CPO IS STILL IN DECLINING MODE

What was already a cheap alternative for edible oil became even more affordable in recent times. Average price of CPO in Malaysia Derivative Exchange during 1Q13 turned out to be Rm2,326 per ton, or 28% lower than the same period in the previous year Q . Industry experts believed that the downward pressure on the commodity was triggered by the ongoing global economic slowdown coupled with elevated level of CPO inventory recorded in major producing countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.
Our average selling price for CPO (net of export tax) in 1Q13 amounted Rp6,084 per kg, or 18% lower than 1Q12. It was the third consecutive fall in quarterly performance since early last year. Palm Kernel
PK on the other hand, got its first break after making three consecutive fall in the previous quarters. Average selling price for PK in 1Q13 amounted Rp2,860 per kg, or 3% higher than fourth quarter 2012. Contribution from the two key products made up 89% of total revenue for the Company.
As a result of the 18% decline in selling price and 3% lower sales volume, CPO contributed 23% less revenue to the Company this year versus last year. For PK, even though selling price in 1Q13 plunged 31% versus 1Q12, its revenue contribution only declined 1% because sales volume for the period climbed 43%. Sampoerna Agro revenue declined 14% for these reasons. The Company booked Rp585.56 billion in revenue during 1Q13.
On a brighter note, the sale of DxP Sriwijaya climbed 9% in 1Q13 reaching Rp15.46 billion due to 4% higher selling price and 5% more sales volume. Sampoerna Agro also produced a total of 305,470 tons Fresh F uit Bu ches FFB fo the ua te ending in March 2013, or 18% higher than 1Q12. FFB output from Sumatra region estates rose 19% while Kalimantan climbed 16%, year on year.
Fundamentally, the Company managed to strengthen its seed division this year. In an effort to grasp bigger market share and meet the needs of oil palm seedlings at smallholders level, PT Binasawit Makmur, a subsidiary of the Company, launched a nursery cooperation system to develop DxP Sriwijaya seedlings in early 2013. Up till today, field execution with several experienced partners have been started in South Sumatra, Central Kalimantan and South Kalimantan numbering 500,000 DxP Sriwijaya seedlings.
