ABSTRACT
IMPROVING STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH
CLOZE PROCEDURE
(A Classroom Action Research at the VIII B Students of SMP
Muhammadiyah 1 Cilacap in Academic year 2011/2012)

The research aimed to improve students’ reading comprehension using cloze procedure. It used a classroom action research, which was conducted at VIII B Students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Cilacap in Academic Year 2011/2012 who were 41 students. It was done in March and April 2012.
The research collaborated with English teacher. The classroom action research was carried out based on Kemmis and Mc. Taggart design. This research took two cycles with two actions in each cycle. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting.
There were two kinds of data collections; qualitative data and quantitative ones. The qualitative data were taken from observation result of teacher’s activity, field notes, and documentation. The quantitative data were taken from test, observation result of students’ activity, and also questionnaire.
