ABSTRACT
The title of this study is “Psychological Analysis of the Main Character in the Black
Swan Movie”. It is a psychological thriller in the world of New York City ballet. One dancer, Nina Sayers, was a perfect fit for the White Swan, while Lily has a personality that matches the Black Swan. When the two compete for the parts, Nina found a dark side of herself.
In this paper the main character of Black Swan movie was analized. This film was chosen because there weremany conflicts that arose and greatly affected the psychology of the main character. The internal and external conflicts related to the main characters are focus of the analysis
The result of the psychological anlysis shows the functioning Id, Ego and Superegoin
Nina’s life. They are the three theoretical constructs in terms of activity and interaction of
mental life of person. According to this model of the psyche, the Id is the set of uncoordinated instinctual trends, the Ego is the organized, realistic part, and the Superego plays the critical and moralizing role. Those three elements of the psychological structure are found working in the personality of Nina Sayers as the main character of this film. These three elements of personalities caused the conflicts on her part. However, towards the end of the story, her Superego seemed to dominate so that she realized her ambition to be the Swan Queen (to be perfect ballerina) was too big.
