---ABSTRACT
Energy is the mainpoints resources of national development. One kind of the
energy is electric. Electric is very important for supporting many aspects of life, like
household, industry, manufactur, business, communication, etc. Of course, the
development of the aspects above, will increase the economic development. If
economic development increase, it will influence the people income per capita,
provide new work opportunity, and back up the achievement of proper life quality
standart.
As one of the important energy, it causes the electric demand often increases
in Mcdan city every year.
It
is influenced by the increasing people development, the
people income per capita, the price of the electric, the price of the other thing (both of
substitution and complementer things), etc.
In this research will be studied how the relation between the price of electric
and the people income per capita with electric demand in Medan city. To know how
its relation we use simple regression funglion with ordinary least square. The
regression use electric price and people income per capita as independent variable
and electric demand as dependent variable. This research also use time series with
fifteen years from 1989 to 2003.
From the regression we can find that both of independent variable (price
electric and people income per capita) have significant influence to electric demand
in Medan city. The influence shows positive relation.
It
means that if the electric
price increases, the electric demand will be increasing too because how much the
price of electric, people will buy it. So with the people income per capita.
Based on the condition, we hope the electric stay on good quality with
standart price so that it can be reached by household, business, manufacture, etc.
Besides it, the supply of electric is expected to increase continuesly to face the
increasing of electric demand by making the substitution thing of electric, using the
other kinds of energy, or the other ways.
