This course is aimed especially at introducing some prominent and influencing modern theories and schools of linguistics. It provides students with essential characteristics of each theory and general principles of how the theories may fit into linguistic methodology. Some topics to discuss include Saussure’s theory, Hjelmslev’s prolegomena to a theory of language, Bloomfieldian theory, Post-Bloomfieldian theory, Tagmemic theory, Prague School theory, London School and Firthian lingistics, Case Grammar and Halliday’s Transitivity System.
II. STANDARISASI KOMPETENSI MATA KULIAH
At the end of this unit students are expected to have adequate modern linguistic theories.
