ABSTRACT
IMPROVING STUDENTS’ COMPETENCE IN WRITING RECOUNT TEXT THROUGH CHAIN STORY GAME

This Classroom Action Research aimed at improving students’ competence in writing recount text through chain story game. The research was conducted at one of the Junior High Schools in Sempor, Kebumen with 27 students of class VIIIG as the subject of the research. It was done for five months (January - May 2012).
The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) as the method of the research. To do this research, the researcher worked collaboratively with the English teacher. The CAR was done based on the Kemmis and McTaggart’s design. The researcher took two cycles with two actions in each cycle.
The data were collected through observation, writing test, questionnaire, interview, and documentation. The researcher employed qualitative and quantitative data as technique for analyzing data. The qualitative data were analyzed based on the students’ and teacher’s interview result, while the quantitative data were analyzed based on students’ writing result, students’ observation result, and questionnaire.
