bahan bakar boiler untuk pembangkit listrik. Sedangkan limbah cair dan Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit (TKKS) diaplikasikan ke kebun sawit sebagai pupuk organik untuk menambah unsur hara tanah, mengurangi kehilangan air tanah dan mencegah erosi tanah.
Perseroan juga telah melakukan peningkatan fasilitas pengomposan TKKS untuk dijadikan pupuk organic dengan kapasitas 100 ton kompos/hari. Kompos tersebut diaplikasikan ke kebun di sekitarnya sebagai pengganti pupuk anorganik. Selain mengandung unsur hara tertentu, kompos TKKS juga mempengaruhi ketersediaan unsur hara melalui ketersediaan air, oksigen, dan asam-asam organik terlarut yang merupakan agen dalam proses hidrolisa dan pelarutan unsur hara. Humus dalam kompos dapat menetralkan sifat racun dari beberapa unsur mikro dengan mengurangi penyerapannya. Kompos juga menghasilkan bahan sejenis perekat untuk menstabilkan agregat tertentu.
Selain dalam bentuk kompos TKKS juga diaplikasikan langsung ke lahan sebagai mulsa untuk menjaga kelembaban tanah dan mengurangi kehilangan air tanah akibat penguapan. Selain itu aplikasi TKKS ke lahan dapat juga menjadi sumber makanan atau media tumbuh Trichoderma spp dan metharhizium anisopliae, dimana
Trichoderma spp dapat menjadi agen pengendali biologis terhadap infeksi jamur Ganoderma sementara metharhizium anisopliae untuk
as socio-cultural benefit in recognition of indigenous culture and to provide room for indigenous people to preserve their way of life.
To date, we continue to monitor the presence of endangered animal species and natural vegetation in HCV areas. The quality of their biodiversity is preserved, and even enhanced through vegetation enrichment. Awareness on the importance of biodiversity is also instilled in the surrounding communities, by installing notices billboards and providing training to operational staffs on HCV.

The palm oil production process at the Palm Oil Mill (POM) produces waste categorized as solid and liquid waste. Nevertheless, the waste can be processed and utilized, and even bring added value under correct and proper waste management. The Company applies the 3R principles: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, in its waste management. In the Company’s waste management process, kernel shell and mesocarp fiber are utilized as burning fuel for boilers, while liquid waste and empty palm fruit bunch are utilized as additional organic fertilizer in the palm estates for soil nutrients and to minimize groundwater loss as well as to prevent soil erosion.
The Company has also improved its facility for producing organic fertilizer from empty fruit bunch with a capacity of up to 100 tons of fertilizer per day. The fertilizer is used in the surrounding plantation estates as an alternative for inorganic fertilizer. Besides containing certain nutrients, it also affects the availability of nutrients through water, oxygen, and dissolves organic acids that serve as processing agent for hydrolysis and nutrient dissolution. Nutrients contained in the fertilizer can neutralize the toxic nature of some microelements by reducing its absorption. The fertilizer also produces adhesive material to stabilize particular aggregates.
Other than being produced into fertilizers, empty fruit bunches are also directly applied on soil as mulch in order to maintain soil moisture and minimize groundwater loss caused by evaporation. Additionally, the application of empty fruit bunches to the soil can serve as food intake resources or growing medium for Trichoderma spp and metharhizium anisopliae, where Trichoderma spp serves as a biological control agent against fungal infections from Ganoderma,

Pada 2011, sesuai dengan keputusan yang diterbitkan oleh Menteri Pertanian, semua perusahaan perkebunan kelapa sawit wajib untuk menerapkan P&C Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO). ISPO merupakan Kebijakan Pemerintah yang bersifat wajib mengacu pada Permentan No. 19 tahun 2011. Prinsip dan Kriteria ISPO menjadi acuan Perseroan guna memastikan bahwa produk yang dihasilkan telah memenuhi standar yang terbaik. Beberapa kriteria tersebut adalah 1. Sistem perijinan dan manajemen perkebunan.
2. Penerapan pedoman teknik budidaya dan pengolahan kelapa sawit.
3. Pemantauan dan pengelolaan lingkungan. 4. Tanggung jawab terhadap pekerja. 5. Tanggung jawab sosial dan komunitas. 6. Pemberdayaan ekonomi masyarakat. 7. Peningkatan usaha secara berkelanjutan.
In its business development, the Company has participated in various environmental initiatives that uphold sustainable business principles, in which the Company cooperates with several parties. Together, the Company carries out its strategic initiatives to achieve sustainable business practice.
The Company has also determined operational standards of oil palm plantation, as detailed below:

• commitment to continuous improvement in key areas of
activities.
In 2011, according to the decree issued by the Minister of Agriculture, which stated that all oil palm plantation companies are obliged to implement the P&C Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO). ISPO is a mandatory Government’s Policy that refers to Permentan No. 19 in 2011. ISPO Principles and Criteria are the Company’s guidelines to ensure that the product meets the highest standard. The criteria are as follows:
1. Plantation management and licensing system.
2. Implementation of guideline on cultivation techniques and palm oil processing.
3. Environmental management and monitoring. 4. Responsibility towards employees.
5. Social and community responsibility. 6. Community’s economic empowerment. 7. Sustainable business enhancement.
Selain itu, Perseroan telah menerima sertifikasi International sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) sejak 2013. ISCC adalah sistem sertifikasi untuk memproduksi sustainable bioenergy berdasarkan eU renewable energy Directives. Sistem ISCC mempersyaratkan pengurangan emisi gas rumah kaca (GRK), produksi biomassa berkelanjutan, konservasi biodiversitas dan keseimbangan antara aspek sosial dan ekonomi dari semua pemangku kepentingan.
Pembangunan infrastruktur dan pemenuhan standar mutu, lingkungan, serta Keselamatan dan Kesehatan Kerja dilakukan secara simultan. Perhitungan emisi GRK dilakukan untuk mengetahui besarnya emisi CO2 yang dihasilkan selama proses produksi CPO, mulai dari kebun hingga proses akhir di pabrik. Enam prinsip ISCC yang harus ditaati adalah: 1. Pemanfaatan tanah
Biomassa tidak boleh diproduksi di lahan dengan nilai biodiversitas tinggi dan kandungan karbon tinggi. 2. Produksi Biomassa
Biomassa diproduksi dengan cara yang bertanggung jawab terhadap lingkungan.
3. Kondisi Kerja dan Keselamatan
Kondisi kerja yang aman melalui pelatihan dan pendidikan, menggunakan pakaian pelindung dan penanganan yang layak dan tepat waktu jika terjadi kecelakaan.
4. Hak Asasi Manusia dan Kesejahteraan
Tidak melanggar hak asasi manusia, hak buruh atau hak atas tanah.
5. Kepatuhan Hukum
Mematuhi semua peraturan regional dan nasional yang berlaku dan harus mengikuti perjanjian internasional yang relevan.
6. Menerapkan Praktik Manajemen yang Baik
Mengikuti dan menjalankan proses produksi dengan sistem manajemen yang terstandardisasi.
In addition, the Company has received the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) since 2013. ISCC is a certification system to produce sustainable bioenergy based on the EU Renewable Energy Directives. The ISCC system requires reduction on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, sustainable biomass production, biodiversity conservation and a balance between social and economic aspects of all stakeholders within the Company.
Infrastructure development and compliance with the standards on product quality, environment, as well as the Occupational Health and Safety have been conducted simultaneously. GHG emission calculations are performed to determine the amount of CO2 emissions generated during the CPO production, from the estates to the milling process. Six ISCC principles to adhere to are as follows:
1. Land Utilization
Biomass shall not be produced on land with high biodiversity value or high carbon stock.
2. Biomass Production
Biomass shall be produced in an environmentally responsible way.
3. Working Conditions and Safety
Safe working conditions should be assured through training and education, the use of protective clothing, and proper and timely response to accidents.
4. Human Rights and Welfare
Human rights, labor rights and land rights shall not be violated.
5. Compliance with Law
All prevailing regional or national laws shall be complied with, and all relevant international treaties shall be observed.
6. Good management practices shall be implemented. The management system standards should be adhered to and carried out in running the production.
