NARRABEEN TRACK UPGRADE IN 2017/18

On Thursday 3 August 2017, the Sydney Pacific Athletic Club was advised by the NSW Office of Sport that the Narrabeen Track will be resurfaced. Funds have been allocated by the NSW Treasury as part of the 2017/18 NSW State Government Budget to undertake this work.

The timing/timeframe of the work is yet to be advised by the NSW Office of Sport.

Thank you very much to all Club members, the Manly Warringah Little Athletics Centre, Jason Falinski, Federal Member for Mackellar and our extended community for rallying over the past year for this very worthwhile cause!!

The 2017 Sydney Pacific Athletic Club Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Awards Presentation Function was held on a very fine Sunday 28 May 2017 in the Pacific Room at the Long Reef Golf Club from 3:00pm with over 60 members and their families attending.

Further congratulations to both:

Lenore Lambert who was awarded the ‘Athletics NSW 2016/17 Masters Sprints/Hurdles Award’, and,

Peter Crombie who was awarded the ‘2017 Australian Masters Athletics Sprinter of the Year’.

Lenore set a new 400m Hurdles Australian Record (W45 Age Group) at the 2017 Australian Masters Athletics Championships that were held in Darwin in June 2017. Lenore ran 63.63 which was only 0.7secs outside the World Record. Well done!!

Tayanita Robertson Junior Athlete. Tayanita is Norfolk Island born and took out the Norfolk Island Gas Centre 100 metres

‘Gift’ with the fastest recorded time (11.6 seconds off a 14-metre handicap) in many years on Sunday 8 January 2017 at the Malcolm Champion Oval, Norfolk Island.

Tayanita very capably represented Norfolk Island at the 2017 Oceania Games held in Fili in June 2017.

Tony Morphis Sydney Pacific 2016 ‘Coach of the Year’ and Coach of Lenore Lambert, Sydney Pacific 2017 ‘Athlete of the Year’ and a Narrabeen based squad of very dedicated and talented athletes.

Philippa Wight Masters Athlete, 50-54 years age group. Winner of a Sydney Pacific 2017 ‘Attitude, Endeavour and Sportsmanship’ Award.

Dean Taylor Masters Athlete, 50-54 years age group. Placed 6th in the 28 May 2017 420m ‘Balmoral Burn’ in the Men’s 50-59 years age group.

Memberships Sydney Pacific has on offer for the 2017/18 season are:

2017/18 Athletics NSW Open Athlete Membership ($190)

This subscription is for athletes 20 years and over as of September 30, 2018. It allows a member eligibility to enter Athletics NSW and Athletics Australia events.

2017/18 Athletics NSW Junior Athlete Membership ($160)

This subscription is for athletes 15 - 19 years of age (15 – 19), as of September 30, 2018. It allows a member eligibility to enter Athletics NSW and Athletics Australia events.

2017/18 Athletics NSW Youth Athlete Membership ($135)

This subscription is for athletes 14 years of age and under as of September 30, 2018. It allows a member eligibility to enter Athletics NSW and Athletics Australia events.

2017/18 Athletics NSW Age Concession Athlete Membership ($160)

The member must be 60 years of age or older as of September 23, 2017 OR hold a current Pensioners/Seniors card. It allows a member eligibility to enter Athletics NSW and Athletics Australia events.

2018 RunNSW Membership (TBC)

This subscription will be available from 1st January 2018. It allows a member: • Eligibility to compete in all Athletics NSW and Athletics Australia Sanctioned Events from April 1st through to September 30th • Free entry into all RunNSW events (excluding Shoalhaven King of the Mountain) • Half Price Entry into Waratah Run Series Event

2017/18 Athletics NSW Family Membership ($400)

"Family" refers to one or both parents, from the same family, and any number of children aged 19 or younger as of September 30, 2018. This subscription allows each member eligibility to enter Athletics NSW and Athletics Australia events. It provides each member with Personal Accident insurance under the National Insurance Plan.

2017/18 Athletics NSW Community Athlete Membership ($55)

This subscription grants the member Personal Accident insurance under the National Insurance Plan.

It does not allow the member eligibility into Athletics NSW and Athletics Australia sanctioned events.

2017/18 Athletics NSW Club Associate ($60)

This subscription grants the member financial status with their club and/or Athletics NSW. This grants them eligibility to vote on behalf of their club. The member is granted personal accident insurance under the National Insurance Plan.

SYDNEY PACIFIC 8 JULY 2017 FUND RAISER

Following the very successful Club fundraisers held in 2015 and 2016, Sydney Pacific returned to Bunnings Belrose for another Club fund raising activity on Saturday 8 July 2017.

2017 BALMORAL BURN – SUNDAY 28 MAY 2017

Congratulations to Sydney Pacific’s Bethany Halmy (Opens 400m and 800m runner; Committee Member) – 4th in the Sunday 28 May 2017 420m Balmoral Burn Elite Female Group in 1:41, and Dean Taylor (Masters multi event athlete), 6th in the Balmoral Burn Men’s 50-59 years age group in 2:03.

ROSIE CRAKER WINS GOLD AT THE 2017 OCEANIA ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS Sydney Pacific’s Rosie Craker won the U/18 400m, setting a new meet record time of 56.31, at the June 2017 Oceania Athletics Championships that well held in Fiji. Well done Rosie!

THE ATHLETICS NSW 2017 WINTER SERIES

The Waratah Run Series is the rebranded and remodelled winter series hosted and supported by Athletics NSW. The events are for participants of all ages and abilities, and focus on participant enjoyment and on the day entertainment.

Formally known as the ‘Athletics NSW Winter Series’, the Waratah Run Series is a set of community based social events which also incorporate a championships component.

With 11 events names, participation opportunities range from XC Festivals at Horsley through to Street Relays in Ourimbah. And with distances from 1km to 30km, there is an event and challenge for everyone.

As part of Athletics NSW Membership Benefits, ANSW Members (Open, Junior, Youth, Age Concession, Dual, Family, RunNSW) will receive half price entry into Waratah Run Series Events.

ATHLETICS NSW FINANCIAL RESULTS OVERVIEW FROM 2007 TO 2017

Athletics NSW (ANSW) recently published its Financial Results from the 2016/17 Financial Year. The ANSW AGM will be held on Wednesday 16 August 2017.

The principal source of revenue for ANSW comes from Annual athletes and Club registrations (Figure 1). Grants and Sponsorships (G&S) revenue has remained relatively stable in $ terms over the 11- year period 2007-2017 and has represented an increasingly smaller percentage each year of total ANSW revenue (Figure 2).
