Almost Eleven is the documentation of the January 7, 1965 abduction, rape and murder of ten year-old Brenda Sue Sayers in the small town of Brawley, California. Imperial Valley's biggest crime is detailed through volumes of official records and interviews with witnesses, relatives and investigators. Serial killer Robert Eugene Pennington not only murdered Sayers, but was a suspect in killing Dorothy Minor-Hindman in Fresno and possibly fifteen other innocent victims from coast to coast including one victim attributed to the Boston Strangler. Extensive research provides the reader with details of Pennington's life before and after his encounter with Brenda.

Almost Eleven covers the kidnapping, assault and murder of ten year old Brenda Sayers in great detail. It is authentic. Glenn Crowson, the Author did an excellent job of covering suspect Pennington's life before the crime, the investigation and trial and other interesting details. I was an investigator in 1965 with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Two other Investigators and I from the Riverside Sheriff's Detective Bureau were sent to the crime scene to assist our Indio Station with the investigation. I testified at the trial regarding evidence I found at the crime scene. This book is worth a read. Well done Mr. Crowson. cb

On the day she disappeared, late in the afternoon, Brenda came by our house to ask if my older sister could go roller skating with her at the school. She showed my mother her new skates and mentioned that they were a birthday gift. My mother who was in the middle of cooking dinner did not allow my sister to go because it was starting to get dark and the school sidewalk was a far distance from our home. She advised Brenda she should not go either .
Later that evening when her siblings came knocking at our door asking if we had seen her, my mother says she felt weak, and immediately had a sick feeling that this would not end well. Sadly it didn't.
We were among the many little girls who attended her funeral.
I was a young girl when this happened but still remember my parents talking about it and the fear surrounding our small town. Changed Brawley forever. The book is well written and documented. Prayers to the Sayers family.
