COUNCIL MEETING

The 10^th meeting of the ‘Council of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST)’ was held on 13 November 2008 at Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman, the Honorable Advisor, Ministry of Education, Peoples Republic of Bangladesh.

The meeting was attended by Chief of Army Staff, General Moeen U Ahmed, ndc, psc, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam, ndu, psc, Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman, ndc, fawc, psc, Commandant MIST, Engineer-in-Chief, Bangladesh Army, and representatives of Armed Forces Division, Dhaka University (DU), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Information & Communication Technology and Dean MIST.

Promotion Officers Officers’ Farewell.

In this meeting discussion on Proposed Revenue Budget of 2009-2010, Inclusion of Aeronautical Engineering Program in academic session 2008-2009, Admission of foreign students. Inclusion of Current and Forthcoming Academic Program of MIST under Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), Transferring all the Courses related to Management Studies to BUP, Inclusion of BUP representatives into the Regulatory Bodies, Higher Education Policy of Civil Teachers/Staff Officers,

“Center for Advisory and Testing Services (CATS)” Policy, Academic Fees for Executive MBA, Policy for the contractual appointment of the retired military Instructors in the vacancies of MIST Teachers/Instructors (Mil) and security enforcement of MIST took place and appropriate decisions were taken.

The 14th Meeting of the Governing Body of MIST was held on 17 July 2008 at MIST. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc, presided over the meeting. Engineer-in-Chief, Bangladesh Army, Representatives from University of Dhaka, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Ministry of Defence, Armed Forces Division, Directors of Army, Navy and Air Training and the concerned members of MIST were present in the meeting. A number of important agenda like proposed revenue budget for the financial year 2009-2010, review of student withdrawal policy, review of library policy, constitution of MIST Debating Society (MISTDS), Re-admission fee of military student in Engineering and MBA program, etc were discussed in the meeting and appropriate decisions were taken.

The 28th Meeting of the Academic Council of MIST was held on 03 July 2008. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc, chaired the meeting and representatives/members from University of Dhaka, BUET, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, Armed Forces Division, Army, Naval and Air Headquarters and the concerned members of MIST were present in the meeting. Deliberate discussions on various important academic related agenda like withdrawal of students, approval of commandant and dean list, ammendment of grade sheet of preferred exam, etc took place and appropriate decisions were taken accordingly.

SEMINAR ON ‘NANO TECHNOLOGY’ AT MIST

The 29th Meeting of the Academic Council of MIST was held on 30 October 2008. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc chaired the meeting and representatives/members from University of Dhaka, BUET, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, Armed Forces Division, Army, Navy and Air Headquarters and concerned members of MIST were present in the meeting. Deliberate discussions on various important academic related agenda like withdrawal of students, proposed academic calendar, examination of level-1, term 1 & 2 of students under going training in BMA, appointment of retired armed forces officers in MIST etc took place and appropriate decisions were taken accordingly.

A seminar on “Nano Technology” was held at Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Mirpur Cantonment on 11th August 2008. Vice Chancellor, BRAC University Professor Dr, Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr Joydeep Dutta, director, Centre of Excellence in Nano Technology and Associate Dean for New Development at SET of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand presented the keynote paper in the seminar. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc, senior civil and military officers and students of MIST were present in the seminar. The speakers and the participants hoped that the seminar would contribute to the participation of Bangladesh in the imminent technological revolution in the world through the application of “Nano Technology”.

VISIT OF VP ACADEMIC AFFAIRS OF AIT TO MIST

Professor Peter Huddawy, Vice President for Academic Affairs of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand visited MIST on 06 November 2008. The AIT Vice President was received by Dean of MIST Brigadier General Tajul Islam. After a short brief on MIST, the scheduled discussion took place . The key aspect was to find out the modalities of the ‘Unified Bachelor - Master Degree Program. The faculty member and other officials of MIST attended the discussion.

VISIT OF AIT PRESIDENT TO MIST

The President Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, Professor Said Irandoust visited MIST on 12 August 2008. During the visit effective discussion was held about academic exchange program, faculty exchange program, joint research, seminar, symposium, workshop etc. This visit will play a vital role for enhancement of mutual co-operation in higher technical education between AIT and MIST in future.

VISIT OF INDIAN HIGHER COMMAND COURSE DELEGATION TO MIST

A 16 (sixteen)-member military delegation of the Indian Higher Command Course led by Brigadier JM Devadoss visited MIST on 25 August 2008. The delegation was received by Dean of MIST Brigadier General Tajul Islam. The visiting guests were briefed about MIST. The faculty members and other officials of MIST attended the discussion.

VISIT OF MYANMAR DELEGATION TO MIST

The Vice-Chairman of State Peace and Development Council, Myanmar, Vice Senior General Maung Aye visited MIST On 08 October 2008. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc received the visiting guest. The visiting Vice Senior General and the delegation was given a brief about MIST. Later on the visiting Vice Senior General and delegation visited classrooms, laboratories and other facilities of MIST. The delegation was accompanied by Special Assistant to Chief Advisor, Barrister Debasish Roy and Senior Military & Civil Officials.

VISIT OF SUDANESE ARMED FORCES DELEGATION TO MIST

H.E. General Muhammad Abdul Qadir Nasruddin, psc, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, Sudanese Armed Forces, visited MIST on 05 November 2008. He led a six-member delegation. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc, welcomed the delegation. The visiting guests were briefed about MIST.

The delegation exchanged views and ideas on mutual cooperation in the field of education. Later on, they visited classrooms, laboratories and other facilities of MIST. The faculty members and other officials of MIST attended the discussion.

TRAINING VISIT

MIST Faculty members and students of ME-5, Level-2, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) visited Bangladesh Insulator and Sanitary Wire Factory Limited (BISWL) at Mirpur, Section-2, Dhaka on 30 August 2008, as part of their training visit.

INTER-DEPARTMENT DEBATE COMPETITION 2008

Inter-Department Table Tennis Tournament 2008 was held at MIST from 25 to 28 August 2008. It was organized by Department of Management Studies. A Total of 05 teams participated in the tournament. Civil Engineering Department &

Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department became the champion & runner-up respectively.

Dean MIST, Brigadier General Tajul Islam distributed prizes amongst the winners as Chief Guest.

Inter-Department Debate Competition 2008 was held at MIST from 21 to 24 September 2008. It was organized by Science and Humanities Department. A Total of 05 teams participated in the competition. Civil Engineering (CE) Department & Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department became the champion &

runner-up respectively. Captain Nizam Uddin of Civil Engineering Department has adjudged as the best speaker. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and distributed prizes amongst the winners.

Inter-Department Football Tournament 2008 was held at MIST from 27 July to 03 August 2008. It was organized by Civil Engineering (CE) Department. A Total of 04 teams participated in the tournament. Civil Engineering Department & Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department became the champion &

runner-up respectively. Dean MIST, Brigadier General Tajul Islam distributed prizes amongst the winners as Chief Guest.

BD/8919 Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Imran Khan was promoted to the rank of Squadron Leader on 10 July 08 and posted as General Staff Officer Grade-2 in Research and Development Wing. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc and Director, Research and Development, Captain M Z Alamgir (L), psc, BN decorated him with the badges of new rank.

BA-2878 Lieutenant Colonel Moin Uddin was promoted to the rank of Colonel on 28 July 08 and posted as Head of the Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc and Dean, Brigadier General Md Tajul Islam, decorated him with the badges of new rank.

PROMOTION – OFFICERS’

ADMISSION TEST-2008

Admission Test-2008 was held on 30 November 2008. Altogether 2468 candidates for Engineering programs and 257 candidates for MBA program and 188 candidates for EMBA program appeared in the admission test .Out of those, 896 candidates for Engineering Departments and 136 for MBA program and 188 candidates for EMBA program were qualified and subsequently called for viva-voce and medical test.

OFFICERS’ FAREWELL

A farewell dinner was arranged in honour of BA- No. 2131 Brigadier General Md Tajul Islam, on 31 December 08, who served in MIST as Dean (Director Academic) from 01 March 07 to 31 December 08 and Head of the department of CSE from 31 July 05 to 31 July 08.

P NO- 814 Lieutenant Commander M Niyamat Elahee (L), psc, BN was promoted to the rank of Commander on 21 August 08 and posted as Instructor Class ‘A’ in Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering (EECE) Department. Commandant MIST, Major General Abdul Wadud, ndu, psc and Head, Mechanical Engineering Department, Captain M Gias Uddin decorated him with the badges of new rank. Head of EECE Department Colonel Moin Uddin was also present.

A farewell dinner was arranged in honour of BA- No. 2497 Colonel Md Abul Khair on 14 December 08, who served in MIST as Senior Instructor of the department of CE from 14 August 06 to 15 December 08.

A farewell dinner was arranged in honour of BA- No. 2577 Colonel K M Salzar Hossain, psc, on 14 December 08, who served in MIST as Senior Instructor of the department of CE from 06 March 08 to 14 September 08.

A farewell dinner was arranged in honour of BA-No. 5031 Major Md Mizanuzzaman, on 31 December 08, who served in MIST as Instructor Class ‘B’ of the department of ME from 19 December 06 to 22 December 08.
