ABSTRACT
The effect of extraction duration on the yield and of physic-chemistry properties of kachnar (Bauhinia purpurea L.) seed oil has been carried out in Laboratory of Natural Product FSM SWCU, Salatiga. The purposes of this study are: Firstly, to determine the effect of extraction duration on the yield and physico-chemistry properties ofB. purpureaseed oil. Secondly, to fractionate and identify the chemical composition of ofB. purpureaseed oil. The extraction has been done by soxhlete apparatus with duration from 4,5 to 7,5 hours using hexane. Further on, the physico-chemistry properties of seed oil were characterized and its composition identified by GCMS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy). Data were analyzed using Randomized Completely Block Design (RBCD) with 3 treatments and 9 replications. As the treatment is the extraction duration which are 4,5; 6,0 and 7,5 hours, respectively, while as the replication is the time of analysis. To test the difference between the treatment-means, the Honestly Significant Different (HSD) at 5% level significance were used. The results show that the peroxide value decreased in 7,5 hours of extracting. On the contrary, the extraction duration has no effect on the yield, moisture content, acid value, and saponification value, respectively. Neutral lipid fraction dominated 94,91% of total lipid of B. purpurea seed oil followed by glycolipid and phospolipid.
