The study is to observe the correlation between writing recount text and the use of social media Facebook in the second grade students of SMP 1 Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The instruments used were questionnaire and writing recount text test. The key point in this research will focused on the correlation study between students‘ writing skill in recount texts and the use of social media. This research are formulated to observe the student habit of using social media Facebook and to observe student writing skill in recount text, the last was to find out the correlation between students writing skill competence in recount texts and using Facebook. The average score for Facebook questionnaire used as ―Y‖ variable. The average score for recount text used as ―X‖ variable. The result, there are a correlation between student writing recount text and the use of social media Facebook with correlation coefficient: 0.6119.
