MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING between
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA and
THE GOVERNMENT OF THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS concerning
INDONESIAN-NETHERLANDS CO- OPERATION IN ISLAMIC STUDIES
The Minister for Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, H.Munawir Sjadzali, MA. and the Minister for Development Co-operation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Drs. Piet Bukman, discussed the enlargement of the Indonesian-Netherlands co-operation in the field of Islamic Studies during their meeting of April 18, 1988.
They agreed upon the following :
1 . Indonesia and the Netherlands will enlarge their co-operation in the field of Islamic Studies with a programme aiming at strengthening the State Institutes of Islamic Studies of Indonesia (IAIN) .
2. The above mentioned programme shall be financed by the Netherlands Government within the cash-ceiling - the bilateral development co-operation, in the amount of ･ｾｾＧ＠ imately 8 (eight) million guilcers in the form of grant during thE coming 5 (five) years. The contribution of the Indonesian Government shall be subject to its normal budgetary appropriation .
3 . The programme, to be agreed upon between both countries, will last S (five) years starting in 1989 , with a possibility of extension if the co-operation needs to be prolonged .
4. On the Indonesian side the programme will be co-ordinated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the relevant Indonesian authorities while on the Netherlands side the State University of Leiden will co-ordinate the programme activities on behalf of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
