Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk rnenguji efektifitas
terapi Realitas secara
kelompok untuk meningkatkan konsep
diri
penyandang cacat fisik usia dewasa awal.
Subyek penelitian adalah individu penyandang cacat fisik usia dewasa awal,
yang memiliki konsep diri negatif yang terdaftar sebagai anggota Yayasan Pembina
Cacat Tubuh Karya Jasa Utama, Jalan Marelan VII, Lingkungan IV, Nomor 54,
Kotamadya Medan, Propinsi Sumatera Utara. Pengambilan sampel didasarkan atas
rancangan
purposive sampling,
artinya pengambilan sampel dilakukan berdasarkan
pertimbangan peneliti (Sudjana, 1989 : 168). Proses pengumpulan data dilakukan
dengan menggunakan TSCS (Tennessee Self Concept Scale) dari Fitts. Penelitian ini
dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan memberikan perlakuan berupa terapi Realitas
secara kelompok dari Glasser (Corey, 1999) yang dikaitkan dengan teori konsep diri
dari Fitts. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah
pretest - posttest Control
Group Design.
Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah anaIisis statistika
non-parametrik dengan teknik Wilcoxon T-Test
dan
analisis deskriptifdata TSCS dari dua
subyek penelitian dari kelompok perlakuan yang memiliki peningkatan konsep diri
terrendah
dan
tertinggi.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa : 1) Konsep diri responden yang
memperoleh terapi realitas secara kelompok meningkat menjadi positif; 2) Subyek 1
yang memperoleh terapi realitas secara kelompok memiliki peningkatan konsep diri
tertinggi; 3) Subyek 2 yang memperoleh terapi realitas secara kelompok memiliki
peningkatan konsep diri terrendah.

ABSTRACT
The reaserch is intended to examine the effectiveness of grouping ofthe reality
of therapy in order to increase a self concept of physical defect of early adult person
ages.
Subject of study is the person who got physical defect at early adult ages, that
have a negative self concept which are listed as members of "Pembina Cacat Tubuh

kotamadya Medan, North Sumatera. The collecting of data sampling is based on the
frame of "purposive sampling", it means that the taking of sample is taken based on
reasercher consideration (Sudjana, 1989 : 168). The process of data collecting done by
using of TSCS (Tennessee Self Concept Scale) found by Fitts. The study is carried out
by experimental by giving treatment grouping reality therapy taken from Glasser
(Corey, 1999) which is related by self concept theory taken from Fitts. Design of
research which is used is "Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design". Data analysis
techniques which is used is nonprametric analysis by using ofT-Test Wilcoxon and
descriptive analysis to TSCS data from two subjects of reaserch from the treatment
which have the increase ofthe lowest and the highest self concept.
The result of reaserch shows that : 1) Self concept of respondent that got
reality therapy in group increased become positive; 2) The first subject that got reality
therapy in group has the increasing of highest self concept; 3) The second subject that
got the grouping of reality therapy that has.the lowest self concept increasing.
