ABSTRACT
Romadhoni, Astri Febi, 1209010004. 2017: Translation strategies of magical
things in “Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire” by J.K. Rowling into Indonesian. Undergraduate Thesis for Sarjana Sastra Degree, English Department, Faculty of Letters, University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.
This research aims to investigate (1) the translation strategies of magical things
in “Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire”, (2) the equivalence level of magical things translation. This is a qualitative research on translation. The data source of this research is “Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire” by J.K. Rowling and “Harry Potter
dan Piala Api” by Listiana Srisanti. Then the data of this research are only the words of magical things.
This study employs key theory of translation strategies from Hatim and Munday (2004). To support the analysis, it also applies theories of superordinate and omission strategy (Baker, 1992), addition strategy (Suryawinata and Hariyanto, 2003), free translation (Newmark, 1988).
Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that the translation strategies of
magical things in “Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire” are free translation, literal translation, addition strategy, omission strategy, calque strategy, and superordinate strategy. Literal translation is the mostly found in translation of magical things because it is follows the source text form as closely as possible without following the source language structure.
Another finding of this study is there are non-equivalence in some of the data which is the meaning is not appropriate in the target language.

INTISARI
Potter and Goblet of Fire”, (2) kesetaraan makna dari hal-hal ajaib.
