ABSTRACT

Wijayani, Sri Wahyu, 1209010001. 2017: Fanny Price’s Passiveness About Love As

seen in Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park. Undergraduate Thesis for Sarjana Sastra Degree, English Department, Faculty of Letters, University of Muhammdiyah Purwokerto.

This research aims to describe the influence of id, ego, and superego and the

behavioral factors of Fanny Price’s love passiveness in Mansfield Park novel (1814). This research focused on Fanny Price, the main Character.

To find the answers, the researcher used Psychoanalysis theory by Sigmund Freud. This research used qualitative descriptive. The data were taken from a novel by reading and taking notes. It was in a form of paragraph, conversation or

acts related to Fanny Price’s passiveness love towards Edmund.

The analysis led to three conclusions. First, there were three kinds of the nature conflict experienced by Fanny Price. Those were choice not in accordance with internal and external factors. The internal factor causing conflict in Fanny Price in this novel came from the nature of the Fanny’s character herself. The external factor came from the nature and people around her. She had lack of attention from her previous family. It made Fanny Price has an introvert character and lack of confidence. The last was external factor. It was when she had to move to Mansfield. She had never been lived in a magnificent house before. She had lack of education and has no dignity. She came from very different background. It made her unable to change her behavior. She always haunted by fear and anxiety.

Studi ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh id, ego, dan superego dan fakto pengaruh terhadap perilaku pasif Fanny Price di novel Mansfield Park (1814). Penelitian ini hanya fokus pada Fanny Price.

Untuk mengetahui jawabannya, penulis menganalisa penelitian ini menggunakan teori Psychoanalysis oleh Sigmund Freud. Penulis menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Data diambil dari novel dengan cara membaca dan mencatat yang mencakup paragraph, percakapan atau tindakan terkait sikap cinta pasif dari Fanny Price terhadap Edmund.

Hasil penelitian menghasilkan tiga kesimpulan. Pertama, ada tiga jenis konflik yang dialami oleh Fanny Price, yaitu pilihan yang tidak sesuai dengan keinginan, kecemburuan, dan kebimbangan dalam menghadapi konflik. Menurut hasil penelitian, semua masalah yang dialami Fanny didominasi oleh id daripada ego. Dominasi id menyebabkan Fanny mengalami konflik batin. Ini mempengaruhi perilaku Fanny, terutama pada perilaku pasifnya terhadap Edmund. Di sisi lain, konflik paling dominan pada Fanny Price adalah saat dia harus melakukan sesuatu yang tidak sesuai dengan keinginannya.Kedua, faktor yang melatar belakangi konflik yang mempengaruhi perilaku Fanny dalam novel Mansfiel Park

Jane Austen ini terbagi menjadi dua. Itu adalah faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal adalah konflik yang berasal dari dalam diri Fanny Price, berasal dari karakter Fanny sendiri. Faktor eksternal berasal dari lingkungan dan orang-orang disekitarnya. Dia kurang mendapat perhatian dari keluarga sebelumnya. Itu membuat Fanny Price memiliki karakter yang tertutup dan kurang percaya diri. Ketiga adalah Faktor eksternal. Hal tersebut terjadi saat dia harus pindah ke Mansfield. Dia belum pernah tinggal di rumah megah sebelumnya. Pendidikan yang kurang dan tidak bermartabat. Dia berasal dari latar belakang yang sangat berbeda dengan pria yang dicintainya. Hal itu membuat dia tidak dapat mengubah perilakunya. Dia selalu dihantui ketakutan dan kecemasan.
