released its unaudited financial and operational results for the period ending in 30 June 2017 6M17 .

It has been more than half a year since NOAA called for La Nina weather condition in the fourth quarter of last year 4Q16 . Yet as of July, post La Nina rains continues to persist over parts of Sumatra and Kalimantan where most of the Company oil palm estates are located. Fortunately, rainfall intensity in both regions have subsided by approximately 30% from its peak in 4Q16.

In palm oil terms, rains are usually associated with two phenomenon; oil extraction rates occuring at the palm oil mills which tend to decline in the immediate period, but it is typically followed by higher FFB yield from the oil palm estates which ultimately results in more palm oil output.

So even though oil extraction rates generated by the Company in 6M17 retreated to 21.7%, or 0.4% lower year-on-year, Sampoerna Agro still managed to produce 38% more volume as CPO output reached 136,707 tons for the period. Sumatra estates led the volume growth as oil palm estates in the region on average produced 55% more volume versus 6M16 and reached 89,824 tons. Kalimantan region was also able to book a respectable 15% growth in 6M17 and produced 46,883 tons of CPO.

Aside from the robust operational performance, bullish palm oil market condition in 6M17 also helped the Company to generate strong financial performance. Consolidated revenue was recorded at Rp1,612.29 billion, or 50% higher than 6M16 figure. The revenue increase was mainly attributable to higher contribution from CPO which climbed 41% to reach Rp1,221.04 billion. The rise was due to 24% higher selling price, which averaged Rp8,555 per kg, and 14% more sales volume.

Revenue contribution from Palm Kernel in 6M17 also continued to outshine CPO in terms of year-on-year performance. Palm Kernel contributed Rp240.97 billion in 6M17, or 101% higher than 6M16 due to 51% higher selling price, which averaged Rp8,028 per kg, and 33% more sales volume.

Consequently, Sampoerna Agro recorded Rp174.15 billion of earnings for the period, versus a net loss of Rp84.22 billion in 6M16.
