ABSTRACT
A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPETENCE
BETWEEN STUDENTS WHO GOT WEEKLY VOCABULARY TASK AND THOSE WHO DID NOT
By
RATIH ANGGRAENI 1101050023
The primary aim of this research was to investigate whether there is significant difference on students‟ reading competence between students who got weekly vocabulary task and those who did not. The data were collected through interview and reading test.
The method of this research was an ex-post facto. This research was conducted in Januari 2015 by involving the ninth grade students as the population. The number of population were 272 students. Proportional random sampling was used to take the sample. Students who became the sample were 60. Since it was an ex-post facto, therefore the sample was divided into two groups. 30 students who get weekly vocabulary task and 30 students who do not get weekly vocabulary task. Interview was done to get information about weekly vocabulary task. A test was used to asses students‟ reading competence. T-test was used to analyze the data.
The result of the data computation was compared by using one-tail test. The t-test result was 2.8454 and t-table in the level of significance 0.05 in df=58 was 1.6715. So, t-test > t-table (2.8454 > 1.6715). Therefore the hypothesis was accepted. It was proven that there was significant difference on students‟ reading competence between students who got weekly vocabulary task and those who did not.
