ABSTRACT
The increasing number of cervical cancer is caused by the lack of effective prevention and early detection of cervical cancer. In Indonesia, women of childbearing ages, who have done the VIA test as an effort on early detection of cervix cancer, reach only 1.75% in 2007-2013. It is still very far from the achievement of screening coverage of cervical cancer. One of the factors that influences the achievement of early detection is husband’s difficulty to allow his wife to do the inspection. The VIA test will be well-carried out with the support of the husbands. The purpose of this study is to determine the husband’s support of the VIA test as an effort on early detection of cervical cancer in Puskesmas South Sumedang.
The design of this research is Quantitative Descriptive. The population of this research is the husband who has a 25-49-year-old wife in Kotakulon, a part of work area of Puskesmas South Sumedang. The samples are gained by using Purposive Sampling Method with the sample size of 100 people. The analysis of the data used in this research is Univariate Analysis.
The analysis showed that most respondents, 63 people (63%) , do not support the VIA test, and almost half of respondents, 37 people (37%), support the VIA test.
The conclusion of this study shows that the lack of husband’s support on the VIA test is influenced by financial factors and the knowledge of the husband. The clinic should conduct the health education about the VIA test for husbands, carry out free program of VIA test, and provide the advocacy for husbands so that they can support the program of VIA test.
