PREFACE

ISPRS Annals, Volume III, Part B2

Songnian Li, President, ISPRS Technical Commission II Ryerson University, Civil Engineering

350 Victoria St., Toronto, ON M5B 2K3, Canada

Commission II

Technical Commission II focuses on development of theory and concepts of spatial information science that help advance the research, technology and applications of spatial information science. The Commission has received a total of 240 submissions and has accepted 26 full papers to Annals and 118 abstracts published in the Archives; all papers address the terms of references of all of its 9 working groups including 5 theme sessions.

The five theme sessions are specially organized to discuss some recently emerged areas related to the Commission’s terms of reference, such as geosocial media data, linked geospatial data, open data development, perceptual and cognitive experiments and smart cities. Among all accepted contributions, a significant number of them are related to studies with an urban context, and almost half of them are authored or co-authored by students.

The Commission wishes to thank all authors who have submitted their abstracts and papers, and all invited reviewers for their reviews that ensure the overall quality of all accepted contributions. The Commission also thanks all WG chairs, co-chairs and secretaries as well as theme session chairs for their hard work on coordinating the reviews, selecting contributions and assigning sessions.
